After 9 years, my Sony 70" XBR rear projection LCD TV finally died, so it was time for a replacement. I had been eyeing the Sharp 70", but by the time it was time to buy, they released the 80". I was able to buy it at my local Magnolia Home Theater store which is part of Best Buy. The salesmen there are very polite and knowledgeable, so I had a great buying experience. You really don't want to deal with the Best Buy blue shirts when you're dropping 5 grand on a TV. It was a Friday and they were able to deliver it the very next day! The delivery guys came and set it up and hauled away my old monster. Setup was easy, just install the stand and plug it in. Now, not only was I coming from a 70", but also from a 720P resolution. The 80" 1080P picture absolutely blew me away! It's been about a month now and I have nothing but good things to say about this TV. Like the title says, don't think, just buy it. You'll be happy you did. Now, a few little things: 1. There are almost no component connections on the back, but there are 6 HDMI ports. I had to upgrade my receiver to a new one which has HDMI ports since my receiver was 9 years old and had all component connections. I went with the Onkyo TX-NR609 and like it a lot. The TV itself has pretty good sound, but you really want to run this through a receiver. 2. Gamers please note: I play a lot of CoD on my XBox and when I first tried it, the lag was unreal. Like it says in the manual, set the View Mode to Game and the Picture Mode to Dot-to-Dot and all the lag goes away. Yay! 3. Pay the $99 or whatever to have the guys set it up for you. This is a big heavy TV and it's worth it. 4. I bought the 4 year extended warrantee for around 600 bucks, but it's up to you. My sister recently had the board go bad on a 60" Samsung out of warrantee and the repair cost so much, she just threw it away and bought a new one. I didn't want to risk that with a $ 5,000 TV. 5. I haven't tried any of the internet services yet, so I can't comment on those. That's it. Trust me, you're going to love this TV.

We just bought this TV - as I had been holding out for something larger than the 60-65" that my wife was encouraging me to buy. If you watch a fair amount of TV - especially sports and movies - this will be one of the best purchases you ever made. It is just awesome how big and clear the picture is - and how it makes every show more watchable. We were blown away by how much better the TV experience is now. Things to know going into your purchase: 1) The TV stand is not as impressive as you would want. The base is just plastic with some metal braces built on - and the braces only go up 7-8 inches. Considering the size and weigh (and price) of the TV, I would have expected a more significant bracing system. 2) You'll need 2-3 people to set the TV upright. It's big and heavy. 3) You'll need an area to place the TV on it's back while you secure the TV stand to the TV. However, securing it is easy. 4) It's internet ready for the apps it offers. I haven't found a way to surf the net via the TV. It may be possible, but can't say I've figured that out - other than to run a HDMI wire from a laptop into the TV's HDMI input - and use the laptop to surf and view it on the big screen. Hope this helps...

Great for Movie and Sports Viewing

I purchased the Sharp 80 receiver on October 8, 2011. This is an amazing TV. The LED provide a very high contrast picture. The resolution is so good that I enjoy movies form just about 10 feet from the screen. It is not 3d and is the only drawback so far. It has plent;y of apps, but for some reason no you tube. The sound is ok for a LCD/LED but I suggest getting a surround sound system. A plasma has a slightly better resolution, but they don't make an 80 inch TV plus the plasma take a lot more electric. 99% of viewer are not as picky as me so there is no doubt you will enjoy this TV. One good thing about Best Buy is the 30 day return without cost, but I don't beleive you will every want to get rid of this excellent Sharp 80 inch TV. Art

    Quality tv for the price

Coming from a plasma tv I understood the limitations of LED/LCD tv. Off angle viewing is not as good on this tv, but the picture is much brighter than a plasma. Right out of the box, the image quality in movie mode is good, but I would advise getting it professionally calibrated to really open your eyes. One thing to look for with this tv because of it's size is clouding issues. Most of the time you can not see it, and over there first week or two, most of it disappears, but if it doesn't and it bothers you in dark scenes, by all means return it. You likely will see it if your crank up the backlight, which is a problem with most LED/LCD tv's. Just the way it is with current technology unless you spend several thousands more on the Sharp Elites. It's not a perfect tv, but for the price and features, it is worth it.

    Simply Amazing

It's not a tv, it's a WALL. I replaced a Samsung and have never looked back. This TV is simply amazing. You don't have to sit 15 feet back - as I have my seating about 10 feet away and the picture is so clear and crisp. The sound is what you'd expect from a flat screen, so I do recommend a surround sound system or at a minimum a sound bar. Yes, it carries a big price tag, but you get what you pay for - and for those of you who like movies or football season, this can't be touched by the competition. Paired up with Apple TV3 or a decent blu-ray player, you'll never go to the theatre again. Fair warning, it will be hard to watch anything smaller after having this. 3D is not a problem for me as I don't care for the glasses and extra hardware - for that option I prefer to wait for technology to catch up with a glasses-free 3D experience. For the picture experience, it's a 10 out of a 10 here.

    Best Home Theater screen EVER!

I couldn't be more pleased with this television! I have the screen wall mounted in my home theater. The picture is absolutely AMAZING! This was the first NON-Samsung television I have purchased for my home. I have over a dozen Samsung flat panel LED and Plasma TV's ranging from 32" to 55" - so I was a bit skeptical that the Sharp would compete with Samsung's picture. When I first turned it on, I did notice that the HD movies look fake (Like the old "Dr. Who" episodes where the lighting is really bad). I was a bit frustrated at first but I went into the settings and turned off all of the image enhance settings. Once I did that, the picture was absolutely PERFECT! I actually don't know how the speakers sound since I've never used them - I am have the screen connected to a Denon AVR-3312CI. The setup is better than I could have ever imagined! I did have to adjust the delay for speech since there is a slight delay due to the digital timing of the HDMI cable through the receiver. This took a bit of work but I eventually nailed it. No visible delays or pixelation - explosions, digital animation, etc... looks fluid. PS3 and XBOX 360 games also look AMAZING on this screen! If you are contemplating this TV - man up and buy it!!! You won't be disappointed!

    80" Monster

I received this bad boy this morning. It was delivered by 2 very nice, professional gentlemen. The picture quality through my dvr is great, but it is wonderful when watching blurays like Skyfall, which made the picture look immaculate. I have another 60" Sharp and it has been great as well going on 3 years, even though it's an LCD. Your seating position should be about 10-12 feet away from the screen and you will be fine! The TV speakers are in the back and aren't so great, but most people have it hooked up to a sound bar/surround sound. Movie nights will never be the same again. I mostly wait for films to be released on dvd and don't really frequent cinemas that much anymore. I haven't connected it to the internet yet but that's next on the list. Will keep you posted! All in all, a very happy customer! Thank you very much! I have the following settings for this set::- Picture Quality: Standard OPC: Off Backlight: +1 Contrast: +24 Brightness: 0 Color: +2 Tint: 0 Sharpness + 2 ADVANCED:- CMS Hue: -1 Red -2 Yellow +2 Magenta Everything else in CMS Hue at 0 Everything in Saturation :0 Everything in CMS Value: 0 Everything in Color Temp: 0, except set it to Middle, instead of High Motion Enhancement: Off Active Contrast: On Gamma Adjustment: -1 Film Mode: Off Digital Noise Reduction: Off Range of OPC: Max: +4 and Min -2 This ofcourse is my preference. You on the other hand might want to make adjustments according to your taste. Have a great day!

What a great experience to own this TV. When we bought it we thought it would be too big. We were wrong, it just makes everything more fun to watch. Picture quality is very good considering the size. Note the I do not use the internal speakers or internet features. Only challenge is changing the settings to remove trailing during sports and other things that move quickly. The default settings will have some trailing effects where a baseball doesn't move smoothly. Setting changes do fix that. Recommended TV.

I have had this TV for about 2 months now and it was a great purchase. I love the size. It really feels like you are at a movie theater when you watch movies. The only down side of this TV (which I expected when getting 80 inches of viewing pleasure) is the picture quality is not as great as my old 55" Samsung LCD TV. Now I have to say I am very very picky about the picture so this may not bother many people. I did get the TV calibrated as a had done with my Samsung and even after there is slight blurring when watching some shows on TV. But once I remember I am seeing 80" of TV Heaven I don't worry about it too much. I would say if you are looking for near perfect picture quality then go with a smaller (50-60") Samsung LCD. But if you can stand a little distortion and love big TVs like I do then this TV is well worth the price tag. The only other slight downfall was the sound quality. Since I have my sound from the cable box going directly to my surround sound I don't use it much on the TV but when I watch Netflix I do. Sound is very quiet but as long as you are upgrading to a surround sound (Which even adds more to the movie like experience) then you will be fine. All in all I give the TV a 9.2 out of 10 and the only big reason is the Picture quality. The size for sure makes up for it tho. So get this TV and never look back.

I was more than happy with my 70" Sharp that I bought last year but then I walked into my local Best Buy and saw the new 80 incher sitting next to the 70 incher,,,,, BIG size difference !!!!!! The new 80 incher made my 70 incher look small, like a postage stamp,,,,,, so I simply had to buy the 80 incher. Now with the 80 incher hanging on my wall and installed the picture looks even better than my 70 incher that Im selling to a friend. Anyhow,,,, I am one happy TV junkie,,,, this 80" Sharp has a killer giant picture,,,,, best upgrade money I have ever spent. And Best Buy was great though the whole purchase and delivery process,,,,, Love Best Buy !!!!!! Cheers Davyo

Holy Mackeral what a picture!!! The video quality on my Sharp 80" screen is positively amazing with absolutely no distortion. Best Buy did the installation and the performance tuning and everything is working flawlessly. You can get dizzy watching the Ariel America broadcast as they fly over the landsacpe. You can not go wrong with this product if what you are looking for is a viewing experience in your home.

I bought two TVs on the same day. This Sharp and a 55" Samsung. This Sharp blows the Samsung out of the water. No comparison. The colors look smooth and the sharpness of the image is superb despite being an 80-incher. I highly recommend this product.

This tv is amazingly large! I love the reaction I get from guests, they are as amazed as I was when I set it up. The picture is good but, as is expected, the sound is not that great. My only complaint is that for the price it should have included 3D. Aside from that I am very happy with my purchase.

I don't care about connecting features, I wish they would offer this television as a monitor meaning it only displays video, no web connection/apps, no audio just gigantic amazing picture at a lower price. However considering the demand for this stuff I doubt that will ever happen. This TV is on my shortlist over 60" that I am considering. It does have exceptional picture quality and will hopefully will spur the competition to create 80"+ LCD's and plasmas and hopefully the competition will drive prices down. However for the time being this is the best picture in this size for televisions. Way better than the mitsubishi dlp's Screens this size beg for 4k resolution. sound sucks, sounds like a flat tv
