I had heard a lot of bad things about Skullcandy, but I was won over by the performance of these in the store. Perhaps this is Skullcandy's exception. It's been a few weeks now and I am still satisfied with them. The sound is balanced - clear mids and the highs stand out especially. The bass is strong, but not muddy and overpowering. I use these mostly for listening to music, games, and movies on my computer. At first it took me a while to get the sound on my computer to sound as good as the ipod on "rock" equalizer setting. I figured out I had to set all the equalizer levels about one quarter of the way up the scale (instead of middle) and go from there on my PC. I increased the bass and treble a little and they sound great! I don't need to go anywhere near max bass to make them sound really deep and punchy. I actually bought the Klipsch Image Ones first, but I ended up returning those ones because of comfort issues. Compared to those, the Skullcandys offer a more balanced sound with better highs and more controlled bass. These are solid as far as comfort. The triangle ear pads look a little weird, but they fit over my ears well and the cushion has enough give to be comfortable for long periods. The pressure seems about middle of the road, certainly doesn't clamp your head down like some cans do, which is a good thing. Your ears can feel a little hot and fatigued after hours with them on, but I think that comes with the territory with just about any over-ear headphones. I never get pain from them. Most of the time you don't notice they're on. The biggest drawback I've noticed is that these headphones do not block ambient noise well. Unless you really turn the volume way up, you will hear outside noise such as people talking nearby or whatever. I took one star away mainly for this. The buttons for the volume control could've been placed better too. You can't see them because they're too far up on the cord. It's a dopey design, but I hardly ever use those buttons anyway. Overall, I recommend these unless you are looking for true noise isolation or cancellation. For me, the sound quality and comfort is enough to offset those drawbacks.

There are a lot of great features about these headphones: style, sound, the in-line mic. The only drawback for me is its comfortability. First, there's the look. These cans look really good, much better than the picture on the computer screen. It's very classy and retro. The gold trim is very cool, and the shells are see-through. I've gotten many compliments on them by many strangers, both male and female (I live in New York City, so I see lots of strangers, some stranger than others). I was in Best Buy, ready to buy the same-priced Bose AE2 headphones, when I saw these. I personally think the brown/gold is the best-looking of the trio, but the black/silver are also nice. My only complaint is that sometimes the whole thing feels a little flimsy. They are light which is great, but I hope they aren't fragile. Also, the in-line mic, as convenient as it is, looks cheap, but only when looking at it close up. Sound: Well, I was in Best Buy because I was replacing a pair of Bose AE2 that had been stolen. Sad face. I actually think these headphones sound better than the Bose. Wha?? I know. There is more bass from the Aviators, and the treble sounds less brash. Comparing them to the Dre Beats Solo, I found that the Dre Beats still had better bass. But those are more expensive and are On-Ear phones, and I wanted Around-the-Ear. The only drawback is that the cups don't block out as much as sound as the Bose do. I spend a lot of time on the subway and walking along noisy city streets. The Bose were amazing in blocking out a lot of that sound - I would sometimes wear them without any music playing, just to quiet things. The Aviators are OK. Comfort: Some reviewers say that they can wear these for hours and there's no problem. For whatever reason, my ears don't agree. They get a little sore after maybe an hour or so. Too bad. The Bose AE2 are amazingly comfortable, like little pillows for your ears. That, I think, is its best attribute. Features: Here, the Aviators excel. The in-line mic is really convenient. Bose doesn't have this. Some reviewers have said that the mic is too high on the cord. I think it's just fine. The center button on the mic (for play, pause, answer, disconnect, skip forward, backward, etc) is sometimes difficult to feel, and you might end up pressing a volume button instead. But you get used to it pretty quickly. There's also a sweet leather bag for storing your headphones. The phones fold up very nicely, though it's a bit difficult to cram into the bag, and equally difficult to get out of the bag. I get nervous every time (see fragile comment above). The Bose also fold up and come with a travel bag. So, while these aren't perfect, I haven't found a not-too-expensive pair that is perfect. I went back and forth between the Aviators and the Bose. The Bose are super comfy and great at noise-blocking. The Aviators sound very good, are very attractive, and have that helpful in-line mic. I chose sound and style. PS - wired.com and cnet.com both have decent reviews of these headphones.

You can eavesdrop on distant conversations!

I looked at these when upgrading from my Skullcandy Hesh headphones. I also looked at the Bose AE2 and the Sony Extra Bass. -- The rounded plastic cups on the Hesh and the Aviator don't mute outside sound; they collect and enhance it. If you're a Private Detective and want a good pair of headphones for eavesdropping on conversations 10 feet away, these are the ones for you!! Of course, that means to actually drown out those outside conversations you have to turn up your music that much louder, and outside noises still interfere with the quieter musical passages. But if you're really more interested in blocking outside noise and hearing just your own music at a comfortable volume level (which is why I wanted headphones) the Bose AE2 is the way to go. I can be standing 3 feet away from talking people when listening to the Bose and never hear a word they say. The Sony Extra Bass also blocks all outside noise as well as the Bose does. -- The Hesh is good for an hour or two of wear, and then I get hot spots on my ears. The Aviator is more comfortable than the Hesh. The Bose AE2 is lots more comfortable than either the Hesh or the Aviator, especially with extended wear. The Sony Extra Bass has oversized pillow pads which are great for long wear, but they do tend to sweat after a while and the lack of padding on the upper band can cause a hot spot on top of the head. -- The Hesh's 50mm drivers put out pretty good sound. The Aviator's sound is comparable to the Hesh, perhaps a little better. The Bose AE2 sound is noticably crisper and cleaner across all frequency ranges than both Skullcandy models. The Sony Extra Bass puts out some terrific bass, but you lose some of the clarity in mid and upper ranges -- The Hesh's fragile plastic components have to be handled with unexpected care. Fortunately, superglue fixed what most of what I cracked before my Hesh broke completely. The Aviator's metal framework seems more durable than the Hesh. The Bose AE2 looks less durable than the Skullcandys but it's stronger than it appears, and when handled with ordinary care the Bose is actually less likely to break than the Hesh. The Sony Extra Bass is the best of all for durability; it's designed for ham-fisted handling. -- When I tried to adjust the Hesh to sit comfortably on my head it cracked, and it only got passably comfortable at best. The Aviator is easier than the Hesh to adjust for a comfortable fit. The Bose AE2 is designed to be the easiest of all when adjusting for maximum comfort, and its lightweight feel gently hugs your head. The Sony Extra Bass' pillow pads are naturally comfortable, but the top band doesn't bend out too easily if you have a larger head. -- I rate the $50 Hesh at 3 Stars for it's lack of comfort and for the way it enahnces outside noise instead of blocking it. I considered rating the $150 Aviator one half star higher primarily because of its improved comfort over the Hesh. But at $150 the Aviator doesn't give you what you what you pay for; for that price I expected a headset that would muffle outside sound, not magnify it. I rate the Bose $150 AE2 at 4.5 stars for comfort and sound clarity. If the Bose had a more durable cord I would give it the full 5 stars. I also rate the $80 Sony Extra Bass at 4.5 stars for value, comfort and clean clear sound. If the Sony Extra Bass sound was more balanced in the upper ranges, and if the headset could fit into my PC case the way the Bose does, I would give the Sony 5 stars . Bottom line: If you're going to fork out $150 for headphones, put the Aviators down and look for something else. For $150 the Bose AE2 provides better sound, better comfort, and blocks outside noises. The Sony Extra Bass is a good value alternative. It's uglier, but the Sony only costs $80 and the sound, comfort, and durability features you get for that price are hard to beat. Ultimately I chose the Bose headset, and I haven't regretted it one bit.

went through several headphones today. I had to return another headphone i had ordered online, and decided to test out different models while i was there. I was very happy with the sound quality of the aviator, but was worried about comfort and durability, and based on all the reviews of the bose ae2's, i thought that was the way to go. well, I got as far as the parking lot before turning back and exchanging them for the aviators. the sound quality of the aviators is really nice. good bass, but not over powering. nice balance of highs and mids. just a really nice set of cans overall. they're more comfortable than the store display model, which has probably gone over a few thousand heads. very soft and plush. makes sitting at the desk working very enjoyable. overall i'm extremely happy with the purchase, and with best buys customer service.

Dislosure: I work for Best Buy, that doesn't really impact my feelings about these headphones. I saw these come in a few days ago and immediately fell in love with the style. So perfectly retro, great build quality, and surprisingly light. The materials all feel very solid, and the ear pads are super comfortable. They seal pretty well, also, blocking sound pretty well in a noisy environment. Sound wise, they have been surprisingly good. Most Skullcandy's that I've tried in the past have been VERY bass heavy, and these are actually pretty well balanced. That said, the bass is still very strong, and they do excel with rap, hip hop, and funk, and R&B. This isn't to say that they can't handle jazz, metal, techno, or really anything you can throw at them. They don't have the absolute precision that my Shure in-ears possess. The hiss that I know is present on a lot of my mp3s is much harder to notice on these than the Shures, but maybe that's not such a bad thing. In the end, though, there are definitely some headphones in this price range with better sound quality, but I'd be lying if I said that the style doesn't go a LONG way towards making up for that. Give them a listen and a look and judge for yourself! These are also available in a white/chrome with solid colored backplates, or black/chrome with translucent backplates for those that like the looks, but are looking for something a bit less obvious.

    Great headphones for the price

Bought these headphones today and was impressed with the clarity. The bass is average which is the way it should be because too much bass takes away the sound of the instruments, special sound effects or even backup singers. Went to my favorite music website to listen to music and continuously switched between these headphones and the Bose Triport; I played the same song over and over to see if I can hear the difference. The end result was that these headphones are a little bit more crisp than the Bose and also extremely loud too; I set my device to the lowest audio settings and these headphones were still loud; for those that like to listen to music really loud, then I think you can blast these headphones and blow your brains out. Pretty impressive I might add. Durability looks like it could last a long time if you don't drop them or sit on them; these are just like any high priced headphones because they are made of synthetic leather and plastic so don't expect that they won't break. I'm going to treat mines like a newborn baby. Comfort, fairly comfortable, soft ear cushions, not too tight on your head; however, long usage will make ear feel almost numb...I've had them on for a good hr now and my ears are reaching numbness. Appearance, these are so beautiful; shinny brown and gold like the inside of a luxury car. By far the classiest headset I've seen in my lifetime. I feel like a rich guy when I wear them. I tried the demo of the Beats headphones with the Boom Boom song on which where the Pros, Studios and solos. My impression of the solos are that they are garbage and if you buy them then you just wasted $200; the Studios are a little bit better in clarity and it sounds like putting your head next to a subwoofer...too much bass, so you can pay $300 or put your head next to a subwoofer if you have one and save some money; the Pros??? Wow I was confused of why they were so expensive because it sounded horrible. I think the reason the price tag is so high is because if you put the words "MONSTER" and DR.Dre together than you can slap any price on it. In summary, the Aviator Rock Nation headphones are a great value for the quality and price; although I think that they should be cheaper around $80 because it is a shame that some people can't listen to quality sould because of money.

    Better Than Beats By Far!

I spent nearly five hours at the local store testing the different headphones. These were hands-down the best looking and sounding headphones in Best Buys display line-up or anywhere really. Not even Beats topped these. I listened to the Aviators first because they caught my eye. The amazing brown and gold is a head-turner! I've gotten many compliments on them which is something I've never gotten with headphones in the past. I had seen them before I went into the store (because I am a Skullcandy addict) and liked them before I even saw them in person. I then tried them on and plugged the headphones into my iPhone and played my favorite song of all time, Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. I was immediately hooked on these amazing headphones. I bought them soon after and have barely had them off since. They are literally the best headphones I've ever used. I've used 10-15 pairs of Skullcandy headphones along with many others I listened to before listening to Skullcandy. My only complaint about these headphones is if you only have one side on your head it tends to push into your ear it is a little painful some times but after awhile you forget about it. However, if you keep both sides on they are extremely comfortable! Not only would I recommend these to a friend, but I already have. Everyone that has tried them on love them as much as I do. If you have the money and like them as much as I did before I bought them, then don't hesitate to buy these amazing headphones.

    Suavest headphones on the market

I've had these for about a month now. I chose these over any other headphone setup because Dr. Dre Beats are way too expensive and I didn't want overpowering bass like in the Beats. What I love about these headphones: 1. Great quality music -- I am a drummer and I really need to be able to hear all the different tones in the music, especially when doing drum covers of other bands music where I need to hear every part of the drumset the drummer is hitting. 2. Ridiculously comfortable -- I wear these for at least 2 hours a day while I am drumming and they don't give me any pain at all unlike my experience with Sony, Dr. Dre Beats, or even cheaper Skullcandys. 3. In-Mic Control is perfect -- 2 clicks next song, 3 clicks beginning/previous song=) 4. Super-duper Suave Lookin Headphones -- Chose this color over the others cause seriously, just look at it, classiest headphones out there. Get compliments all the time on em. 5. It's Skullcandy -- which means LIFETIME WARRANTY for full refund =) My only complaint is that I wish it was more noise cancelling than it already is but if I was that picky then I would have thrown my last paycheck away into some Bose or Beats headphones. So buy these headphones if you really want to hear some amazing music without too much bass (unless what you're looking for is big bass then this ain't for you).

I love music. All kinds. I have my preferences, of course, but I am a fan of anything music. I am very picky about reproduction and sound re-enforcement. I dissect how an album is mixed, engineered, produced... i.e., the full spectrum. I do NOT get swayed by brand names -- I close my eyes and let my ears decide what sounds best. I did this with all the headphones that I could hook up my iPod to and challenged several products. I was pleasantly surprised with this product and was further moved by the lifetime warranty. The added iPod control/mic on the cable is fantastic! I can bury the iPod in my jacket and easily mute/skip/repeat. This product easily outpaces all the others I had access to -- including the Dre beats (absolute junk!) at twice the price. Despite the questionable Aviator look, this product is five stars. Great work, Skullcandy.

These are amazingly comortable. They have great sound quality and with the mic'd 3 they are untouchable by other similar headphones. Bringing Real Headphones to the common man

As the title says, this headphone brings real sound quality to the common man. In my opinion, this is the best sound to style ratio. My only beef was that I had to mod the headphones to fit my head (allow the cups to come down more) and they also leak/don't isolate well. Of course I remedied it all with a mod and now I have some surprisingly spectacular closed back headphones. Lightweight, comfortable, stylish, great sound (not to be mistaken with benchmark sound). On a final note, Bassheads beware, the bass is not thumping. But what it lacks in volume it makes up in articulate bass. Just EQ the bass to achieve a somewhat neutral tone that is 100x more articulate than Beats. Check "Innerfidelity" for consistant recommendations of this headphone.

I'll try to keep this short. These headphones are an amazing deal for the price. The sound quality is incredible, the bass is strong and pumpin' and doesn't overshadow the main instruments and vocals. They are great for games and movies as well, as the amazing sound quality sharpens every sound. The only qualm I have about them is that after a while they get really uncomfortable. Perhaps it's just because I have big ears, I dunno, but I've found a way around that, so I don't know how any of you would handle it, but still important to know. So overall, a great buy and you most definitely will not be disappointed.

Not Bad, But You Can Do Better For The Money!

So, I had a chance to compare these to several other pairs of headphones before making my purchase. These headphones, first and foremost, definitely have some style. The old aviator look sticks out among all of the other phones. However, style will only get you so far. Upon further inspection, you can see just how fragile these might actually be. Both headphones are connected by a simple two-bar, one wire setup that allows them to move about very easily. Yet, put them in your hand and play with them a bit, and you can tell that these are one drop away from a great looking broken pair of headphones that you shelled $150 out on. Now, along with the style, Skull Candy does throw in some HUGE drivers that produce loud and quality sound. The MAJOR downfall here, though, is that covering these drivers from the outside world is one small plastic see-through cap. For a test, put them on and have someone speak to you. You will pick up everything. Though, the style and power are there, these headphones are fragile. If you travel a lot, you will be blasting these headphone and wasting your battery to hear your music. For the money, I would strongly recommend the new Klipsch Image Ones for superior sound quality and noise cancellation. Although, some people are all about style.

I bought these after listening to the demo machine which let me hear Pop, Rock&Roll, Classical and Dubstep. Each were clear and the bass didn't overpower the vocals in the dubsteb. What surprised me was that the bass remained powerful, but complimented the vocals completely. I love the design as well. Fashionable, but functional at the same time. My one complaint is that there is some sound bleed at higher volumes. My entire math class could hear what I was listening to during the test. If I had been listening to Bieber, I may not have made it out of there alive lol

I use them often and love them! They have an inline mic and music control option that Beats studio do not have. This super cool feature allows you to change the song, pause the song, go back to the previous song and of course raise and lower your volume. At no point do i have to go back to my iPod which is fantastic. I have had both beats, solo and studio and these are much more useful for much less price.
