Unbeatable for the price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the design of the earbuds and aesthetically they look really good with the black not standing out as much as other brands having a white color. The embossed ‘L’ and ‘R’ are almost impossible to see at a glance. In fairness to Skullcandy many brands are like this. It is just a little irritating to not be able to see left and right more prominently marked. I find that easier than memorizing the shape or angle to determine which ear it goes into. Had a little trouble pairing initially with my iPhone. Followed the quick start guide by removing earbuds from the case which automatically puts them in pairing mode. The problem was that only one side would pair, and both left and right would show up in the list of Bluetooth devices. I could alternately pair to one or the other, but both would not play. Having no idea what the charge level was for the earbuds (they both showed red when in the case) I decided to put them back in the case which had a 3 of 4 charge level on the LED readout. I plugged in the case to USB power and left the earbuds in until the case was fully charged, and I assume the earbuds would both have a sufficient charge. I then took them out and went through the pairing process again and this time after pairing to the single “Indy Evo” in the Bluetooth device list both earbuds were connected. I also paired with my MS Surface and had no issues. Fit was almost perfect out of the box, but I did need to swap out the stability ear gels for the smaller size because my one ear was a little too small for the larger ones. Once I did that fit was amazing and among the best for earbuds I have used. The are snug without being uncomfortable and do not budge even when working out. Sound quality is rather good with a variety of types of music that I listened to. If you are looking for deep base though you might be a little disappointed. Made a few sample calls and voice quality is good for phone conversations and mic produces good sound on the other end. Not sure what the desired effect is with Ambient mode is. I can’t hear much of a difference and there is no explanation in the documentation. With the EQ mode there is a discernible difference for podcast mode as the mid-range is enhanced and highs & lows are tuned down. The controls were a bit intimidating at first with different number of taps in combination with tap & hold for different operations. I still find myself having to refer to the cheat sheet at times to remember the right gesture to use for an operation. It is also easy to accidentally register a tap when adjusting or removing an earbud. I’ve found that handling them by the long straight section helps to avoid this. Another tip, if you accidentally invoke your devices assistant tap 3 times to get out of the assistant mode. The integration with Tile is pretty cool as well. I downloaded the app, registered, and tried the location feature out. Very handy if you can’t find an earbud or two. I downloaded the Skullcandy app. It doesn’t really add any additional control features but offers a quick registration of your device and has a handy online guide to help remember all of the crazy control operations.
