The best thing since tv
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 3rd upgrade of sling boxes and they only continue to get better features. I still use my first plain sling box from 2004, but they have come so far. I use it with my phone and computer, especially at hotels that have no movie channels. I pair it with my wireless computer device and I have my satellite tv from home on the hotel screen.

Great product, inconsistent app
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm from the New England area and I just moved to florida for grad school . I bought the slingbox so I could watch my local News and Sports stations. For what the slingbox is advertised as it works amazing I am able to watch all my favorite teams from out of the Market without having to buy an extra sports package. I left it on a cablebox that is unused in my parents home so there are no issues. The only qualm I have is with the app itself which is frustrating to use at time and seems like it has not been updated in a very long time.

Watch Your Cable Anywhere!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the Slingbox HD and have not regretted getting it. The installation is straightforward and the on screen display is intuitive and easy to navigate through the setup process. Connecting it up was a breeze and all necessary cables are included, so there's no running back to the store to get cables. Video streaming is great, but can be jittery or even freeze when on 3G cellular. Broadband/WiFi video is great. I do like how the software optimizes the video quality based on the type of service throughput you're getting. If you leave the quality option on "auto" it will give you SD on lower bandwidth and HD on higher. Nice feature. There isn't really any glaring negatives about the Slingbox 500. A few minor items are one, at $299, it's a bit pricey, but obviously not so high that I didn't buy it. :) ; 2. The fact that you have to buy the software for Android or iDevices, for the price you pay for the unit, is rediculous. Normal prce for each platform is $29.95. They did have a 50% off sale during the holidays though. But for those with multiple platforms, be prepared to pay some extra cash, which raises the already pricey sum up even more; 3. The Slingbox 500 is an "odd looking duck". I've never seen a design like this. Fortunately it sits on top of my Blue Ray player, so it's quirky design is not a major issue. It's just a little strange looking at first take. Overall, I'm very pleased with the Slingbox 500's performance and capabilities. It's definitely a device I would recommend for anyone that want's to take their cable TV on the road with them.

Product works
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Call customer service to connect product. Older sling boxes are much easier to connect. Also you cant use hdmi with certian cable serv. You may have to use component cables. Product functions very well. Esp. When using mobile device

Is kinda pointless without cable or satellite tv.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hoping to be able to watch extra things and learned quickly that unless you have a cable or satellite provider, it is kinda pointless. All of the features and connectivity options were great. Just not what I truly needed.

Great product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If your away, you can always count on the sling box to give you up to date news, sports or any tv program your home, cable or satalitte tv provider offers. Other than the extra charge for the application, it's a reliable product.

Cool product to reduce tv programming costs
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to leave home during the work week but was tired of paying exorbitant bills for television programming. The product works well but only one person can control your device at a time. I was led to believe by the salesperson that a person at home could be viewing one thing while I was viewing another remotely. That is not the case because only one person can be controlling the device at time. Overall, it's a good product.

Nice Benefit, but there are set-up issues
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Happy that a company finally offers a solution to watch my TV and use my cable box over Wi-Fi when traveling Internationally. Unfortunately set-up took hours and quite a bit of frustration with AT&T U-Verse. Evidently, if you follow the instructions to use both component video and HDMI, the input keeps jumping / unsetting when you turn the cable box on and off. HDMI doesn't work, which is a negative. Component does if you no hook up HDMI as well. Nothing in the instructions on this and actually goes against the instructions. In addition, even when Wi-Fi is strong in my home, I have to cut down player video quality to reduce lag.

Good for what I wanted it for

Great product!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this and hooked it up to our cable service/box in our American home so we could watch American television when we were traveling to our other home in Abu Dhabi. After it's hooked up, your home remote control appears on the screen so you can operate your television by using the exact remote you're used to at home. It's a virtual remote, of course, but you literally change the channel using the up/down buttons on that virtual remote on the screen. We've hooked it up to our laptops as well as our home computer in Abu Dhabi, which has a 42-inch screen monitor, which is great for TV-viewing using a computer. You can DVR/TiVO shows just as you would if you were home. So far, this has been a great product. Would highly recommend it.

I returned it for the 350 model
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The only reason anyone would buy the 500 instead of the 350 is to connect to the internet via WiFi. The 500 has an HDMI connection, but Slingbox recommends connecting with a component cable which you can do with the 350. I would advise anyone to save $150 and buy the 350 instead of the 500.

Good but not great value for money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did quite a bit of research about remote viewing because we switched to a different tv provider that has limited remote viewing of some of the programs we love to watch. We narrowed down to Sling. After multiple personal and customer support troubleshooting, we finally got it to work. However, it is hit and miss to use outside of the house where it is most needed even though Internet connection is in excess of 10mbps download and 7mbps upload. For such a pricey app (over $300 for the hardware and $28 each for the iOS app...yes $14 each for iPad and iPhone...I expect more from this.

Best $300 bucks I've ever spent!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased slingbox after hearing two friends talk about it. It sounded almost too good to be true but once I started using it I was hooked. I travel a lot and like to stay up to date on my favorite shows (Shameless, Californication, Walking Dead, etc). Have traveled within the last month and have utilized it to watch the NBA Playoffs, SHOWTIME, HBO, NFL NETWORK and utilized it to watch shows I recorded via DVR....I even watched some of the shows on my Samsung Galaxy. In the event you have some downtime you can simply log onto the system via your cell phone and watch a quick episode of your favorite program or tune into the local or national news. This thing works great. The only downside to watching it on your phone is the fact you have to pay $15 bucks to install it, which may feel like a punch in the gut after already spending 300 bucks, but trust me you get over it. Also, if you don't want to spend the 300 bucks for the top of the line slingbox, you can splurge for the lower end model which is not a put down at all; it does the same thing but it just has to be connected and is not wireless. OVERALL, DARN GOOD PRODUCT!!
