My home has 6 MB DSL service and the vacation home had 18 MB cable. The Slingbox is connected via the ethernet cable. Any time I would attempt to watch programs on my laptop, the video would have a distracting strobe effect like an old fashioned projector. While attempting to view content from the iOS app, the strobe effect was gone but it would all too often hang, freeze, or disconnect all together.

However, if you've put together your own service, including a DVR, it may have benefit. I found the installation instructions to be needlessly complicated: one needs to use hdmi and component connections. I returned this item as it duplicated my existing service.

Posted .Slingbox does not have any monthly subscriptions. Sling even took away the $15 app fee so accessing your TV is even easier!
