    Geek Squad could not install Nest thermostat.

    I purchased a Nest learning thermostat and it was supposed to be installed by Best Buy on April 30th. Two geek squad employees came by to install it, but they did not know what they were doing as they were not familiar with the unit. They asked me to download the wrong app and when there was an issue with the app, they could not come up with an alternative way to complete the install. They also did not have the necessary tools such as wire stripper and drywall screws to finish up the install properly. In other words, it was a waste of my and their time. They took the thermostat and left. The employee did not take the proper steps after the appointment failed. As of today, May 3rd, the system still shows the thermostat in transit and I am not able to arrange another install by a more capable installer or get a refund. I called the concierge yesterday to follow up and they escalated the issue. So far, it is an unpleasant experience.

    Geek Squad saved the day

    We had several third party technicians attempt to install this thermostat. After several calls and lots of frustration, Best Buy sent out a Geek Squad rep and he managed to figure out the issue and finish what all the others couldn't do. Thank you

    My thermostat was reconfigured I did not require a new one. The repair man from the Geek Squad was very knowable and quick, Gave instructions if problem happened again. This had occurred after a power outage. Thank you

    Geek Squad does not install Smart Thermostats.

    The Geek Squad does not install Smart Thermostat, so they have a third party do the installation. The installer showed up and instated the Smart Thermostat and told us the system will need to charge for at least 15 minutes, he did not say how it will charge. We waited over an hour and it still was not charged. We called Google and they reviewed the wiring of the thermostat and realized it was wired incorrectly. We corrected the wiring our self. The Google rep also told us that it needed to be charged on a computer for at least 15 minutes. We found a charger and charged it for at least an hour. It still would not work so we called back to Google and found out that it was defective. We were wiring our original thermostat at 11 pm on a cold night. I was trying to prevent this with a licensed installer, but that did not happen.

    The agent was prompt and he took a little extra time to ensure the thermostat was charged enough to complete the install. He exemplifies the best of Geek Squad and their services.

    The agent installed my Honeywell smart thermostat. He was excellent, taking the time to walk me through the programming process and answering all my questions. I would highly recommend him.

    Four Attempts to be Told I May Have to Pay More

    I was very frustrated with the actual process of setting up an installation appointment. My first mistake was calling my local store (SUCH an idiot!) to be bounced around then disconnected. I called back and was given the 800 number. First attempt to go through the cumbersome automated system connected me to the wrong department. I was told I would be transferred and I requested a direct number. I was told "unfortunately" there was no direct number, but I was assured I would be connected. Disconnected again. Fourth call I fervently pressed "0" to talk to a person. Finally reached a person to schedule an appointment no fewer than 11 days out including weekend days. I was asked to pay the $99 installation fee ahead of time and asked if there would be any more charges. Tech stated that even though unlikely, there is a chance the installation tech could deem an additional labor charge if he/she saw fit. I did not feel comfortable paying in advance for a service that was over a week away and not guaranteed that would be the final price. The entire process has driven me to find another option.

We never want to promise there will not be any additional labor costs before actually checking out the home where it will be installed.     Completely Dissatisfied

    I purchased this package to install a new smart thermostat in my home. The third-party installer missed two separate installation dates/arrival windows, and did not reach out on either occasion. The first time, I didn’t find out until I called Best Buy and the third party installer that my appointment had been ‘rescheduled’ without my knowledge. I picked a new date, and called every hour of my arrival window and asked for an update. Each time I was told that the tech couldn’t be reached but that he/she had been left messages to call me directly. I received no calls and no one bothered to show up. When I called at the end of my second missed appointment window, the only remediation offered was to reschedule for a third time. I told them I would reschedule if I could be given the first appointment spot of the day (so as to avoid the possibility of being stuck behind other appointments), but no such promises could be made. Since they (both Best Buy and their third-party installler) were unable offer an explanation or a reason for the no-shows, and since I couldn’t afford to miss another 5 hours of work, my only other option was to ask for a refund. Wholly unprofessional.

Smart Home products like thermostats should be exciting so it’s disheartening that your installation did not go as we would hope. I know I believe my time is valuable as well, so understand why missed appointments wouldn’t sit well with you.     Very disappointed in the experience I had with the Mastec team Best Buy outsourced the installation of my thermostat to. The tech came and attempted to install it. He was there several hours but was not able to get it to sync up. Turns out when he replaced the unit, he forgot to turn off the power and it blew a fuse on the HVAC unit. The tech left us without A/C overnight in the Florida heat. I was told I had to contact an HVAC tech and Mastec would reimburse me. I have yet to be reimbursed. I have made contact several times with the tech and his supervisor with no responses.

    I ordered the Thermostat Installation service online and they gave me a window between 12-4PM for the next day. I waited for hours and around 3PM I got an automated call that I needed to call Best Buy to check the status of the installation. After 30 mins waiting on the line I spoke to someone (very rude person) to find out that they wanted to reschedule my appointment for another date/time. WHY would you wait until the last minute, if you find out in the morning you have too many appointments during the day you should tell your customer IMMEDIATELY and someone call and email the customer explaining the situation, you wasted my time. I would definitely not recommend this service and company at all, they lack in coordination, customer service and professionalism. They're a joke.

    Incompetent installers and contractors

    Two experiences with their installation services: both very poor. I bought a gas stove from them installation included. After months of delay, the appointment was scheduled, the technician comes out, starts to work and then says he doesn’t have enough time. He is running behind. This job will take extra time. No planning on their part. They don’t call to reschedule. The third party contractor that Best Buy works with is very unprofessional. Second time, scheduled them to install ecobee. The thermostat comes with parts to install if you don’t have a C-wire. The technician comes out and says he can’t install it. Could they not have checked/asked or warned at the time of scheduling the appointment? Needless to say, I wouldn’t recommend their membership. It’s a waste of money.
