Plenty of violence, action, and visual stimulation in this one. A must watch for fans of the comic book genre.

The cinematography was excellent. Story was out in space. Lol! Changing the story continuously was unnecessary.

Some books are best left as books, their film adaptations can not equal the original punch as the words on the page. The graphic novels this film was made off of would probably be better (to me anyway) as a "motion comic" instead of the live action story boards they used as templates for filming. Hollywood is completely out of ideas. Perhaps that is why all these comic movies keep coming out, it's easy for Hollywood--the movie is already laid out in pictures and words.

This should've stayed as a comic book or made without actors in the physical. They tried to adapt this movie to close to its origins and failed. Don't buy it waste of money and time

One of the best comic book adaptations

First of all, if you're not a fan of violence, comic books, good acting, or interweaving storylines, please leave now and go watch The Princess Diaries. Because this movie is the polar opposite of The Princess Diaries. Lol. This movie has a lot of resemblance to Quentin Tarantino's directing style with the non-chronological order storylines that all seem to connect at some point. Quentin Tarantino also happens to make a guest direction. First of all, this movie is about 3 different stories all taking place in Sin City around the same time. First is Marv, (played fantastically by Mickey Rourke) who is an ex-convict who seems to always have trouble with the law. He, being as ugly as he is, happens to meet a beautiful "goddess" on a strange night, but she ends up getting killed while sleeping right next to her. The cops are soon on the lookout for him, but he fights them off in the bloodiest and barbaric ways. Second, Hartigan (played by Bruce Willis) is a nearly-retired veteran cop who is one of the good ones in Sin City. He helps save a little girl from a son-of-a-senator r@pist, but is then shot by his bad-cop partner (and lives). He is charged by the senator to a life sentence in prison if he doesn't confess to r@ping the poor girl he saved. He later comes out of prison to help track the girl he saved many years ago, to find poor little Nancy (played by Jessica Alba) working at a strip club. He then realizes he puts her in danger and is now on the run with her. Third, Dwight (played amazingly by Clive Owen) has a connection with the Old-Town h00ker girls - who are basically their own breed of law in their county - and uses it to help take down a, who he thinks, is a killer and an abusive boyfriend, but turns out to be a cop. This movie is brilliant in every aspect and for some it may be easy to confuse you with the interconnecting storylines that are out of order. I recommend it completely.

    One of the best graphic-novel-to-film-adaptations

Sin City created a type of graphic novel film in which the look of the film is an exact rip from the pages of the novel it is based upon. In this film, it is a very interesting experience that really adds to the story and makes the characters stand out. However, there have now been a few films that have done this (such as 300), and they are thus much less original. Sin City definitely does it best. There are three tales interwoven into this film: Marv's story, Dwight's story, and Hartigan's story, which begins at the start of the film and is concluded at the end (and is also my favorite). Marv is a brutish-looking, scarred former soldier who is mostly friendless and has little in his life. One night, he meets Goldie in a bar, and they spend tthe night together. The next morning, Marv wakes up to find Goldie dead, and that he has been framed for the murder. After evading the police, Marv goes on an all-out rampage to find her killers and avenge her death, but as it turns out, Goldie's murder goes far higher than Marv could ever have imagined. Dwight is a tough guy who just got plastic surgery altering his face and gets mixed up with the murder of Jackie Boy in Sin City's red light district, Old Town. Unfortunately, Jackie Boy turns out to be a cop, and thus Dwight must get rid of the evidence before local mob boss Valentine finds out and uses it as leverage to take over Old Town. Hartigan is an honest cop on a corrupt police force. When thirteen-year-old Nancy is kidnapped by the son of Senator Roarke, Hartigan throws away everything to save her. Framed for the crime, he spends eight years in jail. Finally, he gets a letter from Nancy that actually turns out to be a sign that she's in trouble, so he manages to get out of jail by confessing (which is all they wanted from him), and goes off to find out what's happened to the only friend he's got left. These stories are written in the style of old-schoool noirs, and it's refreshing to see a story like this done so well. The film's black and white cinematography with its occasional splashes of color work fantastiacally with this story. This is a very enjoyable film. I highly recommend it.

Great For Film Noir And Comic Fans!

If you are a fan of film noir or comics this is a great movie for you. This movie wasn't based on the Frank Miller Sin City comics, but Frank Miller himself was one of the directors. In my opinion no other comic book movie has been as loyal to its source material. This movie has several stories in it and not one of them is bad. Each of the stories is pretty violent and gritty, but they have a dark sense of humor to them too. With that said, this is an adults only movie. The plot and characters are all very interesting. The makeup that they used on Mickey Rourke to make him into his character is incredible and its puzzling how Sin City didn't get an Oscar for best makeup on that alone. This movie also has a great distinct look to it. While most of it is in black and white, there is use of color for some characters and other things the filmmakers wanted to draw attention to. This is one of the best looking Blu-Rays in my opinion and if you have an HDTV to watch this on I doubt you will disagree. The extras are excellent and really give you an idea of what went into making the movie. All three commentary tracks are worth listening to, whether you're a fan of the movie or if you have an interest in making movies. The second disc has all of the stories in the movie in their extended form and you can watch them individually. The extended content isn't much longer than the theatrical version of the movie on the first disc, but it's interesting stuff to watch. I think this is a great example of what a Blu-Ray should be. The movie looks beautiful and the sound is excellent. There aren't any throw away special features either. Everything on both of these discs is worth watching, and believe me this is a movie to keep rewatching. I highly recommend Sin City on Blu-Ray.
