    Large Microwave

Tested the SHARP Family-Size Microwave Oven. First the capacity size is huge on our counter top. We were excited. What makes this microwave nice is that it has Inverter Technology so that when cooking it distributes the heat evenly. I heated up tea in the microwave first and it came out very well. Only had to use the beverage button once. Sometimes when making teas, I have to reset the temperature, not when using this appliance. I like that the microwave has Sensor Cook technology when it comes to heating and reheating items. Tested this out when heating up veggies, and previous dinner from the night before. Heated very good. When cooking the popcorn, it did not overcook. That was nice. You are able to select the size of the popcorn and it cooks accurately. We cooked eggs in the microwave, meatballs, and pasta noodles. You are also able to defrost items in the microwave. Overall seems to work very well. Will update review if I notice anything else. Pros: Large Can cook big meals Cooks fast Like that it has preset buttons Can cook large meals Cons: So far none as of yet.

Large and Powerful. Controls take getting used to

On its own, the Sharp microwave looks good, functions as you might expect, is large at 2.2 cubic feet, has a nice tempered glass turntable, and is nicely lit. First, it's a 1200 watt microwave. It has inverter technology so that it cooks with energy efficiency while still delivering hot food. This Sharp model microwave has several food type buttons that help you cater the microwave functions to your desires. It has 6 Sensor Cook buttons for things like, Potato, Beverage, Veggie, Frozen Entrée, Popcorn and Sensor Reheat. It has 3 Auto Defrost buttons for Meat, Poultry and Fish and a Time Defrost button for whatever isn't caught by the above. A Melt/Soften function to handle things like chocolate, butter, or cheese. Express Cook buttons for when you just want to cook for 1-6 minutes by just pressing a single button. And a Kitchen timer for convenience. The microwave is large at 2.2 cubic feet. It has a large tempered glass turntable. At this size you can fit a 9x13 casserole dish easily. The inside is gray colored and I hope that will hide food splatters when they happen. The light inside is decently bright and the display is well lit with white LEDs. My previous microwave had a blue display and was dimly lit so I would have to cup my hand around the numbers to see how much time was left. I'm coming from a Panasonic brand microwave to this Sharp microwave and there are a few things that will take some getting used to. First, is the touchpad input, which on one hand makes for easy cleanup, but I still prefer some type of low profile physical buttons. Second is the Express Cook buttons. The 1-6 buttons correspond to one touch minute increments. So if you want to cook your dish for 5 minutes, you just tap the 5 button and it goes for 5 minutes. You don't even have to hit start. If you want to go for 5 and a half minutes? Hit the 5 button and it goes and you can tap the start button to add 30 more seconds. While this is great, it throws me off because I often times want to direct the microwave for a specific time. On my old one, I just enter the time and hit the start button. On this Sharp unit, I have to remember to hit the Time Cook button first before adding the time, otherwise I'm likely to start the microwave up with the Express time. On the other hand, I think the Start/+30 Seconds button will be my most used button. To add to that, the Power Level button cannot be used in conjunction with the Express Cook Buttons. It can only be used in the Time Cook mode. So if you want to cook something for 2 minutes at 30% power, you have to hit the following buttons, Time Cook, 2, 0, 0, Power Level, 3, Start. My old microwave had an interesting defrost feature. If I had 3 lbs of beef to defrost, I would just hit the defrost, 3, 0 and start. This would start a set time based on the weight entered. But this Sharp microwave has only 16, 24, 32, and 40 ounce selections under the Meat category which are accessible when you tap the Meat button repeatedly. If you want to do more, you have to enter your specific amount of time using the Time Defrost button. But then you need to be able to convert weight to time. The next thing is something that is specific to my situation. I have a 80's kitchen setup with a shelf that I think was supposed to hold a television. It can hold my old 2.2 cubic foot microwave. But the new Sharp microwave needs about 1/2" more shelf depth before I'm comfortable with the microwave there. So I would need to make room for this Sharp microwave on my countertop. I am a bit surprised that this Sharp microwave is a decent amount quieter than my old one. Overall, I like the size of this Sharp microwave, the looks and bright display, but I would prefer the overall user interface of my old microwave. It will take some getting used to, but if given a chance, I would probably give up the Express Cook buttons for getting rid of the Time Cook button requirement for specific cook times and easy power level choice.

A very good microwave, although it would be greatly improved by back-lighting of its control panel. I have to use a flashlight to read the touch buttons. I wanted to replace my dying 2.2 cu.ft. Panasonic with its equivalent, costing about $70 more than this Sharp, but because my microwave sits in a waist-high space, I was concerned for my back in lifting the Panasonic's 43 pounds. The Sharp is lighter.

Just in time to replace our old wore out Microwave

We've been needing a new microwave for quite awhile now. The old one still does its job, but was having old age issues. So the Sharp 2.2 stainless microwave is exactly what we needed. We wanted something a bit bigger and this one is that and then some. There is plenty of room to cook plenty. No more one thing at a timing that the old smaller one required! In the box you get the 2.2 Stainless microwave, roller guide, instructions, and the glass turn table. Theres not much “set up” for a microwave other than setting the clock, etc. so that was a breeze. I did have to clear a bit more counter space to make room for this larger one, but losing a bit of counter space to get so much more cooking space was well worth it. And the stainless build has a touch of class and easily fits in with our other appliances. The cooking seems to be a lot faster than the previous one as well with 1200 watts of power. So this took some getting use to. The old times we use to use for certain things like heating up next day pizza was almost twice as fast which is great. It also has a very nice auto defrost feature which takes the guesswork out of timing a defrost. It also has several presets for the normal items such as popcorn, frozen meals, and more. And something I hadnt even thought of on the previous one is that the door shuts a lot easier. I use to have to really slam the other one to get it to seal enough to start cooking. But the door on this seems so much more well made. So we have found our new main microwave for years to come. It has all the features I care about, and more. Fast cooking, and tons of cooking space. Very happy with my Sharp microwave.

Packed With Features; Intuitive to Use

This microwave has a lot of useful features for an active family kitchen. Multi-Stage cooking, sensor cooking (for popular items), auto defrost, and melt/softening are just some of the useful features for those that use their microwave for more than just reheating last night’s leftovers. The unit is attractive, with stainless steel accents, a black case, and black glass. The digital display is bright and large enough to read from across the room. The inside is a charcoal gray, which prevents the unit from showing every bit of splatter from heating. The lights inside of the unit are bright LEDs, which provide great visibility of the inside contents. Overall, this microwave was easy to set up. Setting clock was intuitive. However, be aware that the depth of the unit (nearly 20 inches plus additional depth for the power cord) leaves very little counter space directly in front of the unit. This can make it difficult to remove very hot dishes from the microwave and set them quickly on the counter. We placed the microwave oblique in a corner so we have more room in front of it. This was not a big deal for us since that is where we had the unit we replaced. Heating in the unit was very fast and even—expected because of the power output. The power level can be set independently for each heating event, or a “multi-stage” program can be used with varying power outputs. Programming the microwave for these tasks is intuitive and quick to master. We thought it was innovative for the unit to have “memory” settings for frequently used one- or two-stage programs. We don’t use the sensor cooking that often, but it is available for popular items like potatoes, vegetables, frozen entrees, and (of course) popcorn. We tried it for some frozen vegetables and the results were good—so we will try some of the other presets and see if they work just as well, as the need arises. The melt/soften function was the one function we found a bit confusing at first. There is a large difference between melting and softening, but there are only four settings for this function—butter (1), chocolate (2), ice cream (3) and cheese (4)—and each setting is for a specific weight of that item. It turns out that the first weight in the table is for melting and the second weight is for softening. For butter, I would have preferred the units in “sticks” instead of weight. And clarification on “cheese” as either “cream cheese” or “block cheese” would also be helpful. The Auto defrost comes in handy for frozen foods like chicken, beef and fish. Indicate the weight of the item through multiple button presses and let the microwave do the work. We have frozen chicken more than the other proteins, and the function worked well. We really appreciate that there is the ability to silence the microwave beeps. This feature is absent in a lot of microwaves. When one member of a household is up early or late, others will appreciate no microwave beeps! The instruction manual also provides some nice guides on utensils, containers, and dishes that are appropriate for the microwave, as well as cooking techniques, defrosting guides, reheating guides, and cooking instructions for fresh and frozen vegetables. All of these guides are useful to novice microwave users (and even those who are more seasoned, as every microwave cooks a bit differently). The guides are based on what is being heated and the weight of what is being heated. The one slight complaint I have about this unit is that there is an annoying rattle on the right side of the microwave when closing the door. It almost sounds like there is something loose behind the access panel on the right side of the interior of the unit. Perhaps I will remove the access door and see if I can figure out what the source is. This is a nice unit that has found a good home in our kitchen. The fast heating, programmability, quick heat settings, and intuitive use make it a unit we would recommend to others.

This is a good microwave and very powerful. Lots of voltage, bakes potatoes in 6 minutes. However, I made the mistake of not looking carefully at the size when I bought it. It is absolutely huge. I ended having to put it between the sink and electric stove because I have a small, apartment sized kitchen. I hope that it lasts a long time, longer than the last one which pooped out after three years.

This microwave works very similar to how our old Sharp Carousel Microwave. So it was easy to use this new unit. The only issue we are having is that the door does not open when you push the button, you have to lightly pull on the door. I don't think it should operate this way, but am not sure and it might be that it just needs to wear in.

The Sharp 2.2 cu ft Stainless Family Size Countertop Microwave offers family-sized countertop cooking to handle all your quick heat-up needs while finding just the right style using stainless steel and clean black accents to match nearly any kitchen design. This Sharp 2.2cu Microwave offers powerful cooking in the convenience of a spacious cooking interior capable of holding nearly any sized cooking container. This unit comes with all the expected features including digital clock, cooking timer, Pre-set cooking settings such as popcorn and potato, and offering auto-defrost and melt/soften settings. I found this unit to be an excellent replacement of our older countertop unit by Sharp. The size of this unit is a bit large, but the cooking room inside make it worth it. The cooking precision is good and food come out hot and not overcooked. Easy to set up, easy to use, easy on the eyes if you have a stainless appliance kitchen as it fits right in! PROS - Shape name, quality, and innovation - Easy to setup and use - Big cooking space for all sizes and needs - Stylish and clean looking for countertops CONS - Size could be an issue for some

This an early roll out of the inverter microwave, it is eerily quiet, and works well. I seems to take s bit longer than the conventional sharp it replaces. That can be as much learning curve, as something they need to correct. I still never gotten power level to respond, but, again learning curve/
