Powers down between activity too soon. Spools up MUCH slower than WD 4TB which it is replacing.

Does what I expected but slower than I ever imagined. There should be more instructions about how to properly use this item.

I loaded the drive with about 7 tb of data over the first week and then all of a sudden it couldn't be seen by my pc. I cringed and took it back for a replacement. 2nd drive died in 24 hours running sea gate tools on it go figure. I can't recommend this drive and it stinks there are few choices in this size and price.

I've purchased two of these. I wanted the piggyback option for other USB drives. Unfortunately, I didn't pay enough attention to the core functionality, the hard drive. In researching after the fact, this model has a terrible fail rate and apparently cannot handle any hard contact whatsoever. One drive flat out died right after I put several TBs of irreplaceable information on it. The other one is user error to an extent. My cat knocked it off my desktop, and it fell about three feet onto carpet. I certainly wouldn't have expected a short fall with soft landing to wipe out a hard drive, but it did. AVOID THIS PRODUCT!!!

    8TB On The Cheap!

Wanna save thousands of pictures, music, games and more on a single Huge Hard Drive? And on the cheap? Well look no further, this 8TB (7451.91GB / 7.27TB Available Free Space Formatted as NTFS) Will deliver that and even more! You will get x2 Extra USB 3.0 Ports to connect extra Hard Drives or other devices in it's built in USB Hub! I get speeds of about 30/70mbps, so that's fast, but not as fast as an SSD (Solid State Drive) or NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) SSD drive. Sata SSDs can do 550mbps! / Nvme (x4) can deliver upto 3500+ mbps!) Which makes those Flash Storages upto 46 Times Faster! But really, here you are mostly looking at having a TON of Storage on the Cheap side, it's very simple and easy to use this External Drive on any PC/MacBook. Just Plug & Play really. I hope one day we can afford Nvme or better SSDs at this same price & Capacity! Hahahaha "one day...." This Hard Drive It's not portable since it requires a wall power brick to function but since it's big & heavy, you won't be taking it anywhere anyways besides your home desk. I got it for $140-150 free shipping some time ago... It's a great deal and you should get it. BUT NOTE: If you are looking to use this Drive for a BACKUP Do not Buy Only One! I repeat, Do not buy only One, since hard drives (also SSDs/Micro Sd/etc.) can fail at any time, so what you have to do is get TWO or even Three to be on the safe side and backup (Clone/Copy) All your same Data to Both Drives, so you won't loose your very important Data forever! I Know it's some extra work, but trust me on this one, it's totally Worth it! And also avoid paying Very Expensive Data Recovery Companies, You WILL remember Me after you either Loose/Could of Loose your data, and will be glad you bought two or three of these drives to really Protect your Data. Even if you buy one right now and it works perfectly fine for say the next Five months, it might fail the next hour, day or month, it's all really in luck and the care you provided to your Hard Drives, so don't take your chances and get two so you at least have another REAL backup drive to protect your data. You're Welcome :) And Yes, I do Really Love this Drive and also recommend it to you and your friends (just remind everyone to get TWO or Three, not One and use both/all drives to copy the same data to all drives) I'm an experienced "Data Protector" Tech Guy and I know my way around Hard Drives and SSDs. I been backing my data since 2009! So please, Backup your data to another same drive(s). Backup Data = Save your Digital Self!

Hard drive appeared on the desktop, tried to reformat it, failed several times receiving" Not enough space on device" several times. After emails to support and trying their suggestions, drive finally failed entirely. Was not able to format or repair using Disc Utility software. Seagate offered to replace with a reconditioned one. Returned it instead.

If you like the ease of using Apple products your not going to like this hard drive. I was going to get the Apple 3TB AirPort Time Capsule but needed more storage than that.

While I am guessing my experience is atypical, but you should know that this drive failed on me within 1.5 weeks of use. I lost everything! I guess the only good thing is that it died within the return window and I was able to return it without an issue.

When I plugged it for first time, there are some stranger sound, then Windows can not detect drive. I unplugged and plugged several times, finally Windows detected it. Everytime I copied hundred TB or above, it will be report malfunction. I tried unplugged and plugged several times so that Windows can detected it. But today, It cannot detect after reporting malfuntion. I don't know how to get the replacement, so I plan to return it.

I have ordered this hard drive to hold and store all my Xbox games over 85 plus games have been downloaded and stored since I bought it (last week). No noise, no resets and no issues form this device at all. Great for storing or backing up all you cloud based information. I am a CCNA Certified tech and live in the world of computers everyday. But this if you want no issues when it comes to storage and space.

After being with Western Digital for 10+ years, I gave this Seagate a try. Well, I should have known that for the price and the storage size, I'd be getting a subpar hard drive. Just not the speed nor the conveniences I'm used to with WD.

Bought this item and in less than a month it is completely dead. Already spoke to the techs and it is a complete drive failure. Now I have to pay them to retrieve my own data!
