    Shark Navigator Excellent For Carpets/Pets!

I have had a Dyson for 4 years and have never been impressed with it's inability to get deep into the carpet and pick-up dog hair, though it is good at getting the roller brush constantly bound-up. The Shark was EXCELLENT at cleaning the carpets...I was amazed! It came with 3 or 4 attachments...Dyson has one. The Dyson excelled at one thing...being able to use the telescoping handle to clean without bending over. The Shark has plenty of hose, but nowhere near a long enough wand/handle to not have to bend to use it on the floor. I was able to get the Shark on major sale and use some BB certificates. I paid under $115 out the door. Try getting any type of Dyson for that price...even one that doesn't work!

I wrote a review back after getting this - but Best Buy wants me to write another one (they've sent an email reminder several times). So here it goes... :) Needed a new vacuum - did quite a bit of digging online for the best option for what I wanted. Read reviews for several (on BestBuy.com and a few other retail locations and comparison sites). Went into the store this morning and purchased this one. It has done a great job so far - I am very pleased with it. (I am actually kinda embarrassed at how well it has done... because I had no idea there was that much dust and such in my carpet!) I do see the points of a few reviewers about the hose being in a kinda akward position - but it's nothing that I can't live with - and not being able to put all of the attachments on the vacuum - the pet hair extension doesn't have a space to attach to the machine (though given that the attachments kept falling off my last one that isn't an issue to me). Originally I wrote this part also - "I will update this review if I find any issues - But after vacuuming two bedrooms, the hallway and part of the dining room - I am very excited about this one!" After six weeks of using, I gotta say I am impressed with how well it picks up. I have not used it to vacuum hard floors yet - but I have used the tools to get in the corners of the kitchen - and that's been great. :)

Not a bad vacuum for the price

I bought this as a fill in while my Dyson was being repaired. It performed admirably. I like how easy it is to use this vacuum. The one area of concern I had was the power cord was too short, so I had to unplug it from room to room. It also lacked attachments.

The cord is too thin and knots easily.

Overall this is a very good vacuum for the price. It serves well in my small apartment. However, it does not have all the attachments I like included, especially the one that gets into corners and narrow spots.

Vacuum works as indicated. I wish it was more compact and more attachments included. Need to clean radiators and need to purchase an additional attachment to do this.

    Great Vacuum for the Price

I have owned the vacuum for a few months now and it has exceeded my expectations. As soon as I bought it I swept a room with my old vacuum and followed up with the Shark. I was expecting to find very little and was surprised by the amount of dirt/dog hair my other vacuum was missing. The Shark is very easy to empty and clean. Also it is quiet compared to other vacuums I have owned. My only concerns are the quality of the vacuum, the majority of the vacuum is plastic and feels cheap. I haven't had any part failures, yet. But the front is scratched in several places, and I've made a point to take good care of it. Also the vacuum comes with attachments that do not stay on the unit itself. So you need to keep a bag (provided) with attachments available as well.

    Not worth the money

It is a great vacuum but it has serious design flaws. If you have all carpeting by all means, buy it, you'll love it. But if you have mostly hardwood floors forget it, buy something else. I have 3 cats and 1 dog. I have an Oreck that I love but the Oreck does not have a hose and attachments for cleaning furniture. Nor does it have good edge cleaning. If it did it would be the perfect vacuum. I have to drag out two vacs just to clean the house. So I saw the ad for the Shark Navigator and was pretty impressed. I bought it and set it up. At first I was impressed with it....til I got to the pet hair on hardwood floors. Design flaw number 1. They put the HEPA filter at the very bottom of the vacuum in the front of the vacuum! DUH! How stupid. The pet hair blew away from the vac and went under the couch as if I had a fan in front of the vac. After pulling the couch out so I could get all the hair, the darn HEPA filter blew the hair into the air as I approached the wall. Now not only do I have hair still on the floor but it is flying around the room landing on all the furniture. Okay so now I have to get out the darn duster too. Design flaw number 2. Throw rugs get caught up in the brush roller way too easy no matter what size rug or how heavy or lightweight the rug is. So forget about cleaning those with this vac. More time wasted by having to either shake the rugs out or getting my trusty Oreck to do the job. Design flaw number 3. You will be emptying the dust cup several times if you have pets. It fills up fast because it is so tiny. It looks big but their design for "no loss of suction" is to have a lot of air space between the cyclonic thingie and the collection cup. Also the vacuum sure seems heavier than 14.7 pounds. You won't be lugging it up and down stairs. Design flaw number 4. Not all attachments fit on the vac. So you either have them dangling around in the bag they provide for this purpose or dig them out of the closet everytime you need them. Design flaw number 5 The handheld power brush is big and bulky. You will not be deep cleaning fruniture with that! It is great for stairs (but not the riser) and the topside of furniture but forget about getting in between cushions with it! Also if you have carpel tunnel you might as well throw it out because it is too bulky and heavy to hang on to.

i don't really like this vacuum

I had high hopes for this vacuum, but it is not as great as expected. The bottom portion (the push part) won't snap in place so everytime I pick up the vacuum, it falls off. The attachments are weird. Why are they so thin? They could have been rounder I think. The cannister is super small and I have to empty it all the time. The vaccum is quite heavy as well. And it doesn't sit nicely when I have to use an attachment.
