Buy something else, especially for new MacBook Pro

I purchased this Hard Drive to use with my new MacBook Pro, I used the Apple USB-C to USB adapter. First I used the HD to transfer data from my old PC to my new MacBook. The HD made a strange squealing noise. I exchanged the HD. The 2nd HD worked well, for a few hours. I formatted it for Time Machine, it appeared to complete the back up, then was hung up on the encryption, then just died. I couldn't get the MacBook to recognize it. Neither could Geek Squad get any computer to recognize it. I've moved on to a different HD.

I have been using Seagate for years. Never had any problems of any kind whatsoever. Have used 1, 2, and 4 TB portable hard drives. Would highly recommend them to anyone. Great buy for the price.

Very disappointed with this purchase. Got it just prior to my husband leaving for a deployment to load movies for him to watch while he's gone. Got everything loaded and ready and it worked fine when he left. Stop working this past Monday which is just a few weeks after purchase. Went completely kaput. Very bummed that a product of this caliber couldn't last a few weeks. He'll be deployed for another two months at least and has nothing remotely entertaining available to him anymore.

    Amazing Buy

This drive all around deserves the 5 star review. I have only had this for a few days and already it is obviously a winner. First let me start off with the price. With the sale price being 70$ this is an unbeatable deal for 1TB of this quality. This drive is super fast and plenty spacious. I especially recommend this if you have a Mac as it plays very nicely with Time Machine. Being in music and YouTube I need a lot of space that has a good read speed as I will playing music at gigs directly from this drive, and let me say that this preforms with plenty of speed for me. After my testing this is truly an amazing PORTABLE drive.

I really wish I had read more reviews over Seagate, unfortunately I did not and that caused me to lose valuable images from my drive. I understand that everything can fail as all is made by man, but in this case it's just ridiculous the amount of feedback I received from forums over the failure rate. I had this product for not even ONE WEEK and it failed me. I recommend not to invest in this brand, and if you're looking for external memory, lean towards WD.

I was looking for an external hard drive with which to store my massive CD collection on, so I would be able to play all my music through iTunes without having to eat up my computer's hard drive, but since I was only using it for music I really didn't want to spend a fortune. After having owned the Seagate 1TB for about a week now, I've already copied well over 100GB of music to it, and it's still working like a champ! Light weight, compact, affordable, fast download speed, you really won't find a better external hard drive for the price. I would highly recommend for anyone looking to clear up some space on your computer. Also, if you're a mac user (like myself) don't be put off by the fact that it doesn't include Thunderbolt/Firewire because the USB 3.0 on this thing is FAST!

Very disappointed in this portable HD. It states that it is 2.0 and 3.0 however it does not read on my laptop at all. Unfortunately, I did not open it until after the return policy had expired with Best Buy so I've lost money and my HD because it does work. Do not buy this unless you have a computer that has 3.0 drivers loaded on it, you have been warned.

I trusted this hard drive for downloading my photos I took during my once in a life time trip to Egypt.. This 1T Seagate crashed thus is costing me large amounts of money to hopefully retrieve my files. It was only 3 weeks old when it crashed. Mechanical failure! Major failure for me.

Completely stopped working after falling off my couch onto the carpeted floor. There wasn't even a big impact, just a light fall to the ground and now it's completely useless with more than 20 gigs of all my personal pictures stored on it. Would recommend any other brand.

Purchased the Seagate portable hard drive to store all my photos and it is so light, yet sturdy and reliable. I can travel with it and it does not take up much space in my bag. The file transfer is fast, especially uploading RAW photo files from my camera. I highly recommend this product for people who are looking for a backup that is compatible for MAC and Windows

The hard drive was sent out to the recovery department who called me and said it would cost $1,500 to retrieve my files I then had them send it back to me I am not happy with this at all $1,500 is a lot of money to retrieve files next I'm going to call the company to see if they will replace the hard drive because Best Buy would not.

    Excellent portable drive overall.

I decided to go with this portable drive because it was slim, portable, and the newest drive out which now included mobile backup as clearly listed on the box and on Seagate's website. However, I've had the drive for about a week and I still can't figure out how to backup my iOS device. The website clearly states that iOS devices are supported and that all there is to do is download the "Seagate Mobile Backup" app which doesn't even exist in the Apple store. This drive comes with a very convenient dashboard software which is great and easy to backup PC files, but it doesn't give any instructions or options for mobile backup. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the drive's performance. In the meanwhile, I'll backup my iPhone's photos manually which is not a big deal. Maybe Seagate will update its dashboard soon to include the mobile capabilities. Highly recommended drive to store your social network photos and personal files. Hopefully "Instagram" becomes a supported social network backup. If anybody figures it out, please respond to the review. Thank you, -Diana
