I don’t really buy from Best Buy but saw this item and decided to buy it for my boyfriend for Christmas. We tried it on a ps4 and it didn’t work. I tried it on my ps4 and it didn’t work. I sold it thinking it might be strictly for a chrome book but it didn’t work for them either and now I look like a bad seller and I can’t return the item anymore and I’m highly disappointed.

Do not let the name fool you. This drive will work with both a Mac and Windows PC, not just a Chromebook. Seagate has always been my favorite hard drive manufacturer for over twenty years and this mobile drive is just the latest that reaffirms my love of the company and the drives it produces. The build quality is above average for a drive at this price point and the USB 3.0 connectivity means you'll get the best data transfer rates for a 5400 RPM traditional hard drive. The out of the box experience is what one would expect in that you unbox it, plug it into your computer (a Macbook Pro in my case) and you're up and ready to transfer files or use as a dedicated backup solution. I'm using this for Time Machine backups which did require a reformat that was very quick. I just make sure to connect it at night when I'm done with my computer so that when I'm up the next morning I'm backed up. The portability factor comes into play here as I travel for work frequently which means I can throw this baby in my backpack with my Mac and not have to worry about making sure any work files are backed up locally. Overall I'm very pleased with this drive and have no problem recommending it to others.

This Seagate drive is fast and compact, has a solid build quality, and works perfectly with windows, chrome os and android devices. Out of the box it comes with a provided usb cable, the drive, and a bit of documentation. Performing a read/write test posts speeds upwards of 100MBps, but in practice your speeds will be much slower. Transferring a single large file (16GB) to and from the device yields speeds around 80MB/sec - very fast. Transferring multiple small files also yields similar speeds. A transfer of mixed large and small files from a game folder (total 2.3GB) is much less regular. Speeds will spike above 100MB/s and dip all the way down to single digits. This is on par with every other HDD I've seen, internal as well. Performance is exactly as advertised so that's a big plus. The build quality is very solid. The top of the drive has a kind of mesh look to it, maybe for cooling purposes, but I'm not sure. I don't know how durable the finish is, but only the colored bit seems like it would be really noticeable if it gets dented or dinged. The drive does warm up a bit during transfers of large files, but not hot. Basically I haven't had any issues with this. It's truly a plug and play device, as you would expect from a modern drive. If I were forced to look for a con I suppose I'd point to the usb cable. It's a well-built cable, fairly thick, but it's using Seagate's proprietary connector to connect to the drive. This is business as usual with Seagate and isn't really a problem, but if the cable is damaged you can't just grab any cable, you'll have to buy a compatible one from Seagate. I don't care for this practice in general, but I also have another Seagate drive sitting on my desk as my main backup so ... yeah. it's probably not something you have to worry about. Overall great little drive, compatible with windows, chrome os, and android, fast, good build, and it comes in a variety of colors and storage sizes. I'm impressed.

This is my first time using an external hard drive by Seagate (I owned WD portable HDs). As soon as I plugged it in, it was easily recognized by my Acer Chromebook. Dragging and dropping files (about 100 photos) from my document folder into the drive was a breeze, took less than a minute. Comparing this with the WD brand, the Seagate is more quiet when being used, I didn't notice the vibration that much. Whereas using the WD, I can easily hear the vibration. Overall, I recommend this brand as well with its ease of use, fast connectivity and large storage capacity.

This backup drive definitely proves the old adage that says, “good things come in small packages!” This little gem does a wonderful job of backing up a Chromebook or any other device as it has universal capabilities. However, I have chosen to back up my Acer Chromebook, which is my daily driver, as such I have lots of stored files, pictures, and videos on the device, which has 64 GB of storage. The device (external hard drive) is easy to use as all that is needed is to plug and play and from there your back up begins. I was amazed at how quickly it backs up data. Suffice to say, this little gem will serve me well with all of my back up needs travel needs.

WOW! Very impressed with this slim and sleek hard drive. I use it with an Acer laptop and it transfers file lightning fast. Downloaded a movie from iTunes in under 2 minutes. Lightweight (less than one pound) and compact makes it convenient to slip into your purse or pocket in your backpack. It does not have any "cushion" surrounding it so you must be careful of course. Would recommend a good shell to carry this around. There are a lot to choose from. There was not any setup required. Just plug it in and add files. Easy peasy.

Damaged after 6months of use I purchased this item to supplement my Mac SSD 128gb plugged it would not work

It's pretty simple… it's a USB 3.0 hard drive that is simple to use, very portable, speeds are respectable, and NOT an SSD. During my testing speeds were consistent running anywhere from 110-120 MB/s for read/write speeds. Not an SSD but still a decent drive for storage. Build quality is basically a thin plastic shell over a 2.5" SATA drive. It is flimsy plastic that flexes a lot so don't drop it. In the package you will get a USB 3.0 cord and drive. Everything is pretty much plug and play. Works seamlessly between PC to Chromebooks. For the price, you get a great value here for 1 TB and decent performance.

The Seagate - Mobile Drive for Chromebook 1TB Portable External Hard Drive is a light, portable drive that just works. Plug it in to your computer and start using it immediately. Transfers were fast and it is also extremely quiet. Although aimed at Chromebook users, it worked great with my Mac as well. The only (very minor) thing I would change, for this price, would be for it to use USB 3.0 on both ends of the connecting cable so you aren’t dependent on their cable. Otherwise this is a great, compact portable HD.

Just plug it into your device and it works. My Chromebook and my Windows 10 laptop and desktop PCs recognized it immediately and it was ready to use. Can't get better than that!

I can't say this is much different than any other external 2.5" drive I have used in the past, but it does look nice with its white and blue-ish exterior. The enclosure itself is pretty slim and compact, which is appreciated for travel with a chromebook or other tablet. Performance is on par with other drives I have used, though I have not run any actual speed tests since it's just a platter drive. For the price, I am definitely happy with this new Seagate drive so far.
