You just install, choose a time and which folders to back up, and make sure to leave your computer on for backup time whenever you set it, whether that's daily, monthly, or just whenever you need it. Bear in mind, the archived files are not immediately accessible on the hard drive itself--you need to use the software to unpack (possibly unencrypt?) the backed up files.

This one did not. I was mainly interested in making a mirror image of the hard drive to include programs and data. I was unable to find that option even in the online information for this item. We aren't all computer geeks that can navagate gadgets instinctively. If I wanted something for long term, I'd spend a bit more and get the solid state hard drive.
