This review is being posted for the Sharp - 50W Executive Hi-Fi Component System - Black Model: XL-HF102B and the Toshiba - 30W Main Unit and Speaker System Combo Set - Black Model:TY-ASW91. I purchased the Toshiba first based upon favorable reviews and it was a bit less expensive. When I received it, I felt something was off. I didn't expected it to sound like my multi-thousand dollar home theater system but it sounded "muddy" on all of the EQ settings for FM and CD. I was also not happy with the function of the remote. As many reviewers noted, the remote receiver required pretty much direct aim of the remote. I found I was constantly having to re-aim and re-press buttons. For these reasons, I ordered the Sharp system. I knew immediately that the Sharp was the better system. Keeping in mind that it cost $150 ($20 more than the Toshiba,) I could still hear a very clean sound. I suspect it is mostly due to the speakers, which are ported unlike the Toshiba's and the cabinets seem of a higher quality material. The overall responsiveness to commands was noticeably better than the Toshiba's even taking into account the Toshiba remote's difficulties. To make sure, I conducted several A/B tests with the systems side by side using my favorite FM station. No matter the volume settings and EQ modes selected, the Sharp out performed the Toshiba in every way. And the Sharp's remote is not picky about aim, either. I will note that the FM signal dropped out using the Sharp more often than the Toshiba but I didn't work very hard positioning the antenna. The Sharp has an AM band that the Toshiba doesn't but reception was poor. Again, I didn't play with the antenna much. I haven't had either system long enough to comment on other features like Bluetooth pairing and function, USB, etc. If I hadn't heard the Sharp I would have given the Toshiba 4 stars but can only give it 3 due to the audio and remote deficiencies while the Sharp warrants a 5 star review.

Solid, compact system is well constructed and provides quality sound... great value for the money.

Great compact system. Excellent cd player. Am/FM receiving very good. FM extension line for better reception. Remote is excellent. Handles all features of system from across the average size room. Remote changes the cd from song to song within seconds. Speakers very good.

Just what I was looking for my room. Easy to use. Good sound.

This is a great little stereo. It's replacing an almost 20 year-old stereo and it has the features that I am looking for. I'm able to connect through Bluetooth, use the sleep function, the alarm function(!!), connect it through my cable box for sound only, etc., and it takes up half the room that the other one did.

This is my 2nd purchase of this sharp 50W mini-system. The 1st one I bought was from Amazon, and the CD player would not play any CD. When a CD was placed in the tray, the display read "Reading CD" then seconds later, displayed "No CD." Tried several pre-recorded CDs: would not play them. I figured I got a lemon, so I went to BB online and found one "opened box" in Excellent condition, so I purchased it again. Same thing: Reading CD and then No CD. What's the problem Sharp?!. Shame because the units did play bluetooth from my phone and the sound was very very good, but I need both a CD and bluetooth player, and I liked the option to play from flash drives.

Had all that I wanted, AM,FM, CD player, MP3 player (thru usb and cds). Good sound for a smallish room.

Great system and great price. Highly recommended.

The best for size and it sharp I like its the best

The Sharp system is very good value for tyhe money BUT it has a 1 year life expectancy. I have gone through 2 of them in 2 years. The instruction booklet doesn't cover whatto do for all issues.

Great item, finally found a decent am/fm cd player for a shelf. I love it. Also delivered early and there were no issues with the package or delivery method.

Since the movers literally destroyed my stereo equiptment, this is quite ecceptable

We recently had an insurance claim; our insurance company provided this unit (directly shipped from BestBuy) as a replacement for a different make/model one that was damaged in a storm. We can’t figure out why but when playing MP3 files off of a USB stick, it will randomly drop out and go into standby mode. It might drop out after ten minutes or a few hours, there is no pattern to it. We use this to play ambient music in our business (spa environment) so we consider it critical for it to play music at all times without randomly stopping. We’ve tried multiple USB sticks and they all behave identically so it’s not a problem with just the USB stick.

Meets all my expectations so far, after about 2 months usage.

I was disappointed by how muffled the speakers sounded. I played two CDs that are crystal clear on my PC-based system, but on this mini shelf system they sounded to me more like they were being played in a generic shoebox cassette player. I plugged in a headphone that's a solid performer with my smartphone. Clarity improved, but there was a distracting hiss during silent portions of playback. So the sound quality issues aren't just with the speakers. I gave this stereo system two stars because the receiver's case and controls have a quality feel and look.

I loved this cd player but it has started skipping cd’s and they were brand new with no marks or anything wrong with them. I purchased this September 2020 so it should still work after three years. I’m upset cause I only bought it to listen to cd’s as I don’t use the radio.

The CD player, the reason we bought it, stopped working after playing 6 & 1/2 CDs. I wouldn't buy one. We are currently grappling with Sharp customer support to get the unit replaced. Once again, don't buy one.

Could not get one station to come in. Very small and compact, but horrible reception.

Used the CD player only. It broke in 2 weeks (only used 1 hour per day for my meditation) Because I had to deliver to Best Buy for them to return to Sharp, and required to pick up at Best Buy when repaired (4 total hours of drive time), I opted to return for refund. I asked Best Buy and Sharp if they could send a return label but this was not an option.

The cd player will not play any CDs. So I definitely will be returning it and will not be buying any more sharp products.
