Loving My First Drone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m still learning how to properly fly my new Vantop-Snaptain SP680 Drone that I received several days ago. My brain is slowly starting to get it, but the journey has been a lot of fun! Set up and assembly was fairly quick and easy. I plugged in the batteries and let them charge for my first flight. The app and camera are easy to use. This isn’t going to produce ultra smooth and sharp drone videos, but it’s good enough for a relatively inexpensive and fun entry into the world of drone recording. There is a clip for attaching your phone to the remote control to allow you to easily follow your camera feed. I would definitely start off (if you are total beginner like me) trying to fly on day where the wind is calm. The unite is light but still feels durable. This drone has been a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to taking it out into nature next week and really give it a test and see if I can improve my piloting skills! If you have been thinking about getting drone with a camera I think this model is a wonderful entry. It is fairly inexpensive with a variety of features. If I knew someone looking for their first drone at an affordable price point, I would absolutely recommend this model to a friend.

Tricky but fun

One corner was damaged, including the Styrofoam holder, but the drone itself and the components did not appear to be damaged. It comes with Extra blades and a screwdriver which is convenient. The instructions were easy to follow. The screws that hold in the blade protectors are very small so make sure you don't drop them. It also comes with 3 drone batteries and two chargers to extend flight time. The battery holder on the drone is very cheaply made and difficult to get back in without fumbling with the wires. The specifications reveal the height limit (80 meters), but not radius, speed or weight. Being a first time drone flier, I found it a bit tricky to fly. It is easy to pair and calibrate however. It's also nice that you can fly it with the remote or with the app. The camera works great and you can view the camera even if using the remote to control the flight. Considering how many times I have crashed, it's holding up very well. Great drone for first time fliers.

Terrible drone for the price

You can adjust the trim levels all you want but just has a mind of its own when hovering that you will be scared to take it high and further out. I only took it up to 20 feet and quit. Whereas i took the dji mini pro 3 out almost 2km without even worrying; its that stable.

For your concern, we hope you could understand that the theory for beginner drones to hover is to hold altitude by its built-in air pressure gauge, which defines the height it hovers, but could not control the direction it moves.
Only drones with a built-in GPS chip can definitely hover without moving because GPS can recognize and define the coordinate by satellite signals. If you want a drone that go up and hover on the spot, we would like to introduce SP550 and SP700 to you. Both of them are GPS drones.
If you think it drifts too much,
---Would you please check if the remote and drone batteries have enough power?
---Try calibrating 5 times before taking off.
---Fly in a no wind or breeze day and open field place where there are no trees/woods around.
--Please try to trim it to adjust its responsiveness.

It's not fair

I wonder how I can test the drone without opening the box... I had it less than 24 hours

Id say its good for a beginner but you might as well get a nicer and consistent brand drone or not one at all if this is the option.

Too Light for the weather

This drone comes with 3 batteries: one to use and two to charge. The drone comes with a charger that charges two batteries at the same time. Perfect for when you are on the go. Assembly was a breeze, just connect the blades, the barrier blade protectors, and the landing legs and that's it! The drone also comes with replacement blades. The phone clip on the controller can handle holding my phone while still in its case. The controller also has pre-programmed buttons for flight recall, screenshot, or recording a video. The companion app connects seamlessly with a little delay in video responsiveness. However, the video quality is clear. What makes this drone slightly inferior is the ability to maneuver in light weather conditions, namely wind. The day needs to be basically wind-free to get full control of the drone. Almost the opposite weather for flying a kite. This drone will be more suitable for indoor navigation.

Any /Drone over .55lbs needs to be registered ($5) if it is over you need to register and take a test. Plus, the drone must be in your eyesight at all times. Check your local laws on drones. Let me preface this review by saying I have never flown a drone... ever! So, this was definitely a learning experience for me. I downloaded the app, charged the batteries, loaded them up and went to a VERY wide-open grassy area. Turned the units on and connected to my phone. Fired the unit up and took off slowly, yes, I was nervous. It took pretty much the whole first battery (15 minutes) to get acclimated to the flight. I kept wanting to watch the view from the phone instead of line of site. I think for me the line of site flying was easiest but still hard to teach your hand eye coordination to fly. Once I was comfortable with it, I tried the flip. (wow) ok move on to the next gimmick. Circle, ok that’s cool one time and I wont ever use it again. Kind of gimmicky, kind of cool to show friends. Taking pictures and video was fairly easy, just hit the button. The quality was not really bad. I did find it a little hard to hold the drone steady for pics and for video it was shaky, it needs a gimbal but not at this price point. (Auto Hover when it’s windy is a little tricky, I would have loved to see this option but this would have brought price way up) When I tried to trim, while in flight, I really didn’t notice any major differences. I just used more stick to get results. The one key take-off and landing was a neat idea and it worked flawlessly. The range of 120m is just about right for this small drone. The camera can be pointed down or in a horizontal mode prior to flight. I like the horizon for myself as I can check it line of sight and through the video if I get lost or want to make sure I am going in the right direction. When the battery is low, the unit beeps real loud and you have a minute or so to bring it home. Landing took a few tries to get it ok for me. I’m glad the unit came with propeller guards to help for harder landings. In the future I would love to get another one with Item avoidance from all angles, better camera with a gimbal. longer battery, etc. but only after I become a confident flier. For the money this is an ok unit, especially for beginners, for those that get this one down pat, the pricier models with lots of more options will be easy to operate. I would recommend this to family and friends who are beginners.
