Not worth buying at Best Buy
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The fact that Best Buy sells this $10 more expensive in some areas and without including the carrying case included by other sellers is not worth buying it here. The leather case is necessary in order to avoid losing the earbuds from time to time.

Best overall air conduction buds
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a runner, I’ve been a fan of open-ear headphones for a while, and while I love bone conduction models, the sound quality is good, but nowhere near great. Shokz has been hard at work to improve this in their open-ear offerings, first with the Open Run Pro 1&2 models, then with OpenFit, and now with the new Opendots One. The Opendots are different than anything else Shokz offers, and are the latest entry into the world of clip-on earbuds. Pros: • Super lightweight and comfortable for extended wearing • Excellent sound quality, rivaling some in-ear buds • Great battery life • Very secure fit, good for active lifestyles • Wireless charging Cons: • Expensive • Good water and dust resistance, but not water or dust proof Let’s deal with the top areas that I think make the difference for ear buds, then I’ll address the usage profiles where the Opendots would be a good pick. Comfort – this is a big one for me, because if they’re not comfortable, then I won’t be wearing them. I am a big fan of the neckband style of bone conduction headphones, but I’ll admit they’re a little annoying when used with glasses. The ear cuff style employed by the Opendots is great for use with glasses, as they’re completely out of the way of glasses, similar to in-ear buds. The main concern with the clip-on style is ear soreness, or fatigue at the points where the cuff touches the ear. As with their other models, Shokz uses titanium and soft silicone to make these very comfortable. Unlike other clip-ons that use hard plastic, the Opendots are flexible and comfortable. As with anything that touches the ear for any length of time, I had to shift them from time to time, but I had no problem wearing them for hours at a time. They are also totally secure, and did not budge at all during my run. Sound quality – this is where the Opendots really shine! These are quite possibly the best sounding earbuds that Shokz has yet produced, and they’re actually better than some in-ear buds as well. As I’ve found with the other “air conduction” models from Shokz, these have have a wider sound stage and a very enjoyable overall sound signature. There are several preset EQ options such as standard, vocal, bass boost and treble boost, as well as a 5-band custom EQ. These are good enough that I found myself putting them in just to listen to my music, something I never did with bone conduction, which I have for use while running. Call quality is excellent, on par with any of the top-shelf alternatives. Features – the Opendots feature touch controls, and these may be done in two ways. First, you can tap the band that connects the battery to the bud, just like you would with any other touch-sensitive earbud, or you can tap the battery compartment that sits behind your ear. You can also squeeze or double-squeeze the battery compartment. I found these squeezes to be more dependable than tapping the band, which were sometimes ignored. Taps can be used to play/pause, accept or reject/end calls, and raise/lower volume (long press). Unfortunately, there isn’t any way to customize what taps do, and I would have liked to be able to skip forward or back in my playlist. The app does have a place to customize the taps, but currently all you can do is turn them on or off. Hopefully that will be rectified in a future update. Something unique to the Opendots is that it doesn’t matter which earbud goes in which ear. They sense when they’re properly positioned, as well as which ear they’re in, so you don’t have to worry about keeping them in the right ear or placed in the right spot in the charging case. Speaking of the case, it is small and fits easily in a pocket, and it supports wireless charging, in addition to USB-C. Battery life is great. I didn’t use them long enough continuously to drain the battery, but I never had to worry about running out of power. So, who are these for? As a runner, I don’t think you can do better than pure bone conduction (without an “air conduction” speaker). I say that because I sweat a lot and bone conduction models are often waterproof, or nearly so. Since the Opendots use tiny speaker drivers, they are by design more open to their surroundings. Shokz rates these at IP54, which means they’re water and dust resistant, but not water and dust proof. If you don’t sweat a lot or run in dusty environments, that would be plenty for you, and it’s enough for me too during the colder months of the year, but I probably won’t use them for running during the summer. That said, they are extremely secure, and I had no worries that they would fall out. In fact, they don’t move at all, so if you have difficulty with traditional earbuds when they get sweaty, that’s not an issue with the Opendots. I would position the Opendots as all-around earbuds than can also be used for exercise as long as they won’t get too wet. That means wearing them around the house and using them for calls, meetings, and music, while preserving the ability to hear what’s going on around you when you need to do that, then going to the gym or for a walk/run. They’re comfortable enough to be your everyday buds, and sound good enough to use them for whatever you need. As with any open-ear style bud, too much exterior noise can drown out what you’re listening to, so if you need full-blown active noise cancellation and isolation, these aren’t the buds for you. The market for ear cuff-style buds is growing rapidly. There are much cheaper options available, as well as those that cost a lot more. Build quality and performance put these in the premium category, in my opinion, but you’ll have to decide if that’s worth the price difference over cheaper competitors. It's crucial to understand how you want to use these before you get them, or you may not be happy. Sound quality is really, really good, but if you don’t care about situational awareness, you’re probably better off with high-quality in-ear monitors. If, like me, you prefer not to have your ear canal filled up, then give these a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Changed my life
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Okay i was happy wirh my Samsung buds, but i was soop tired of that wax and sweat build up ajd gross feeling, not to mention the isolation from outside. I barely listen to music, my main use is calls and podcasts/YouTube. And this product is perfect for that. I leave them on and forget about it. So comfortable. I sleep with something playing in my ears and i woke up to 80% battery. They dont die just by being out of case, like my pixel buds. Also the transition between two devices is apple level good. I can pause media on one device and hit play on other, and it switches instantly. Im actually very satisfied. Music is also not too bad.

Comfortable with Great Sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like open ear clip on earbuds. To me, they are very comfortable and give me the perfect combination of listening to my music but still allowing me to be connected to the outside world. I've seen various manufacturers jump on this open ear clip on earbud design and was excited to try this out. I'm familiar with the Shokz brand name but this is the first time being an owner of their products. The packaging wasn't too surprising. Inside the recyclable box you obviously get the earbuds in their case and a short USB-C to USB-C cable. I was pleased to find no plastic battery saver tab that I would need to pull off of the earbuds before first use/charging. Also, included in the box is a small stack of papers that include warranty, quick use and normal legal stuff. Some quick facts: you can charge the case using USB-C cable where the port is on the bottom, or you can charge wirelessly. You get 10 hours of audio on the earbuds and the case gives you 30 more hours of charge time. In a first for me, the earbuds can be used inter-changeably. In other words, the right or left earbud can fit on your right or left ear. This was a little bit of a selling point for me. Just a few years ago, some earbuds were not true wireless. You couldn't just listen to one earbud without having the primary earbud in. These OpenDot One earbuds are truly wireless and can be used interchangeably. In fact, there are no markings on the earbuds to indicate left or right. But I kinda wish they did mark them in some way for two reasons. In some immersive audio experiences you want things to pan from left to right or vice versa. If you don't have the correct earbud in the correct ear, it can throw things off. Second, there is a "Find my Earbuds" feature where you can ping either your left or right earbud. It's only a minor inconvenience if you ping the wrong one first, but you do have a 50/50 chance. I have a couple problems with the overall packaging. 1. The case top and bottom are rounded. Sometimes I don’t want to lay the case down, I want it to sit up and you can barely do that because there is a USB-C port on the bottom so you have to balance it just so to get it to sit. However, if you open the case, it won't sit up anymore because it's no longer balanced. 2. In order to use the Shokz app to apply a firmware update or adjust the earbuds, you have to register using the serial number. That serial number is on the back of the Warranty Card inside the original packaging. I almost tossed out all the packaging before setting up the app, so I would have been out of luck with that. Speaking of the Shokz app, I have a couple more nit-picks on that. The earbuds come with Dolby Audio turned off by default. You have to go into the Shokz app to turn it on. Similar with the Multi-Point Bluetooth Pairing. Again, you have to go into the Shokz app to turn it on. Pairing these earbuds to my phone was very easy without the Shokz app. Open the case, press and hold the round button on the back of the case until the indicator light on the front of the case flashes between colors and then you can go into Bluetooth pairing on your phone it was recognized quickly. These Shokz OpenDot One earbuds are very nice. They have just the right amount of spring tension to hold the earbuds around my ear without my outer ear feeling pinched. I can shake my head and I feel like they are secure and don’t move. The audio is great. The Shokz app allows me to customize the sound experience. I've played some music for hours and I don't feel any fatigue. Also, within the Shokz app you can learn about the touch controls. There are touch controls that are default and then there is one customizable touch (two finger long press). I would have liked the ability to customize more of the touch controls, but what I have now is fine. It will take me a little bit more time to adjust to these touch controls, but in the meantime, I'll just adjust it on my phone. Overall, these OpenDot One earbuds are very comfortable and deliver great sound. They've quickly become my first pick earbuds for day-to-day use.

More than I expected
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are a different type of earbud than what I'm used to and their performance really surprised me. One of the problems I often have with earbuds is that they can get quite uncomfortable after extended use. The design of these earbuds practically removes that issue altogether. Shokz headphones are known for the bone-conducting style. I have a different set from Shokz, but never found them particularly effective when it comes to bass. These earbuds don't go completely into the ear canal, so I expected similar response. But these earbuds actually carry some good bass - at least much better than one would expect considering they're sitting just on the outside of the ear canal instead of inside it. The form of the earbuds clip on the rib of your ear, which is far more comfortable. The grip is strong - but not too strong, and I can move around quite vigorously without getting any shift whatsoever. Volume-wise, I don't find these buds too loud. Indeed, at full volume, I can't hear people around me; but if I put them at a more mid-level volume, I can hear others very clearly...and this is key when you don't want to drown own the world around you. The case is pretty basic. It's small, has wireless charging and the buds just magnetically snap into place. Oh, other thing about the buds: They're side-agnostic...there's no real Right or Left (although you might want to confirm which is which in your audio - if you care that much). This means I can just plop the buds on without worrying whether I'm reversing them improperly. Bluetooth connectivity was also just fine. Connection was quick and I had not problems keeping the connection. Other than that it's pretty basic - just what we're all accustomed to at this point. Simply put, I really LOVE these earbuds!

Great sound, great fit!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shokz OpenDots One are INCREDIBLY COMFORTABLE and offer impressive sound quality for such a tiny little device. The "pressure" on your ears when these are "clamped" on is negligible. It is very easy to forget you have them on. You can whip your head around without fear of them sliding off. The audio (music) is very "forward" in the experience. I can hear everyone else in the room, but the audio experience is similar to being in a room listening to a surround sound stereo system. You can hear everything around you, but the audio from the OpenDots holds your attention. These are not noise canceling headphones, so you hear the sounds around you, but ambient noise is not distracting. The sound is immersive, unlike some on-ear buds. The quality of music is solid. Surprising lows (bass) and crisp highs (treble). Volume levels are terrific. Touch controls are responsive. The fit is lightweight and comfortable. Managed to wear them on day 1 for at least 5 hours without any discomfort--which included a 30-minute indoor workout and a 30-minute jog. There was slight "redness" on one ear the next day but nothing painful. The buds stayed in place during the workout and run. Wind noise is negligible and no different than what you get from any earbud in windy conditions. The app brings instructions (such as the touch commands) into focus and offers other benefits such as firmware updates and an EQ for your music. I used the earbuds for a phone call and each party heard one another just fine. I was not a fan of the bone conduction wrap-around Shokz, but I absolutely LOVE the quality and fit of the Shokz OpenDots One. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND these earbuds to anyone looking for quality sound and a comfortable fitting, non-noise canceling audio experience. These could easily become my every day buds!

Fantastic sound with a unique and comfortable fit
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been a fan of Shokz products - their bone conduction, earless fit is great for me since I wear glasses and find over-the-ear headphones difficult and sometimes painful to wear. I have had at least two or three of Shokz's headsets for both work and working out and have been delighted with their sound, performance, longevity, and fit. The new Shokz OpenDots ONE Earbuds are a game-changer. These are sort of like a hybrid between in-ear buds, over-the-ear headphones, and bone conduction technologies all in one. First off, the fit is really, REALLY comfortable. The buds - which are not ear-specific - fit sort of like a clip on each of your ears. It took me a few tries to get the fit right and to make sure the earbuds were situated for optimal sound. Secondly, let's talk sound. I was NOT expecting these tiny little ear "clip" earbuds to deliver the sound quality they deliver. I consider myself somewhat of an audiophile and am pretty picky when it comes to sound. The Shokz OpenDots One Earbuds do not disappoint. The sound is rich, the bass is strong. Let's talk battery life. This also impressed me. I wore the OpeDots for a full day, a mix of dozen of Teams calls, a few traditional calls, listening to some music on a run, and watching the news on my computer. Battery life - still over 50% at the end of the day. Impressive, indeed. These are a game-changer, especially if you're like me and don't like in-ear or over-the-ear headphones. I haven't mastered the finger gestures, yet, but I am absolutely in love with these earbuds. 1000% recommend.

Not nearly as good as Shokz OpenFit 2
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will return these earbuds because the two ends of the structure are awkward to put on and behind your ears correctly, and when you finally find the best position for the part that goes near your ear canal it slips eventually which affects the clarity and volume, and the clip design gets uncomfortable on your earlobe. Additionally, they don't sound as good as the Shokz OpenFit 2 which I've owned for a while and enjoy even more than my Apple Airpods.

One of the best clip on earphones on the market
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a very low expecation for open anything earbuds. And to be a clip on to boot, I really did not have high hopes for good audio. I was mistaken! The drivers actually deliver some solid and serious sound! I am not sure if it's the Dolby setting but the overall sound has more body than I thought it would have. I expected it to be tinny and very quiet. The box has a very minimal items. Nothing more than a shortie USB C to USB C to charge it. Oh and I fogot this has wireless charging! A neat feature, but I guess I would use it if I was out and about and needed to reverse charge from my pixel phone. But I normally do not use wireless charging on earbuds. The shokz app they recommend you using is average. I like there's a customizable EQ, but whenever you edit anything, the earbuds turn off and on, like a soft reboot of sorts. Kind of annoying. But once you have it set or use one of the presets, it sounds great. The bass is just enough but not like in ear buds but it's good enough. And also gets loud enough too. The touch gestures take a little bit to get used to. Especially the pinch on each side to lower and increase volume. However, on my phone changing the volume of the headset only changes the headset and not my phone, which is weird because when I also paired it with my PC, the volume changed the computer system's volume, not the headphones. Also in my initial use after a firmware update, the headset touch controls did not work until I toggled some settings to wake up the connection. I am pretty sure that's just a software issue. One thing I cannot forgive is that there is no Left or Right side indicators. You would think they would because they have assigned controls for each side, like increase volume pinch on the right and decrease pinch on the left. When I initially tried it, I actually had it backwards! This is one gripe that I will deduct a star rating for, well that along with the soft reboot when changing EQ settings. The battery is decent and charging is pretty quick. When doing some light stretching, I could easily wear them and perform the stretches without issues, no fear of the clips to shake off. Would I recommend them? Yes! But if you need to determine the left or right side, it's a toss up. The site says you can use them interchangeably but why assign the sides?? Other than that and the slight reboot when changing settings on the EQ, it's a one of the better sounding clips I have heard.
