One would think, enough time has passed in the world of hard drives and other computer-related technologies, that manufacturers could figure out how to build a hard drive that meets or exceeds the size stated on the package.. for instance this hard drive is advertised as '500GB" but in reality, is barely over 400GB. This inaccuracy or discrepancy has been true for as long there have been hard drives, I know.. but surely someone, somewhere has said to themselves "Every hard drive we make is at best 85-90% of the advertised rating, so why not make one that's 115% of the advertised rating, so when the 10-15% is lost it actually meets the rating number..??" That's my biggest complaint with ALL hard drives, not specific to this one. This drive did exactly what I needed it to do. It replaced the factory-installed drive which was advertised as "200GB" but, at best, operated with a capacity closer to 120GB. which, by the time the OS was fully installed along with all of the updates, service packs, etc.. and a couple essential programs later.. it didn't take much for the laptop to freeze up and crash. This drive corrected that issue by allowing the installed OS and other programs a bit more breathing room. This was all it really needed. I rated the 'Installation" as "Fair" only because it's a laptop which meant a good bit of tricky disassembly and reassembly, not recommended for the novice.

I was looking for a 500GB hard drive to match my current drive. This was very close to the same and the same brand. The price was reasonable.

I have installed hundreds of Seagate hard drives (yes, I am a certified computer tech and have my own business). Solid performance and life-span.

Worked perfectly. Plugged in, reloaded and fired right up.

Reasonable price for more than enough storage for a backup hard drive. Works well with time machine for Mac.

This is a pretty standard hard drive. I needed one for the Seagate PogoPlug, and didn't realize that internal drives don't work with it, so I returned this drive before I really had a chance to stress test it. Other than that I had no complaints. Seagate is rapidly coming my go-to brand for internal drives, and even though I like the "ultra portable" idea, the extra connectors required for their external drives aren't worth the price over WD to me.

Hard drive in laptop was acting up (Slow response time) and geek squad replaced it with this hard drive. Working fine, no problems.

My computer was fixed in under one week. I have since used the online chat help with Geek Squad and they were able to solve my problem.

What can I say. I had to buy it or my pretty new ASUS would not work. So far it has worked nicely. I am not sure why my computer died but I guess luck of a portable computer.

I used to only purchase hard drives from the other main manufacturer but lately Seagate has been my favored. I by hard drives for customers and I need a product I can trust. I warranty my work I don't want to be spending time replacing failed hard drives, not only is this extra work for me but doesn't reflect well on my work. Because of this I need to make sure I purchase quality products and Seagate has that quality I need.

Drive is great so far. Headache was DELL SUPPORT!! getting drivers updated thru / with them. Not real impressed with Dell. Best Buy was great for what they could provide

It was needed to replace my laptop hard drive which died and was beyond recovery. To late to save but it keeps me going for now.

My son's hard drive stopped working in his Mac book. We replaced it with this hard drive and it works great now!! No issues.
