How this childish film with average actors playing sub average roles; received above average reviews; is beyond understanding. Don't buy the 4k disk. Don't buy the video.

Having never seen it before I took a chance when it was released in 4k with the addition of an upgraded audio. Sounded pretty dang good.

Sy-Fy that’s really slow. Not a Good story. Lots of action.

Serenity continues the magic of the original Firefly series, helping to bring some closure to a great series that ended way too soon. Joss Whedon had a very special show, taking an everyday man and his eclectric crew, just trying to make a living on the frontier of space, while the corporate elite try to consume and control everything. No social commentary here. Presented in 4K, Serenity has never looked better. This is an upscale from a 2K master according to sources, which had me originally wonder if it would be worth re-buying. At it's current price (around $18) it is. A definite must for fans of the original series. There's a nice increase in detail and clarity while maintaining some grain and the look of film. The lettering and detail on the Serenity pops, textures on clothes are clearer, along with facial details. Colors look stronger too. I tried the included 1080p blu ray afterwards (which always looked strong), to compare, and it looks lighter and more washed out. A few of the special effects suffer slightly from the increase in resolution (the scene where the Serenity lands in an open field or the Rever ship chasing it looks more fake), and in one or two scenes faces looked a little shinier than normal, but that might be me nitpicking. This is a great buy at this price, and Serenity won't look any better unless they ever do a full 4K or higher scan from the original 35mm prints. Watching this again made me want more Firefly and wonder why this amazing series had such a short run. Serenity in 4K is the way to go!

The Film "Serenity" serves as a cliffhanger-ending to the Cult-Hit TV Series "Firefly". "Firefly" aired on the FOX network between the years 2002 and 2003. FOX aired the episodes out of order (Wich caused the series to recieve poor ratings.) and doomed the phenominal series right out the gate. Regardless, I was a dedicated viewer all through its run. Then FOX released the Series in a DVD boxed set, and BAM! it brought in a lot of revenue. Universal stepped in and treated the fans (and listened to thier pleading) to something spectacular. "Serenity" works just fine as a stand-alone Sci-Fi film. It's got a great Story, wonderful characters, and is full of action. For fans of the show, "Serenity" is something more, an experience. "Serenity" is our last outing with the wonderful crew, and boy does it deliver.

The show the film is based on was unfortunately cancelled after not being given a real chance. The shows were aired as they were produced rather than in order, the production schedule demanded for the show left Joss Whedon little time to create elaborate environments, which only appear in a handful of the only season made. The show was often preempted for sporting events and left with no real conclusion when it was cancelled. This film stands on its own right and is fairly easy to follow, however, you get a much different perspective if you watch the show as well. The film is well done and is an awesome sci fi film. The production and adventure is on a much grander scale so it doesn't disappoint. Some sci fi movies based on a show end up being just long episodes, with some reruns of a tv show with greater worth than the film. This movie allows for an incredible conclusion to the story, or if you see this first, an incredible start. That's how i got into it. I saw the film, i got hooked, and i bought the series, also available here. Check it out, its a good buy.

Yes, I've read a poem. Try not to faint." Humanity has made it's way to another solar system, escaping the troubles of the old. They terraformed a massive number of planets and moons, and the massive and sterile Alliance government has brought civilization to all. Captain Mal Reynolds of the Firefly class freighter Serenity is not a fan. His ragtag crew keep the ship running long enough to get into all manner of trouble with the Alliance, and he harbors a teenage girl that is the Alliance's most wanted, simply because she knows their secrets. She's the albatross, and for reasons even he doesn't always understand, Mal is determined to keep her safe as the Operative of the Alliance remains true to his word; raining destruction and death all around them. Easily the best Science Fiction feature ever. Definitely the most under-rated. This film has no weak points, no regrets. It's an all around hit that never got it's due.

I grew up with the idea that in the future space travel was going to be warp drives, worm holes, aliens and perfectly uniformed crews. This film is a departure from what we have come to expect from SciFi movies. Set about 500 years in the future, the story is about a young girl who's mind has been used in experiments by the Alliance (a Big Brother type government) before being rescued by her brother. They become passengers aboard Serenity, and as a result have placed the crew in danger as the Alliance wants this girl back at any cost. When the dark secret is revealed as to what the Alliance has been up to and why, the crew of this tiny ship takes on a mission to put a stop to their plans. The acting is superb, lots of action, great one liners, and plenty of humor thrown in to keep it from being too dark. This is a movie I could watch time and again. Joss Wheden has created a gem that will endure as one of the best written, directed and acted SciFi films of all time. Buy this for yourself and your friends, and who knows...there could be a sequel!

This collector's edition is a must have! If you are a fan of Firefly and loved the cast you will not be disappointed. If you've never seen either, you'll fall in love with the cast and story line. The bonus features are great and the outtakes are priceless. The series was great and I was so mad when it was cut...but they sure came back with a bang...HAHA!! It was nice to see others felt the same way about the cancellation and were willing to do something about it. The series did not get its chance to shine at all, but some of us realized it had something special. The Serenity movie is fabulous, especially wrapped up with the extras in the Collector's edition. I own the Firefly series, Serenity, and this edition. If you are looking for characters you can related to, humor, sarcasm, action & adventure...oh, and a hot captain - THIS IS THE MOVIE FOR YOU!!

This movie was awesome, i never got the chance to see it in theaters, the theatrical run was short lived sad to say. I saw the movie on tv, and i loved it. I later learned that it had a tv series behind it. The writing is so well done you wouldn't notice at first. I got a chance to borrow the series from a friend and i fell even more in love with this franchise, if that were possible. The series is also a good choice and available at best buy, conveniently, which is where i later picked up my own copy. The effects and story are excellent. By all means enjoy this future sci fi western... thing... seriously, this is an excellent choice for any action or sci fi fan. That reminds me, the fight and battle scenes were excellent too.

One of the worse things in recent TV history has been the cancellation of Firefly. It was quite possibly one of the most promising shows. Then Serenity comes along and lifts our hopes that the story will continue. Again, this was a incredible movie (even for people who haven't seen the show). So to all those big people out there in Hollywood making the decisions, help continue this series. If you give it a chance instead of dumping it in a closet like you have been, I'm sure it will make you lots of money. To everyone else, buy this DVD and show them that we like engaging, intelligent, action, sci-fi, drama. Buy it now.

The movie concludes the ongoing adventures started in the TV series, "Firefly." The series is quirky and wildly fun, with just a hint of something greater. This movie explodes the series into a must-have, as in you must-have this movie, and you must-have the tv series dvd. The series dvd is just one box, about 14 episodes. Yeah, so it has to be something to generate such a spark. The actors are great, the action is not-so-typical and it seems more like a western-in-space than your usual si-fi epic.

Mal, River, Wash, Zoe, Book, Inara, Jane, and River... and let's not forget Serenity herself. A fantastic conclusion to a series that was cut short and unfinished. Wonderful and odd plot twists, evil yet charming villains, romance coupled with complete frustration. Serenity is filled with opposing forces that are in a constant state of flux. An absolute must for any Firefly fanatic.

After recently discovering the FIrefly series, I was excited to learn about Serenity. For a show that really should have been extended for more seasons, I was dissappointed to learn that the Firefly universe was gone. Serenity was Whedon's answer; it was his wrap up. I don't know that I have ever seen television show converted to the big screen so effectively. The movie was tremendous, it answered questions, and was able to do things that wouldn't have flown on the tv show. Loved this movie and it was a steal at Best Buy's price.

I completely loved this movie in every way. It's based off the TV show Firefly. While you need not watch the show before the movie, it still is a great idea. You really get connected with the characters. I drove to Chicago from VA just to see this movie on it's very first showing. Joss Whedon is amazing and so is this movie. If you like SciFi at all you will not be disappointed.
