Zhang Yimou makes visually stunning movies but they are NOT action packed. If your martial arts tastes run more toward Jackie Chan, this is not the movie for you.

This is a awesome flick the action is good but the story is better.

The trailer looked good and there was reference to 'Hero' and 'House of Flying Daggers', so I don't think it live up to the expectation of those other films.

This is a slow movie, but good story line and amazing visuals! Mostly black and white scenes and for movie that you think might have lots of tiger dragon type fight scenes, the few it has are well choreagraphed and beautifully detailed. Just great cinematography, especially with a good high end tv to see it in. Great that it has original language with subtitles or you can see it in english dialogue.

really glad I picked this up. everything looks better in 4K.

This movie is very entertaining. There is a limited amount of color in its palate but it is hauntingly beautiful. Lots of blacks and greys with some flesh tones and red for blood. I watched it in mandarin with subtitles to get the Atmos soundtrack and it is very immersive. The dialogue is well paced for subtitles. Definitely a slow burn but I enjoyed it. Plan to watch the version dubbed in English soon but is is just a Dolby mix.
