Customers are saying

Customers highly value the sound quality, comfort, and long battery life of the OpenComm UC Wireless Bone Conduction Stereo Bluetooth Headset. Many appreciate its lightweight design and ease of use with PCs and phones. However, some users found the fit to be less than ideal and experienced occasional connectivity issues, particularly with the USB dongle. A few also noted the absence of a physical mute button as a drawback.

The Shokz - OpenComm UC Wireless Bone Conduction headphones are a great option for your phone or laptop calls moving out from the traditional in-ear headphones. I am a headphone nerd, a runner, and a music lover, additionally, most of my work entails videoconferences. In all the environments the performance was over the average. From the basics: the Shokz headphones are super light and super easy to connect by Bluetooth to your phone or with the adaptor to your laptop. Long battery (manufacturer mentioned 16 hours talking). The sound is perfect, this is my first experience with the sound conducted in the bone and I am fully convinced. I can notice the music with similar to the same quality as my other in-ear headphones. The main difference and I loved it, is the safety. While in the in-ear headphone, you finish by adapting without noticing it to the too-high volume (and progressively losing earing) with those headphones you just notice an extra vibration in your bone that signal you to adapt the sound to the proper volume. The second great option is that you keep your ears unblocked so that while still listening to music or calls you are attentive to your surroundings. The mic is great and the interlocutors can perfectly hear your voice without noticing that you are using a hands-free device. With the right size, is close to your mouth but not invasive to your face, so keeps a good visual in video conferences. The functioning is also great while the phone is kept at a certain range. The manufacturer mentioned 33 feet, which I can confirm is very handy for calls at home. The headphones fit great and because I am using glasses all day, I was concerned. However, they are so light that they don’t interfere with my glasses and they can be both there without scratching the back of my ear. I tested the headphones for: 1. Phone calls are the best, sound and comfort, plus the capacity of picking up the call directly from the headphone. Perfect. 2. Videoconferences are also great. The sound is great, easy connectivity with my laptop, and a great aesthetic. I probably will use it as my backup when traveling. For my office, I am just ok with my broadcasting sound system. 3. Running. They are good, light, and have good sound including when running at a certain speed. Not too bad with the glasses but not 100% sure that will be my first choice considering the sweat and the fact that I couldn’t find any reference to water resistance. I love those headphones for my phone calls and videoconferences. The more I use them more convinced I am about the sound into the bone technology and the positive effect of protecting against listening to music too loud.

I have been using the Shokz OpenComm headphones for about a week. I haven't used bone conducting headphones before, so I have no direct comparison other than to "standard" headphones. Out of the box, it was definitely a wow moment, the Shokz came with a very nice hard case that holds the magnetic charging cable (more on that later), the headphones, and the USB dongle. You don't need the USB dongle, as they do pair via Bluetooth - but it's nice they include it. The headphones are very lightweight and comfortable to wear. The back band doesn't sit snug on the back of your head, I think it's more there so you can wear them around your neck when you take them off rather than hold them in place. That all said, they fit securely and paired quickly on my PC and iPhone. Sound quality though is what I really wanted to test and it's impressive. It's a surreal feeling to hear audio clearly without something in and on your ears. For calls, there's no drop in quality vs any other headset. Music did sound a little more subdued, but that's to be expected without full noise isolation. That said, when I used these in the office you would think the open ear/bone conduction would mean you get distracted by office noise - but you don't. It's really cool. A real wow moment. I really am excited to use the Shokz ongoing, I have long office calls and I find on ear headsets start to hurt after about an hour - no such issue with the Shokz. I really am (for once) looking forward to extended Zoom calls with a lot more comfort. There's also something nice about not having your ears covered, easier to have conversations between calls while being ready to quickly take a call. The boom mic picks up audio smoothly and there were no complaints from my test calls about it picking up background noise. Some general observations. I wear glasses, so wasn't sure if these would fit and work for me but I am happy to report that they work fine. The ear loops are thin and my glasses fit without any issue and there's no loss of audio quality. I did ask my partner to test the Shokz (mainly because I was so amazed) but they kept laughing and saying they were getting a tickling sensation. I had no issue, but felt I should share this - not sure why my partner has an issue and I don't? The premium presentation and packaging is a huge plus, I didn't give the Shokz 5 stars because I that they charged via standard USB C rather than a proprietary magnetic cable. I don't see why they need to have a proprietary cable. Would definitely recommend if you're on the phone all day and want something comfortable, lightweight, and that keeps your ears open.

I've seen bone conduction headphones for years and always assumed they wouldn't be that great compared to traditional headphones, however, after using the Shokz OpenComm headphones for some time now I can say for a fact that these are some of the best headphones I have used in quite some time. The bone conduction technology used by Shokz is really outstanding and gives good sound quality no matter the content you are listening to, I will say that if you prefer "bassy" headphones then these probably aren't the best, but for almost anything else I would highly recommend them. I found these to be extremely comfortable since they aren't going in or over your ears you don't end up with any pressure on your ears, and they are lose enough on your head to not be uncomfortable but they are firm enough to stay on while running. I do have some complaints about the bar that goes behind your head since it will occasionally push the headphones up and into your ear if you are looking up or have any kind of equipment on your back or neck for them to bump into, but otherwise I think these are extremely comfortable and well designed. The headphones use the newer bluetooth standard and the range is great while on bluetooth, I did notice that while using the computer dongle the range was not as far as while on bluetooth, so if you need additional range it will probably be better to use bluetooth on these. One other issue I've noticed while using the computer dongle is that there seems to be a noticeable delay whereas while using bluetooth I didn't notice this delay. While the headphone audio quality is great, the microphone quality is not the best and the audio ends up sounding a bit hollow even with the mic as close to your mouth as possible, I would love to see them improve the microphone quality but I am still really impressed with these headphones and would recommend them to anyone looking for a good pair of headphones for work or video calls. The battery lasts forever as well and it makes it easy to get through a full 8 hour workday without having to even worry about the battery, if your workday is a bit longer than this you can put the headphones on the charger during your lunch and since these charge super quick you may even have a full charge depending on how long your lunch is.

These are great headphones for me to wear all day. Is it great that you can connect them to two devices at the same time. One connection (computer) uses the included USB adapter, the other (phone) is bluetooth. I have them connected to a computer for use with Teams and also connected to a phone for listening to music. I can pause music on the phone, jump on a Teams call and then back to the phone. That has worked really well. The USB adapter also has a really good range, I can easily walk 20+ feet away from my desk and not lose a connection. The microphone works well, no issues with phone calls or Teams meetings. The best part of these headphones is that they are so light. There is no fatigue when wearing them all day. Hands down, these are the most comfortable headphones I have used. The bone conduction audio is very clear. Battery life has been great, easily able to get through a work day with all day use. There are two things that I think could be improved upon. 1 - The mute controls are not intuitive and difficult to trigger - pressing volume up and down at the same time. 2 - The proprietary charger. This need to be a USB type C charger. I hate having to have a single use charger.

The OpenComm UC wireless headset is a great improvement over traditional phone-system headsets. The open-ear design allows you to be aware of your surroundings and the bone conducting technology provides crisp, clear sound without anyone around you hearing what's going on. The microphone transmits the same great quality sound. It can be swiveled out of the way when not in use, but I never really noticed it being in my way. The noise-cancelling technology blocks background noise and does a great job. I'm using the OpenComm UC as a headset for my desktop PC with a software-based phone system and they work great. The USB wireless adapter connected easily and allows me to move away from the computer - up to about 30 feet from the base. They're super-lightweight at only 33 grams so you can wear them all day without any discomfort. The silicone design makes them soft and flexible.. With 14 days of stand-by time, and up to 16 hours of talk time, there's no need to worry that the battery will run low. If it does, a 5-minute charge will provide 2 hours use, and a full charge only takes about an hour. I also tried these with my cellphone for music, phone calls, and podcasts and was equally impressed. They're water-resistant so sweat and moisture aren't an issue either. These are SO much more comfortable than a headset that covers one or both ears and the bone conducting technology works great!

If it were 50 bucks, it would still be too much. Horrible headset. 4 hours into using it, battery already half way gone. Apparently people can hear me, I imagine, but, and I assume it is because of the bone conduction technology, but hearing people is simply not loud enough. Connectivity has proven to be an issue too. It is not seamless, for example, in Microsoft Teams. My boss went to have a 1 on 1 with me yesterday, and I was not connected. WAY too much money for a headset with connection issues, and hearing people is, again, simply not loud enough.

One thing I didn’t see coming is how well these work with my glasses that have Bluetooth built into them. I can now do two meetings at the same time without them hearing each other at all and without audio muting the other meeting when I have to talk in one. Now my ability to actually retain what I hear is pushed to its limits dual meeting it but sometimes people like to schedule over meetings or I’ll be on a bridge that is only active every once in awhile and need to do an active meeting during it. So if you do need to do two meetings bone conduction headphones are amazing for letting you hear but no one else. I love the boom mic on these as well, putting the microphone near your mouth makes it so much easier for people to hear you. Also, the noise cancelling works really well, no one on the meeting could hear the kids tablets in the other room that my other mic picks up decently well. These are comfortable to wear and the battery lasts all day, I was able to get over 9 hours out of them in meetings or on phone calls all day with maybe a 5 min break. I did run into a battery issue but I think this was purely my fault, but I want to warn people against this. My work computer does not have a USB A port, so I decided to connect it via Bluetooth, but I also had the usb plugged into my hub when I did this, whatever happened my work computer wont work with the mic and usb now it also did allow me to adjust the volume until I forgot the Bluetooth device and readded it (I thought I had completely wreaked it for my laptop but I’m still able to use it via direct Bluetooth which is what I prefer anyway). I tried a bunch of stuff, but with it being a work computer all the troubleshooting is disabled too, so if you want to Bluetooth it to your computer, make sure the dongle isn’t plugged in. I used the dongle on several other computers without an issue and on the work computer prior to doing the Bluetooth. I feel like this is a headset designed for teleconference or just communication in general, this isn’t something your going to use to jam out to some tunes. Videos and music sound nice enough, but the base can really vibrate your head. I’m not one to listen to music on headphone while I work but I want to take calls on headphones, from my computer or my phone. For me, with my glasses, I have the perfect set up, however, these do have a difficult time switching between devices from what I have found. They can and do, especially between phones; however, the dongle dominates the connection and doesn’t want to give it back to the phone sometimes. I love universal chargers, and this does not have one, however, the charger is obviously designed to be able to handle a little liquid, with these being more geared toward office, USB C would have been nice. The charger at least wont let you snap it on wrong, there are magnets that resist you unless it is going on the right way. Overall, these are comfortable to wear, have excellent sound quality (mic and speakers) for communicating with others, and last long enough to get me through a work day. Pros: Comfortable Excellent mic Long battery life Has a dongle as well as connects direct via Bluetooth Cons: Dongle is USB A Charger is proprietary Struggles to switch between devices with dongle

A headset that doesn’t cover your ears. That’s the promise Shokz makes with their OpenComm UC bone conduction headset. They largely deliver on that promise. It’s an odd feeling being able to hear all that’s going on, including what’s coming through the headset, but also be aware that no one else hears what you hear! If they provided a more universal charger, I could give it 5 stars. As it’s it’s still very good. Sound quality The sound quality is good, but not excellent. This is a great headset for having a conversation. It’s good for music, but that shouldn’t be the reason to get it. There are inherent limitations when sending sound through your skull instead of your eardrums. Voices are still perfectly clear, but the frequency range is more limited. Bass sounds do not pound your ear drum in quite the same way. In classical music, there seemed to be a loss of fidelity where instruments were mixed together without some of the overtones that better quality earphones deliver. When you need to hear the outside world, there is no headset that can compete with Shokz. Some earbuds provide “pass through” where they’ll reproduce outside sounds, but it’s not the same as using these. Also, for those with mild hearing loss in their ear drum area, this headset can provide full volume without needing an additional hearing aid. These only require your inner ear work properly. Comfort The OpenComm is the most comfortable headset I’ve ever worn. It’s lightweight. It doesn’t interfere with my glasses. There’s no pressure on, in, or over my ears. Everything is open, so nothing gets sweaty. I’ve worn them for 8 hours a day for 3 days straight and barely remembered they were on. If you’re often on calls, you’ll appreciate what these have to offer. Battery Life Battery life is a little less than similarly priced headsets. When using the headset for music or for calls, the battery lasts around 6 hours. Fortunately, charging is fast, gaining an hour of usage in 6 minutes. A full charge took less than an hour. My biggest complaint is that it requires a proprietary cable for charging. The cable attaches magnetically to the headset, which also helps with water resistance. However, the standard cable is USB-A. There is no option to charge using an open standard such as a built in USB-C port or wirelessly using Qi. Calls Call quality with this headset was excellent. I tested it indoors and out. In both cases, it dropped background sounds. Some background was heard while I was speaking, but the mic was smart enough to mute my background when I was silent. I didn’t have to shout in order to be heard or understood. Other The headset connected quickly to my phone each time I turned it on. It comes with a USB-A bluetooth adapter. Connections to my PC using the adapter were a little more stable than connecting directly using my PC’s bluetooth. However, since my laptop doesn’t have a USB-A, it was better than not having a headset at all. Shokz provides a nice case with a molded insert that protects the headset well.
