Great mic. My voice sounds warm, but the mic isn’t hot so there’s not a exorbitant amount of sibilance. Lover the versatility of being able to go from XLR to USB

An excellent upgrade to my Samson Q2U

I recently switched to a dedicated external microphone for daily use—and as a telecommuter, you’d think that I’d settle for something with a budget price tag. I landed on the Samson Q2U, an affordable basic microphone with both XLR and USB inputs. The Q2U is 40% the price of the Shure MV7 and honestly not even a real competitor. While the MV7 has both XLR and USB inputs, it is not something that I’d buy purely for use with an audio interface via XLR. The USB connection allows you to take advantage of the software and feature set that just isn’t available on a basic audio interface. Shure’s design of the MV7 is similar in many ways to the more premium SM7B, and in that way delivers on ‘looking the part’ of a high quality, mainstream microphone. It also has touch controls for volume, gain and monitor mix. There is a headphone jack for studio monitoring on the back of the microphone. When counted via USB, the MV7 is a stud of a microphone, and offers way more than my existing $100 mic and $100 audio interface. By XLR only, the MV7 is fine—but with USB, it adds compression and other adjustment to the audio track that removes the need for some post processing of recordings. If I could go back and do it all again, I would have liked to pick up the MV7 as a good all around microphone that I could use for gaming, streaming and even the never ending onslaught of video conferences that I find myself in. The audio quality is superior to my Q2U, the software options more robust and it’s a really great looking microphone.

    My New Favorite Microphone

Why I Love it: It's very easy to set up. It's really just a plug and play Microphone with professional quality. And if you want to sound like the best out there, just change the windscreen to the A7WS for around $25 and thats it. Yes that windscreen will look huge but it does fit and changes the sound the way you need. What I don't like: The stand is great for a desktop setup, but it's limited in what it can do, of course, so you may end up spending even more money on getting a better stand or mount of some sort to make the microphone work for you, and with the cost of the windscreen and the possibility of the stand having to be replaced as well, I would factor in another 50-75 dollars to the cost of this. But that additional cost isn't needed immediately.

Overall this is a great mic but has a major flaw. It utilizes micro usb to connect which is an outdated and fragile connection. Im having ti get mine rellaced through total tech because its at the point where it loses connection if i move or touch the mic. I would give it 5 stars if they switched the port to USB-c.

I used this specifically to stream and record footage of me playing video games. Wow, was I blown away by the way the reverb in my voice sounded on some cheap 30 dollar computer speakers. It gave me the professional credibility when trying to give an audience a professional experience so it hit that note in my book. The touch feature was a bit hard to get used to, I have large fingers and sometimes it’s hard to be precise with what I’m doing when I need to mute the mic on the fly. I used Streamlabs OBS to stream and record with this Microphone. When connecting to the computer you have two options, micro USB, or Type C. The computer recognizes it right away, I downloaded the app and noticed that there was a channel issue. The playback was super deep and it gave me a warning and showed me how to fix it. Great and useful feature in my book when someone who’s not so tech savvy decides to upgrade their recording equipment. All in all, the feel, the weight, the quality, and material all are highly respectable and worth it.

This microphone has no business delivering the incredible quality of audio that it does at this price point. It has definitely blown away myself and the other guys I game and record with. One of the first things I noticed is how, even without a pop filter, this microphone seems to attenuate plosives. I have a lisp and am definitely heavy on my plosives when I record, and this thing is really doing a spectacular job of cutting those out of the recordings and chat streams. The inclusion of a USB-C and USB-A cable with which to connect this mike is thoughtful. I have been using this mic set up with both my XPS 13 with its USB-C port and with my gaming PC set up that has a swath of USB-A ports but just one USB-C port that is occupied by my portable SSD. If you are looking for a USB recording mic for gaming, audio recording, streaming, podcasts, etc., this microphone is demonstrative of what I think is the next generation of enthusiast grade home recording microphones!

Shure mics have a long standing history as solid choice in the recording biz and the MV7 is a perfect edition to that legacy. This mic allows for simple set up and easy use. But that’s just the beginning of it. The sound quality is superior to many mics in a similar price range and even some above. Offering rich tones and crisp clean highs this mic, which is touted as a podcast mic, can do so much more. The versatility of both XLR and USB (both A and C) allows for many different options when creating. The application is quick and easy to install and offers greater control when using the mic in USB mode without the need for extra EQ programs. I’m hard pressed to find any negatives with this mic and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a versatile plug and play mic for both beginners and pros alike!

Crystal Clear Quality for Many Applications

In the COVID era, most people work from home and all our meetings are now virtual. With that, a lot of people are finding themselves needing better quality audio microphones for these meetings! I know this is a podcast microphone, but I find it to be much more versatile than just that. This resembles the Shure SMB7 quite a bit, even has some of its features, but it is not an SMB7. The SMB7 is for strictly recording purposes, while this, is its more versatile little brother. This is NOT a bad thing! The SMB7 is almost double the price, so for almost half the price, you do get good features and an easy device to use. I will go over some of the different applications I've used the microphone for. Zoom/Teams Meetings: - My colleagues have told me I sound crystal clear after using this microphone! One said, it sounds like I was in the room with him. Discord: - Same thing as the other, the audio quality is crystal clear when talking, the ambient noise reduction is amazing, I can sneeze and it won't be registered, but my talking voice will be. Same with ambient noise like phones going off, not picked up by the mic, only voices. Recording: - I used this on my Macbook Pro with my Scarlett interface and found this to actually be a pretty well rounded microphone to use via XLR. I play trumpet and for fun, decided to record trumpet on this. Now, this microphone has a very low frequency range, I believe 80hz-16khz which isn't great for recording instruments, you lose a lot of frequencies in the low and high end. But for trumpet, this worked out nice, presenting a nice well rounded sound that I actually was a fan of. For vocals, same thing, very well rounded. Regarding their Shure MOV app, it is OK. It has some neat features like the compressor and limiter, I do set the compressor to medium when talking to accentuate lower volume voices. However, sometimes the app is buggy and doesn't recognize the microphone at times and the auto mode is trash, don't use it. It just always fluctuates the volume and is not useful at all. All in all, this is a great microphone that can suit a myriad of needs. You can stream, you can podcast, you can use it for your work meetings, you can use it for gaming, you can use it for recording vocals, you can use it on some instruments, you can use it as a decorative piece, you name it, it can do it! 5/5

Overall For a while now I’ve been using a tripod mic so when this came along I was certainly unprepared with something proper seeing as I am without a boom arm. Standing it up while holding it from its base seems to have made it work the same, however. Getting it connected to Audacity was simple enough. Although I did have a few issues which I believe were the drivers on my rapidly aging AIO workstation. I’d probably have a better setup experience pairing it with my modern gaming build but that's in a less ideal space for recording. The touch sensor buttons on the top are a bit finicky for my taste. For example, adjusting the monitoring it requires multiple swipes across the surface. I would think it would be sensitive per LED so a single swipe would lower it entirely. I suppose this method gives more accuracy of how much you wish to adjust. But out of preference I’ve just resorted to using the app for any adjustments as the touch interface feels too clunky for me. In terms of functionality, the app allows for some adjustments from EQ, Compression, Limiter, and distance. However, setting it to automatic takes care of all the settings for you. The sound is extremely good. It really does only capture the sound of your voice and nothing else. I have a fairly loud waterfall filter in an aquarium near the same room where this mic has been setup. The built-in mic from the AIO system picks it up but the Shure does not. Overall, this is a really good mic with plenty of features for an up-and-coming content creator. The biggest caveat, as others have mentioned, is the lack of a USB type C.

I've own several microphones as I've been recording vocals and music for a while now. I want to say how easy it was to use this microphone. The first thing I notice is how well built the microphone is and looks very professional. I just plugged in the USB (comes with USB-1 & USB-C cables) to my laptop, change the input preferences, and I was done. I like the idea of using this microphone with smartphone devices for mobile use. You also have the option to use an XLR cable. Evident sound, no audio interface needed. I usually use audio interfaces from a logic pro with simulators to help me. The sound is perfect but keeps in mind you'll need to be aware of your proximity, as the microphone is very sensitive. I was told this when streaming on discord with my friends, no big problem but something to be aware of; either way, the sound was unmistakable. I did not use the Shureplus MOTIV app to make adjustments. I thought I didn't need it since I make adjustments through a logic pro. I also made adjustments manually through the controls in the microphone. I can mute and change the volume, and I like this option for when I am live streaming. The microphone does not come with a mic stand. Sold separately. I went to the Shure website for more information about the microphone, and they have different useful tips to help you set up the microphone. I recommend this microphone for this simplicity and quality sound. I upgraded my microphone, and I look forward to recording music and podcasts. Worth it!!

I was excited to try out this microphone. Whats in the box: Not a lot. The microphone, a quick start guide and a couple usb cables. Getting Started: This was very easy to do. The guide included in the box gets you started with the basics, and shows you where you can go download the Shure software to help with sound quality and adjustments. You want to do this to get the best out of the microphone! Use: First of all, I wish this microphone included a stand of any type. It does not. So if you do not have a microphone stand or arm, it going to just be sitting on your table in the beginning. a simple table top stand would have been a nice addition. I use this as a USB microphone, recording with GarageBand on a Mac. I have also used this for Zoom calls. With Zoom, I use the shure software and the sound quality is great. You can adjust for near or far, or go custom and tweak all sorts of settings to get the best sound that you can. I then turn off the built in zoom audio controls. I've been told I sound great on zoom calls now. Recording with GarageBand really shows how this microphone shines. While it is designed as a near field microphone, you can get pretty far away and use it as a boom mike if you will. Add in just a little compression and EQ and it sounds like a very professional microphone. Features: This microphone has a USB and XLR output, as well as a monitor output. There are built in touch controls, which are very handy for close up live recording using a monitor. The recording I do, I don't use this as I use the software after the fact, but I tested them out and the controls are easy to use and you are able to easily adjust the gain level or mute. Build quality: This feels great. Very solid. A good weight, but not too heavy. The foam filter works well for blocking out breath or wind noises. Overall: great quality, especially for a USB microphone, but you can improve it by using an XLR interface. Feels great and looks great. 4 stars instead of 5 as I feel it should have included a small stand of some sort, or at least advertise that it doesn't include one. You are able to buy packages on the shure website, but it almost feels like an upgrade rather than a requirement.

I actually went from a yeti blue mic to the MV7. I'll be hones that there isn't a HUGE difference, but the MV7 definitely has the edge. The software if very very good. It's simple, easily manageable and has one-button setups etc. Very user friendly. By comparison, the yeti is a "plug and go" and can be frustrating using third party software if you need it. In this case, I needed to eliminate background noice which the yeti is notorious for picking up. The big negative of this mic is that instead of knobs, it has a slide bar with a sensor for gain/volume, which is mind boggling why they chose that, it's very inconvenient. However, set it all to max then adjust it through the software and you're good. Overall it's a great mic. I do my settings through OBS (streaming software) and it's cherry. You also have the option to use it as a condensor mic which is nice, but unless you're a pro podcaster, I'm sure you'll be fine.

I've spent a few days with this mic and let me tell you it did not disappoint! This mic is very versatile with its XLR and USB interfaces. It allows me to either use phantom power it with my audio interface, and also my PA during a live performance. With the USB after you install the Shureplus MOTIV app its literally plug and play. It makes it super easy to setup on the fly. The USB interface allows you use the MOTIV app adding alot of easy tuning to the mic. You can fine tune it with EQ, Compression, and limiter, or you can use the automatic control. All you have to do is let it know how close you will be to the mic in your setup and the app does the rest. My Setup I was using a boom on my desk allowing it to be close. The USB also allows for Mic Monitor so you can hear how your sounding and make sure you are 100% perfect all the time through the headphone jack on the mic. As far as sound quality goes this thing is amazing. It very rich and full. It has very good noise isolation allowing your voice so come through clean and true with no distractions. The built it pop filter it perfect for not allowing any "P" plosives. I connected it via MAC and Windows through two different DAWs and it worked effortlessly with both with the program recognizing it and using it. I have a few small issues with the mic though. The USB is Micro USB I really wish there was USB C to have greater longevity on the port and ease of plugging in. Also I was you could choose to use a separate output to be able to monitor yourself with the mic other the the mic itself. (This purpose it mostly for livestreaming or using discord while gaming so you don't loose the surround sound on gaming headsets) This all being said for the price this is the full package with zero compromise and ease of use. It's perfect whether your at home recording your next album, recording a podcast, livestreaming, or even trying to get better zoom audio. This is the mic for you!
