It’s not nearly as good as the show. But has some nice moments.

All of the excellent reviews of the movie and the show are true! I'm a late-20s girl who loves watching American Idol, Laguna Beach, Dancing With the Stars, etc. but Firefly is my favorite show ever! It's that good. If you watch the movie without watching the show first (which is what I did), you'll be like, "That was a pretty good movie". If you watch the show first and then watch the movie, you'll be like "WOW!!! Awesome!!!" If you watch the very first episode on the DVD box set (it's a two-part episode), you will be hooked. At least give it a try. =)

A ludicrous, incoherent, joyless, formulaic movie. It is not content merely to defy laws of physics; it defies logic. Credulity is strained, snapped, blasted, melted, and vaporized. The only reason for two stars instead of one is that it has pretty people, pretty pictures in 4K, good use of surround sound, and one interesting character (The Operative, played by the extraordinary Chiwetel Ejiofor). If you want a good sci-fi, outer-space, or space-opera movie, you'd be far better off with 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Matrix, Interstellar, Inception, Contact, and numerous others. Even Star Wars with Jar Jar Binks.

It's sad that this movie had to get made.... sad that the show Firefly was cancelled so quickly and that its creator had to settle for finishing off his vision in a 2 hour theatrical finale instead of weaving a rich storyline throughout the seasons. See this movie, but FIRST see Firefly, the TV series that started it all. You will fall in love with it, trust me. Without watching the TV series first, the movie will be only a fraction as fun, and anyway, if the movie were an episode of the TV series, it wouldn't even be the best one.

This movie is a masterpiece. If firefly never makes a return it will be a travesty to the entire film industry. Everyone needs to experience firefly and serenity. Tell all your friends. Let's get an army of browncoats to bring it back! You can't take the sky from us!

I walked into this movie having never heard of the TV show and just a vague recommendation from a friend about it. Now I would have to say that this is one of my favorite movies that I own. The way I describe this movie to friends is its similar to what a movie about the adventures of Han Solo would have been like. Great characters that are given lots of personality in the short span of a movie. About the only thing I found to be better lately in this genre is the TV show it was based on.

Not really, but I can't think of a different review title and the example title just seemed to work in a pinch. Based on the canceled TV show "Firefly", Serenity carries on Joss Whedon's legacy of space westerns and does an admirable job. The unfortunate deaths of a few characters subtract from the enjoyment of the film, but such is life. Unfortunate deaths. It's a good movie and I think people can enjoy it even if they haven't seen the show.

Serenity is a movie made specifically for fans of the cancelled Firefly television series. Serenity is a spectacular roller coaster ride, providing the viewer with plenty of excitement, twists, turns, and heart wrenching moments. Serenity is a must have for any sci fi fan.

By itself, Serenity is a great sci-fi movie, great special effects, with a unique story and interesting characters. If you like sci-fi, and you value a honest to goodness good film...Serenity is for you. I would highly recommend watching Firefly first, the TV show Serenity is based on. This will help you understand and appreciate the movie on a different level. Regardless. Serenity is a great movie.

This movie was done to as a close out for all of the fans of Firefly (which if you ask me should never been taken off...but w/e). While it is true that if you watch the series the movie will be deeper, that does not mean that you need to watch the series before the movie. The movie is amazing in it's own, and I suggest that you try it out. Heck, if you like it enough, you can get the series.......

I'm not sure how it hold up as a standalone movie( I imagine it would feel a bit slow) but it is the best possible wrapup to an awesome series that was tragically cut short.

I rate the movie a solid 5 stars. The series Firefly I would give 6 out of 5 stars if possible. The new 2017 4K release with DVD and Digital Copy falls short because it is NOT U/V UltraViolet Digital. More and more recent releases are going away from the U/V licensing due to cost savings. Sadly this release is one of them. If you want the freedom to use digital on many providers, as U/V has provided, buy an older release with U/V. With this release I could only choose between Fandango or iTunes. I picked Fandango needing to create a new account. Linked my U/V account to it. Then verified the 4K Serenity release shows a Digital licence that is NOT UltraViolet so I can only watch it through Fandango. I really do not want to install and configure yet another stupid streaming app on all my devices just for one movie, even for one that is as GREAT as Serenity, so I doubt I will ever watch this movie on any streaming device unless I buy an older release again that has an UltraViolet license.

I saw this film in theaters and was blown away. Everything from the awesome fight scenes to the great humor fits perfectly because of Joss Whedons writing. This is my first voyage into any of his work and I was immediately interested in the series. A must see for anyone.

Joss Whedon and his underdog legion of Browncoats did it! Not only is this movie incredible but the story of its coming about is even more so. I encourage any Sci-Fi or drama fan to check it out and then follow the timeline backwards to see where Serenity came from. It's well-worth the trip and a good heart-wrenching story to boot.

It is great for people who enjoyed the tv show firefly, but if you have never watched firefly you will still enjoy this movie

This show was cancelled way too soon. This show is nothing like you've ever seen. This family of outcasts are people you can relate to. Buy the complete series "Firefly" and get this also. This show is that good! The features on this new release lets you into the world of the crew of Serenity, walk where they walked...Awesome!!!

I LOVED this series - and well - the movie is a great extension of that. Whedon does a great job at making this a great standalone movie. They plot is the same - and the villain is remarkable. "The Operative" and Mal are polar opposites in nearly every way. I own the DVD and the Blu-Ray is simply Gorgeous.

Firefly was a great show that was sadly cancelled before the cast, crew and writers really go it off the ground. I was grateful to the studio for allowing them to come together once more and find the heart of the show with this film. They truly delivered on all the thing that made Firefly great with this film

I guess I'm like most of the other critics on here that didn't see the TV series, but just like everyone else I feel the same way this is a great movie. I got on DVD and I will still watch it if it's on cable still. Yeah, I like it that much. The fight scenes are on point, and dare I say, "Greatness."

This movie is a great way to wrap up a show that should still be on TV. Firefly was a great show. It was better that a lot of the junk that is still on TV now. My advice is to watch the Firefly TV shows first and then the movie so you know who the characters are, plus the show is excellent to boot.
