Secure Awareness
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Shokz has long been a proponent of open ear designs, and have offered an alternative to their bone conduction line of headphones with an earbud line called OpenFit. They have iterated these to the new OpenFit 2. Do these open earbuds work well in a crowded market? Let’s take a look and find out! Inside the 100% recyclable box are the earbuds, a case, some documentation, and a very short USB-C to USB-C charging cable. The case is a thin clamshell design with a magnetic closure. The earbuds are secured with a good strong magnetic connection that has just the right amount of strength to guide the earbuds into place but also make removal easy. The earbuds look and feel very high quality. Metallic finishes and soft silicone ear hooks make these look clean and are incredibly comfortable to wear. Each earbud has a single physical button, along with a touch sensitive area. There is no wireless charging for the case, it just charges over USB-C. The case also has a single button that when pressed and held will start paring so you can connect to another device. Opening the case the first time starts the paring process right away, and the earbuds pair immediately to whatever device you want to pair them to. Paring them to a phone is an easy process, but I also found that they pair very well to a Windows PC. They pair very quickly and reliably, more so than a pair of AirPods that I have also paired to the PC. Audio quality is very good for an open earbud design. Overall, I think my AirPod Pro 2s are a touch better, but that is due to the closed fit design and active noise cancellation. But that is kind of the opposite of the point of these earbuds. The OpenFit 2 are designed with awareness as a feature, sitting outside of the ear and leaving you aware of your surroundings with a secure fit that is very comfortable, and with those goals in mind, these earbuds really excel. Since they are physically larger than in-ear designed ear buds with the battery in the back of the ear hook, they have a huge battery life as an added bonus. You might be wondering about sound leakage for both your audio or a phone call or video chat, which Shokz addresses with their DirectPitch technology. This technology is like active noise cancellation in reverse. Instead of cancelling ambient noise in toward the listener, it cancels the sounds the earbuds make as sound travels out away from the listener. I did some testing with this and sure enough, as soon as you are out of the “sweet spot” with the earbud in your ear, the sound just kind of vanished. At anything but an extremely close distance you can’t hear it or make out what is being played or said at all. With their long battery life, comfortable fit, clear microphones, and open ear design, these earbuds make a great device for video calls. My only wish is that you could set up either the physical button or the touch area to mute and un-mute the mic. This would make them into incredible earbuds for video calls, but even without that feature, they are really good for use as a communications device. Maybe a future firmware update will add this option. With a higher price point in a crowded field, who are these for? In an Apple ecosystem, they don’t have the features of the AirPod 4th Gen (especially the model with ANC) or the benchmark standard of the AirPods Pro 2. What they do offer is incredible battery life and exceptional comfort, along with a high degree of situational awareness. For bikers, runners, or other athletes, these are an excellent option as they are very secure and allow you to still be very aware of what is going on around you. They are also really great as an option for spending days on video calls. If those features appeal to you, then these are an excellent sounding option you should consider.

Great Open-Ear Earphones
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shokz OpenFit 2 earphones are a great set of open-ear earphones. The earphones come with a charging case and small charging cable. They feature up to 48 hours of battery life. Setting up the earphones is relatively simple, and familiar if you have ever set up a bluetooth device before. There is an app you can connect to, which promises further customizability, including EQ adjustments, however, I have received these as a pre-release review, and the app features are not ready for release. So I am unable to comment on those features, but they do sound promising. I was a bit skeptical about the Shokz OpenFit 2 because I have used other Shokz products that use the bone conduction tech, and I was not impressed. I was relieved to see that these just use an open-ear design instead of the bone conduction design of the other headset I previously used, and the difference was quite clear. I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality of these earphones. Because of the open-ear design, I wasn't expecting much from the sound quality, but I was actually blown away. They sound really good. They even have a good amount of bass, which I didn't even think was possible with this type of design. And, being open-ear, you are still able to hear the environment around you. I used these at the gym, and I was able to clearly hear my music, but also still be aware of things going on around me. These are the perfect type of earphones for use in those types of situations. They are also quite comfortable. I was able to wear them for about an hour and I never felt any kind of discomfort or anything, and eventually it just felt like I wasn't even wearing anything. This was a nice change from other in-ear earbuds that can cause ear fatigue after just a little while. One last thing that I really appreciate about the open-ear design is that these don't get as dirty as in-ear buds. I'm always a bit grossed out when I take out my in-ear buds, but with these, I take them out and give them a quick wipe-down and they are good as new. Overall I am very happy with the Shokz OpenFit 2 ear phones. They are very comfortable to wear for long periods, have great sound quality, a long lasting battery, and the open-ear design is something I didn't know I would appreciate so much. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for new earphones.

Loved these but already an issue.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use these religiously while running and working out. I have had them a little over a month and it feels like my sweat has caused the left one to sound like static and garbled. Regret not buying the warranty as these would be getting returned. I now need to rely on a what is apparently less than stellar warranty and return from the manufactuer. If you work out do not buy as sweat does not play nice. The name Open Fit is a lie.

Cool idea, bad execution
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cool idea, but not practical. They only sound good sitting in a quiet room not doing anything, the second you start moving, you lose so much sound quality.

Good, but not great.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried these as a replacement for my open run pros and was let down by the sound leakage. They don’t feel super secure either compared to others. I ended up with the powerbeats pro 2s.

Shokz continues to improve, sound, quality, wear
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is an updated app due out to support these in near future, but for now it has yet to be released. Overall sound quality is nice and really enjoy wearing these to workout out with and be out and about. You have to take into consideration the difference in comfort, wear, and sound when moving from in-ear to open ear buds. There is always going to be a sound difference dues to environmental changes and wearer awareness. Wearing these around allow you to interact with people easier without feeling as though you are ignoring the world around you. With other earbuds, you have to either remove them to hear properly or switch them to hear ambient sound. They are very light in weight, making them comfortable to wear. These take around an hour to charge, depending on how low the battery is at the time of charging. There is a quick 10-minute charge option to gain at least two hours of connectivity until you can give the open ears a chance to fully charge. These do use the latest generation of Bluetooth, 5.4 while having a nice range before hearing any kind of distortion in service; ~35 feet in range. Connection via Bluetooth is quick and easy. The charging case is nice and thin, but it is like placing another wallet in your pocket as the case needs match the size of the wrap around earbuds. Looking forward to what the app has to offer an any additional changes or updates to the earbuds as it is released.

Open Fit 2 in one crucial aspect really sucks
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was out on a ride this morning and lost one of my earbuds. This is happened with my Samsung buds and j-pro and it is a fact of life that I've learned to live with. In both of my previous earbuds I was able to buy a replacement on eBay and pair it with my existing case and earbud. I was very just made to hear from shokz that this would not be possible with their earbuds. Before you buy these earbuds please be aware that unlike their competitors, shokz does not care about you as a customer at least not as much as their competitors. I will never deal with this company again

Feel nice, Sound is okay, unwanted connections
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Please keep connecting while in their charging case, the charging case has the charging indicator so the connection is fine, they'll be sitting on the counter and suddenly lose my call or music because they connect to the earbuds while in the case. The only way to prevent this is to unpair them and repair them every time you want to use them. It's a pain for expensive ear buds.

Wow New and very improved over gen 1
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I Got the extended warranty on my gen 1’s last year and the case quit working correctly so i took them into best buy and they promptly free exchanged me a new set of the gen 2’s. I wasn’t expecting the upgrade. I had to pay 30.00 extra because the price increased over last years. Wow well worth the extra plus the extended warranty cost. Sound quality and frequency range twice as good. Feel same comfort. Battery life has almost doubled. Also Paired easily. Bass mid and treble response is probably the most noticeable improvement.

Absolutely love these!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will start by saying I have been a big fan of the Shokz brand for a while now. I have had a pair of the Open Run bone conduction headphones for many years now. There was only one very minor complaint I had about those, and I can say these have fixed that. Out of the box you can tell that these ear buds are well made. The case seems a little flimsy, and I’d be worried about dropping it on a hard surface from any kind of height, so definitely be careful with that. I only use mine for work. I have a job where I caption phone calls for the deaf so I spend most of my day listening to phone calls and then captioning those calls. So I need a headset that is not only comfortable, but also has good sound quality and battery life. I can say these earbuds are exactly what I have been looking for! I have a high back desk chair with a head rest and I always hated the open run ones with the band that goes around the back of your head because I could not comfortably lean back on my headrest. With these, there is no band on the back so I can easily lay my head back. These are also so comfortable that you literally will forget you have them on. I found absolutely no discomfort and they are so light and small you wont even notice them. I don’t use mine for exercising, but I tried a little jogging and jumping around they solidly stayed on my ear without any problems. Another thing I like is if you only want to use one, you can do that as well. These aren’t bone conduction like most of the Shokz line is, they actually have little speakers that fire directly into your ear. But they sit outside your ear so you can still clearly hear everything that is going on around you. I have to say, from using the Open Run one for years I didn’t have high hopes about the sound quality of these, but I was actually pretty pleasantly surprised with how good these sound. There is definitely a lot more low end than I was expecting. Granted, these do sit outside the ear so you don’t get that ear canal seal that you do with a typical earbud that can produce a lot of bass, but these actually sound very good for what they are! Music as well as phone calls will sound great through these ear buds. I didn’t see anything in the manual about the battery life, but I can tell you I was able to have them on and work a full 8 hour shift and the batteries didn’t die. The case also has a battery in it as well and will charge them if its not plugged into the wall giving you a little extra juice if you are away from a charger for a long time. The one thing I don’t like about these though is determining how much battery life you have left without using an app. On my Open Run ones when you turn them on there is a voice that says “battery level high” or “battery level medium”. It would be nice to add that feature to these maybe through a firmware update in the future, because a lot of people wont always be using these with their phone and the one light on the case makes it hard to determine how much battery life you actually have. Overall, I absolutely love these and will be using them every day for work. If you are looking for some open earbuds, absolutely check these out. I'm sure you will love them as much as I do!

Big upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ive used the older original openfits since they launched durable and sound good but had some cons. They werent loud enough, back part rubbed my ear making them uncomfortable over long usage and battery life was too short. These openfit 2's improve on everything. Fit is better they dont push on my ear as much as the older ones. Sound volume is drastically improved these will get loud and seem to have a broader sound quality. Im now keeping volume 1/2 to 3/4 instead of fullblast and also helps with phone calls a lot. They do have a noticable difference in design feels like the weight is more spread out feeling more like im not wearing anything. Case is a tad bit different but still looks pretty close to older ones design but more rounded. Overall very pleased with them their very worthy of the cost of upgrading to them.
