Awesome drone for beginners. This kit has almost everything you need. In the box you will get a nice protective carry case, 2 batteries, a remote control, the drone, the quick start guide and manual, a charging cable, and extra propellers. To get started you will want to charge both batteries. They don’t take too long to charge and once fully charged you may get 10-15 min max use time out of each battery. You will need to provide your own AAA batteries for the remote control and you will likely want to provide your own microsd card (up to 64GB) to capture 1080p video during flight. It will send images to your phone but those will only be 720p. While the batteries are charging, I would suggest using this time to become familiar with the remote control and the features of the drone. Not only will it fly up and down, and spin side to side, but you have some special features you can control from the remote control like circle flight and 3D flip. It is a solid drone but small compared to some of the more expensive models. It will be affected by wind outside. I would suggest starting in a wide open space and do not take it very far off the ground until you become more comfortable controlling it. I found it a little difficult to keep it hovering in one place, the wind kept wanting to move it. I really like the remote control. It has a lot of good features. For one, it has fold out hand rests that help you grip the controller more like a gaming controller. This made me feel more secure holding it especially when my iPhone 13 Pro Max was secured to the top of it. You have buttons that allow you to move the samer up and down during flight. You can initiate the 3D Flip and the circle flight from the controller and there is even an emergency stop button. As for the circle flight and the 3D flip. Due to the wind I was not overly successful in navigating the circle flight. It wanted to move around me but the wind kept pushing it sideways. I also notice as soon as I initiate a 3D flip, the wind really affects it and begins moving it. I noticed it struggles to move BACKWARDS into the wind. I would need to spin it so it was sideways to the wind or forward to the wind and then I had better luck moving it back into the wind toi get it back to my starting position. The camera is good, there is no sound though. NOt sure that is an issue simply mentioning it here. I did notice there is a lot of jumping around in the recording. I wish it had better image stabilization so the video was more smooth. I could initiate the start and stop of recoding from the touch interface on my phone or there are dedicated buttons on the remote control as well. All in all this is a really good beginner drone. A few items could be improved upon like better image stabilization. Not sure what the 3D flip is for other than a “cool” to see feature. If you are recording when it flips you basically don't get any video it is too fast for the camera to capture anything of use. But it is fun to watch it flip.

Inexpensive drone that''s fun to fly

The Snaptain S5C Elite drone is definitely a drone aimed at beginners, but it offers lots of nice features at an affordable entry level price. For starters, it comes with two batteries which provide up to about 30 minutes of flying time. It’s packed in a nice compact zippered carrying case with room for the drone, controller, batteries, etc. The batteries charge using a standard USB-C cable that is included, but you will need to have a power delivery wall plug with USB-A connector or just use your own cables from other devices around the house. Best Buy mentions the drone is also supplied with 2 landing skids and protective propeller guards, but none were included, and the unboxing video from Snaptain didn’t show those items either. Prepping for Takeoff and First Flight: I highly recommend reading the instruction booklet thoroughly from cover to cover before your first flight to familiarize yourself with all controls and features of the drone. Once you’re in the air, things can happen fast and that’s not the time to search the manual. You really need to be thinking about two or three steps ahead as you maneuver any drone for that matter. Controls are intuitive and logically arranged on the controller. My iPhone 12 Pro Max fit the controller easily and felt safe with enough tension to hold it securely. I had no issues whatsoever connecting my phone via WiFi to the controller. More expensive drones from Snaptain have rechargeable batteries in their controllers, but the S5C requires 3 AA batteries (not included). Once both devices (drone and controller) are powered on, takeoff is a simple as pressing and holding a button for about 3 seconds and the drone will activate the propellers and lift off the ground to about eye level height. The first thing that surprised me was how quiet the drone is. I have some experience flying a drone and larger drones tend to be much louder which unfortunately can draw unwanted attention. That’s not the case with the S5C…it’s pretty much whisper quiet. There are two speed settings and I found setting 1 to be plenty fast and saw no reason to go faster. Landing: Landing is as simple as taking off…just press and hold the same takeoff button for about three seconds and the drone will safely drop to the ground with a gentle touchdown. My first flight was in the morning under calm conditions and the drone flew perfectly, but struggled landing in fairly short grass with the blades “mowing the lawn”. I recommend landing on a hard surface which seems counterintuitive. My second flight involved more breezy conditions and it was a bit more challenging. I suspect operator error but the drone did take off on me, but I was able to quickly land it in the street and fortunately no cars were around. As I mentioned earlier, things happen fast and familiarity with the controls is essential to safe flight. This happened a second time in the same breezy conditions and this time caused some minor propeller damage. Fortunately, the S5C Elite comes with spare props, although I am unsure about where to get more as the Snaptain website didn’t show any for the S5C Elite. Hopefully that’s something that will be included on their website soon. Photos and Video: The onboard camera takes photos with 1920x1080 pixel resolution in jpeg format. Files sizes on the micro-SD card were just over 2 megapixels. Videos are saved as .mp4 files and file size of a 15-second video was around 7MB. Not surprising, there is no stabilization and videos are shaky in any kind of wind. Camera controls are simple and easy to operate. The photos and video are also stored on your phone for easy access, and you don’t really need a memory card. Overall impression: If you are looking for a drone that is inexpensive and easy to fly, the S5C Elite fills the niche nicely. Snaptain has assembled a complete drone kit that is perfect for beginners or even someone experienced in flying drone who just want a drone to play around with and not worry about crashing a more expensive drone. Of course there are drones out there with GPS tracking, collision avoidance, camera following, etc., but those come at a cost and the Snaptain S5C Elite will get you up in the air with the best of them still offer the thrill and excitement of flying a drone for a lot less money.

    Fun, high-quality, entry-level drone

The Snaptain - S5C Elite 1080p Drone is a high-quality, entry-level drone that is a whole lot of fun to play with. This has been my first experience flying any sort of drone and to be honest, I was a little nervous before my first flight. I was worried there was going to be too much of a learning curve to start enjoying the drone right away and I was afraid I might crash the drone and damage it before really getting a feel for it, but my worries quickly dissipated as soon as I tested it out for the first time. Since this is my first experience with any sort of drone, I don’t know if this particular feature is customary with most drones, but the biggest thing that made flying the S5C Elite so much easier is the single button on the remote control that can be used for taking off and landing. It removes all the guesswork and having to judge how fast you are approaching the ground for a landing which is one of the things I was most worried about because I certainly didn’t want to risk landing too hard and damaging the drone. This button takes all of those worries away and makes it incredibly easy to take-off and land without any problems. One of the other really cool things I like about the S5C Elite is the fact that it comes with two rechargeable batteries. Each battery provides about 15 minutes of flight time which I think is a very decent amount of time. The S5C Elite also has a built-in 1080P FHD camera which adds another level of enjoyment to flying the drone around and makes it so you can record all sorts of things from a new and unique vantage point. It comes packaged in a nice protective case and folds into a more compact configuration for storage and transportation purposes inside the case. Included in the package are extra propellers, screws, and a mini screwdriver for when it comes time to replace the propellers. This is a very nice addition which ensures you will be able to enjoy the S5C Elite for a long time. Overall, the Snaptain - S5C Elite 1080p Drone is a great entry-level drone that is a lot of fun to play and experiment with and I highly recommend it!

I wanted to start off by saying this is the very first drone I have owned. I have always wanted one but I didn't want to spend a lot of money in case I was not interested. So setting up the app and pairing was not bad, note that I did have to shut off my phone's celluar signal to pair via WiFi, no biggie. I like the carrying case that this comes with. It fits nicely in my backpack with my digital camera. I was able to take and hover with no issues, with cheap drones from China that I've tried in the past, I would never even get them to take off. The liftoff button is key here. I had a lot of fun learning to fly this before I even tried to take pictures and record video. This is a fun learning process. This drone is also very durable, I crashed into my house and cars a couple times and it is still intact. Note that you can put a SD card in this drone, but without it the pictures will be saved to your phone. The SD card is a nice option. I give this five stars and I recommend this drone to all beginners, it is easy to use and a great introduction to drones.

I found S5C during Father's Day deal and believe me, it is a great deal for a low-cost drone. It's easy to use, even for beginners like my husband, but has many features that you usually find in costly drones. It can fly high and take great videos with its superb camera. The package had a travel case, two batteries, charger, spare propellers, and manual book. The drone folds up small, so you can easily carry it in a bag. The controller is simple and has all the needed controls, including tilting the camera for better viewing. Flying the drone is easy and fun. The drone is small and lightweight. It’s stable and responds well to controller. It’s durable, surviving crashes, and is a joy to fly. It's a fantastic entry-level drone that’s fun and easy to use.

After unboxing the s5c elite, i realized it has been made well. Sturdy legs and nice prop arms both stro g and forgiving at the same time. This drone was very easy to fly and learn from, beginners in flight would excel with learning to fly a drone with this item. The only thing i note bad is the wind rating is way off. I contacyed snaptain and they sent me a email saying to fly this drone only when there is no wind outside or stay indoors. I dont u derstand why anyone would buy a fpv drone and stay inside with it. Thats crazy!! Overall good drone, just pay attention to what blades come from which motor cause it will not fly at all with just 1 of the 8 props being in the wrong spot. Their customer service is next to none. Annie the snaptain rep was very nive and informational. Good luck and happy flying everyone.

First of all, I am a total novice at drones, so if it sounds like I am either amazed or confused by something, it probably is coming across correctly!!! Since this is the first drone I have had, I was pretty impressed by the ease it involved to fly it. As a kid, I had a bunch of different Cox-engined cars, airplanes and a (short-lived) helicopter. I have very find memories of those and even have an engine still in a box I salvaged from one of the long-destroyed vehicles. The joy of running those flooded back when I fired up this drone! I was almost instantly flying it back and forth, up and down and trying to see how responsive the little thing is. I was not disappointed, it was almost immediately apparent that drones are pretty intuitive, even for an "old guy" to fly. I began pushing it to see what the limits are, and soon found that once it is above the tree line, the wind really starts making things more interesting! I barely was able to get it back to where I could recover it and grounded it as soon as I could to see if I had damaged it in the furious attempt to get it back without hanging in the tree tops like my old balsa wood airplanes always seemed to do so well. Despite having hit a few branches while in flight and then coming down through a small fruit tree, it is absolutely in one piece - probably thanks to the lightweight construction and flexible props on the rotors. The video is fairly good as well, and I look forward to getting it out on a big field and putting it through a more in-depth test to really find out its limits (on a calm day). So, wind is the enemy of small (probably all) drones, but control and ease of use are definitely a strong suite of this little machine. I kept the template over the buttons, mainly so I can remind myself of all of the functions when I pull it out of the nice zippered and padded case it comes in. I also like the extra battery they include and like how it all fits in cutout pockets in the case for easily verifying I have everything back before putting it away. The phone app seems to work pretty well, allowing a "first-person" view of what is happening from the drone. I snapped a few pictures and they look pretty decent however, better than I expected! Given its size and price, I am very happy with it and can see that it would be very good in a large gym or field on a calm day. I'm looking forward to using it with my grandkids and teaching them how to fly it and have fun with these kind of "toys"!

Some Good Design But With Unsatisfying Performance

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Snaptain’s S5C Elite drone is an inexpensive drone that is well-constructed – but it has performance issues that would keep me from recommending it to anyone. Out of the box, the drone comes in a well-padded case complete with extra propellers (enough to replace all the propellers on the drone) and a second battery. The design of the drone definitely benefits from design elements of *ahem* more expensive professional drones. The controller fits very well in the hands and all controls are intuitive – images from the drone are displayed on your phone via the associated Snaptain app. Note: the clip which holds your smartphone wouldn’t support the weight of my large smartphone and so I had to use the drone with the display, unsupported, reclining all the way back. The batteries charge directly with USB-C and I like that there is no indirect charging mechanism. Each battery is fully enclosed with a USB-C charging port. Having a second battery with you allows for a useful total time of interaction (20+ actual minutes overall). Not included in the box are a memory card and the three AAA batteries that are required to power the controller. Control of the drone is done directly between the controller and the drone – and as such, this radio-controlled drone needs to have perfect connection to the controller. And Snaptain’s implementation of this is fraught with problems. Use of the drone will require almost perfect visual proximity to the drone. Although the specifications for the drone suggest that the drone is capable of a maximum flight height of 164’ with a maximum flight distance of 328’, I found that drone operation became extremely erratic whenever the drone was more than about 50’ from the controller. By erratic, I mean that as soon as the drone was even short distances from me, the reaction time to my commands was on a delay and the drone tended to drift on its own when there was no physical interaction on the controller. So my own interactions with this drone suggests the following caveats: never fly the drone over water, never fly the drone over a tree or bush or house or shed, only fly the drone in a fully open space like a field or park, & never allow the drone to drift out of direct sight (and sound). The drifting problem with this drone should be the ultimate deal breaker. This is not so much an entry-level drone as an annoying toy with delusions of grandeur. Much better drones are dropping in price so maybe take a look at what else is available right now.

Exceptional High Quality Drone at a Great Price!

This drone is practically perfect—for the price, the quality, for everything. I previously bought my son a drone at a similar price point (actually it was slightly more expensive but definitely not the top-tier super expensive kind); this is worlds better. It is super easy to set up and super easy to learn how to navigate. It comes with an extra rechargeable battery for the drone which really comes in handy as a ready-to-go spare; also included are spare propellers and a USB cable to charge the batteries. The phone holder mount easily holds my iPhone 15 Pro Max that has a bulky case surrounding it; it is a good tight fit so I don’t worry at all about it sliding out or anything. All the parts—the drone itself, the remote, the two rechargeable batteries, the instruction booklets, the USB cable, and more can all be stowed quickly and effortlessly into the included case. The drone’s arms fold in so that it can be snugly tucked into a foam insert in the storage case which has cutouts specifically designed for the drone, batteries and remote. The only items not included that you will have to supply are 3 AAA batteries for the remote, an adapter for the USB cable to charge the drone’s batteries, and an up to 64GB microSD card. However, you do not need the microSD card to operate the drone. Actually operating the drone is a breeze; the controls on the remote are easy to understand and it took almost no time at all to learn how to fly it. My son and I had so much fun flying it around outside our house, seeing over our roof and having a bird’s eye view of our neighborhood and surrounding areas. The response time between the remote and the drone is instantaneous. The picture and video quality are really quite good. I am honestly surprised and almost shocked at how good this drone is at this price point. This is a definite recommendation and a definite 5/5 stars!

I've never owned or flown a drone before, but the Snaptain S5C Elite is a lot of fun and made my entry into drone flight a smooth one. I would recommend this for anyone wondering if they'd like using a drone and taking drone shots. What's good: +Ease of use: the drone boots up easily, has videogame-like controller and has buttons to automatically take off and land. The controller also comes with an overlay that describes what all the buttons do. The buttons can be activated through this if you really need, but i'm not sure that's intended +Controller: as said before, it's videogame-like and will likely feel very familiar to most users. It also has a bracket that holds your phone, which shows what your drone camera sees. +Camera: the quality is solid for such a little thing and it's easy to use via the controller and app. Don't expect to shoot Marvel movie worthy shots on it, but it'll do the job. +Packaging: comes with a case with foam inserts so your drone is always protected and always portable. +App: very easy to use and intuitive. +Value: great price for an entry level drone. Allows you to try the hobby without sinking hundreds or thousands in. What's not so great: -Flight time: each battery gives you about 15 minutes of flight time. I'm not sure what's standard in drones, but it just seems awfully brief. -Flight assists: this will get carried by the wind as there's nothing built in to compensate. Understandable at this price point, but just be aware you need good conditions to fly. All in all, a fun gadget to enjoy on a nice day.

Drones have really come a long way. We knew that with fancy military drones and professional models. But the Snaptain S5C Elite Drone is a beginner drone that is pretty freaking cool. Years ago my parents got a different starter drone (totally different brand) that just flew away, couldn’t be controlled, and got stuck in a huge tree. But now you can get the snaptain for under $100 and it’s so much fun! Seriously, the price point is incredibly reasonable for the quality and features you get. It’s a fantastic value for those who want to dip their toes into drone flying without breaking the bank. The build quality is sturdy, and the design is sleek, making it feel like a much more expensive drone. The user-friendly controls are perfect for beginners. Plus I love that it comes with an actual controller and you don’t have to use your phone. I find it so much easier and user friendly to have actual controls versus using the touchscreen on your phone. The drone’s camera quality isn’t stupendous but I don’t think this is the drone you go for if you’re expecting the best camera/video. It’s in line with the price range, so go in with reasonable expectations and I think you’ll be happy. Battery life is decent. Depending on wind, you get around 10-15 minutes of flight time. Again, I’d consider that right in line with the price point. Overall, the Snaptain S5C Elite Drone is a perfect starter drone. It combines affordability, ease of use, and impressive features, making it an excellent choice for beginners.

    Really nice and cheap

The Snaptain S5C Elite its cute but at the same time had the same vision as a professional drone. very cheap, it has good features and is a nice introduction into higher end devices. The case is pretty solid, with cutouts for all the accessories. There are two batteries that charge with USB C directly and a second set of blades included. Screwdriver is included as well to swap blades as well as open up the remote to add batteries. This isn't rechargeable as well; it takes a few AAA batteries. The remote is pretty light and cheap feeling, so when you clip your phone to it, it will be very top heavy and want to lean back on you. There are many controls and a nice template overlay to see what's what. Pairing is pretty simple, just turn on the drone open your phone and then connect to the Snaptain Wifi that it. Once it's that done, you open the app and can see the feed. You need practice to fly the drome. The controller has some built in buttons that help you get wide shots, trick flips and quick launch. Battery is decent, but long enough. Really good camera is better than expected.

Picked this up for my son. He is 11 and always wants to fly my drone! This unit is a nice budget unit. It flies nice albeit a little wobbly but for the price, its good. Its very light weight so can be pushed around in moderate wind. I let him set everything up. He got the app installed and got it all plugged in. Although he couldn't get the phone/app to work. But otherwise was able to visually fly the drone with the controller. Really love the included template with the controller. While I was familiar with the controls from my drones. This was all new to him! Specifically the 1 button take off/ land function. Overall it all works well. I do like the small case for storage as well. But there are a couple of things. 1. Battery - there are 2 - but they only include the cable. They will not charge on my Phone fast charger. Had to find an older slower charger. Not a big deal but kinda frustrating to have to remember. 2. App setup - he was able to get the app and setup on his phone. But we missed the part about connecting it to wifi. Which is different from all our other drones. Once we read the manual we were able to successfully connect. It worked pretty well. But can be a difficult process for a younger pilot. 3. build is mostly plastic. So not sure about long term durability. He did fly it into the wall a couple times on his first few flights LOL - but did not sustain any noticable damage. My first unit received had an issue with the armature. I reached out to the vendor and they quickly replied and got me a return label and shipped me a new unit.
