Great Soundbar, But A Challenge To Set Up Properly

This product is a beast in more ways than one. At 40 pounds, it’s really a two person job to lift it up any sort of shelf. While connecting the wiring is simple, the process of room calibration and getting the device’s firmware to update is not. I was (and still am) unable to connect the Ambeo Max to my home wi-fi network. That meant that I couldn’t update the device pre-use which meant that I wouldn’t be able to use the (very helpful) Sennheiser Sound Control app. Fortunately I had an option to use a run of Cat 6 cable to hard wire it into my router and that eventually solved my problems. However, getting that done involved a 90-minute call with a very knowledgeable (and patient) Sennheiser tech support person to sort out the issues. Everything worked out in the end, but I spent a couple of frustrating days getting there. That’s the only reason I’m giving the product 4 stars instead of five. This simply shouldn’t be happening with a product at this price level. As for sound, it is head and shoulders above any other soundbar based system I’ve ever heard. Out of the box it does have the characteristic Sennheiser sound signature—“warm” with a rolled-off top end. However, if that’s not to your taste, you can adjust any or all of the six presets built into the remote to something more to your liking. While device does go quite deep on bass, I found that I needed to hook up a Klipsch wired subwoofer I already owned to get a true movie theatre-like experience. With that in place, the result when playing an effect-heavy movie like “Top Gun Maverick” is pretty spectacular. The unit will reveal any defects in the audio tracks of the source material played through it. There is a big difference in sound quality between content playing in two-channel stereo and content using more modern codecs like Dolby Atmos. I’m not sure this soundbar would beat a perfectly set up five/seven/ten discrete speaker high end home theatre system, but it gives a good account with a wide soundstage and convincing separation between sound elements. If you are streaming video content from various platforms, be sure to check your settings to use the maximum possible bandwidth, otherwise the Ambeo won’t be able to perform at its highest level. Music also works well through this soundbar, although the best overall sound profile will probably be a bit different than the one for video content. Once again, customizing the “Music” preset on the remote control can address this issue. Overall, the Ambeo Max is a technological triumph—once it is correctly set up. Do your homework in advance about the steps involved and be prepared to put some time into getting the unit configured properly. It can be a frustrating process initially, but the end result is well worth the effort.

This was a replacement for a defective unit. This unit was defective as well. A return has been initiated. I'm replacing the system with Sonos.

The sound bar lacks bass. It was underwhelming. Returned and decided to buy a JBL

    Outstanding surround sound bar

I read as many reviews as I could find on this soundbar before I purchased the AMBEO Max. The AMBIO Max seemed to meet my needs (minimizing my sound system footprint to a bar and wall mounted TV). The bar comes very well packaged and is easy to set up and connect to your TV. Once calibrated, the sound is incredible and fills my family room with the Atmos surround sound tracks from our favorite movies. I recommend the subwoofer to fill in the lower end for the movie soundtracks. The sound fills the room with a sweet spot in the center of the room as you would expect for a surround system. I bit on the pricey end of the soundbar market but well worth the investment.

    Sennheiser Ambeo....Beast unleashed

There is no better sound bar out there that doesn't use separate rears. If you add a sub to this as I did (PSA XV15) you will be very happy. Setup is a breeze with the included calibration microphone. Atmos is very impressive considering this is coming from a single unit under the TV. We are very happy with the Ambeo soundbar. Price is high but nothing can touch it right now when it comes to performance

After arduous reading, and then re-reading the reviews and specs, I took the plunge and purchased. After 1 week I can honestly i am not that impressed. My thought i, it is the layout of the room, or maybe i am just used to a full 7.1.2 system. Also pay attention to the lip sync problems, Had to call the Sennheiser tech and ended up swapping out the HDMI cables for HDMI 2.1 cables, and made some minor adjustments and it took care of the lip sync. For 2500 they could have included a 2.1 HDMI. I really wanted to love this unit, but unfortunately it is being retuned. Also as a side note Sennheiser came out with a with a new unit called the PLUS, Which is significantly smaller but it has 7.1.4 and has quad core processing, for 1k less.

Known hardware defect -- no support

The sound quality of the sound bar downgraded terribly less than a year after I bought it in December 2019. The voices are inaudible when Ambeo is turned on, and this is a known hardware defect. Sennheiser does not handle this product anymore, Sunnova does, and the support is terrible. The $2500 unit just sits on the wall, unusable. After I bought it, we dealt with Covid, I've had two kids and a bout with cancer, so I am just now trying to get something resolved. There's no other way to contact support than through email, and they ignore their emails -- never reply back. It was a great unit when it worked, but due to known hardware defects and lack of support -- it gets one star. Unacceptable for the second most expensive soundbar on the market.

    Amazing sound while it worked.

I want to love it and truly did when it worked properly. Mine was barely used in our extra room and it would overheat, freeze up and needed a hard reset. The center channel one day stopped amplifying the tweeter (which I'd determined was on the amp/pre-amp side as the tweeter tested fine after disassembly). I honestly decided to give it away to someone else to use as parts as it's not worth the trouble and cost to repair something of such lousy quality/reliability. If I'd abused it that would at least make sense, but my unit was babied and barely turned on. I don't recommend it whatsoever. (I probably only ever watched 5 movies on it while it worked! I'd only expect such poor quality from a $100 soundbar from Wal-Mart, not a $2,500 Sennheiser.)

This is a powerful speaker but it cut out on and off. It just goes mute for few seconds every 5minutes or so. I told my husband to return it but because it is a very heavy speaker, it's hard to return. We bought this at $2499 and added 4years geek squad coverage, spending over $2800 in total.

Garbage, please don’t waste your time or money! Software/computer chip is terrible. Sound bar worked maybe 40-50 times maybe 100hours on it. All of a sudden the audio only plays out of aftermarket subwoofer channel… Red light out of the back right side of the soundbar indicating something is wrong. Cannot get a hold of customer service to save your life. Awful. Bad business.
