If you are looking for some good solid punchy bass for your home theater. This is what you need! Right out of the box you can tell this is a solid subwoofer with some good weight to it. It looks like every other subwoofer out there. Black case with front grille to protect the speaker. It is a fairly small cabinet, but don't let its size fool you. This thing has some serious power! It doesn't take much to set this up at all. I had a subwoofer out on my amp that I plugged this directly into with some RCA cables. Even without touching any settings I immediately noticed a punchy fuller sound to what was coming out of my stereo. It was that one piece of the puzzle that was missing. After plugging it in there are a few adjustments on the back of the subwoofer that needs to be set for the optimal performance. First of all your volume, that's just the level of the bass. The higher it is, the more bass you will hear. Then the crossover which basically sets the frequency of sound that will be sent to the subwoofer, and what will be sent to your other speakers. You basically have to just play around with this setting till you find what works best for your setup and what you like to hear. Then finally you have a phase control. This is another one that you just have to play with and set it for your room and your speaker placement to make sure everything sounds the way you want it. That's it! Then you can just kick back and enjoy some amazing deep bass sound! Whether its listening to music or an action movie, this thing will get your walls shaking and add the the immersive feeling of your stereo or home theater setup. I know that a lot of sound bars and things come with wimpy subs that just give you a little bass. But if you are looking for some serious punch and bass that you can literally feel. This is what you need to get!

    Adds depth of sound

This is my first standalone sub. I have had subs that came with soundbars but never bought one to add to my home stereo system prior to now. I was always satisfied with the bass (and balance) of my high-end floor speakers, especially when listening to music. Where this subwoofer shined, however, was bringing depth to movie/tv watching. I have it paired with 30yr old JBL dual passive 8" floor speakers, Sony Atmos speakers, and a JBL center channel all driven by a Sony 165W x7 channel receiver--creating essentially a 3.1.2 system. The sub is completely enclosed and had a fair amount of weight. Features include volume, crossover and phase knobs plus RCA line level inputs (cable not included) and a ground lift switch to eliminate hum. It also has a glowing blue "on" indicator light on the rear panel which, unfortunately, cannot be disabled. The sub has 4 rubber feet lifting the device approximately 1" off the ground. Upon hooking up the sub to my Sony STRDN1080 I heard nothing. It turns out I had to adjust my receiver speaker setup to include the subwoofer when listening in 2-channel mode (thus creating 2.1). I cranked some Twenty-One Pilots (Heathens), DJ Magic Mike (Feel the Bass), and Pearl Jam (Blood) as my my standard test tracks. The sub was defaulted at about 33% volume out of the box (150Hz crossover, 90° phase) and didn't add much even to the Magic Mike track...so I did what we all would do--cranked up the subwoofer. I got pretty close to distortion at full volume but also would never intentionally run my system like this. (The bass coming out of the floor speakers along with the Sonance was officially annoying at that point.) I settled at 50% volume and the bass thumped. I was surprised, however, how quickly the volume dropped off as I moved back in the room to my couch approx 10' from the face of the sub. Switching to rock music I could hear the bass guitar and bass drum more clearly, more clearly replicating the effect you get at a live concert. Watching TV dramas, the Sonance really brought out the audio. I was satisfied before watching TV...now I am "more satisfied." However, I am getting a bit annoyed by sitcoms or news shows that drop sound effects that include deep bass randomly as I find it distracting. I may have to do some more tweaking and may end up manually adjusting the volume on the sub more often than I want to as I switch between listening sources (tv sitcoms, news, dramas, movies, music, etc.) but overall this subwoofer brought an element of depth to everything I listen to.

A Good Sub Makes a Difference

It's hard to put into words (without hearing for yourself), but a good/great subwoofer makes a world of difference when listening to music or using your home theater system. I bring this up because this Sonance 10" really packs a punch, and delivers great bass overall. The design/aesthetic is simple, and works well for a variety of rooms. Once it's out of the box, setup is really easy, and there are instructions if needed. Now, let's dive into performance. Again, the biggest takeaway here is that this Sonance sub really delivers on its big-power, low-response time promise. For music, even when the volume is low, the sub can fill the room when needed. For home theater use, the bass can fill every scene when needed. There's no muddiness to find, and the bass is strong when needed, but mellow when times call for it. Overall, I was really impressed with this subwoofer. If you're coming from a lower-powered sub (anywhere from 80-150W) you'll easily notice a difference, and the 27Hz low, rich bass response is massive for providing immersion.

I've only owned a couple powered subs for my home theater system over the years. My current sub, a Polk PSW505 12", sounds very good and gets low, but after switching over to the Sonance, it sounds "boomy" and loose. The Sonance has a tighter more accurate sound. It also has a "fuller" sound compared to the Polk. This may be because it has a broader frequency range then the Polk according to the specs. I was quite surprised and pleased with how amazing the Sonance sounds considering how compact it is. You can practically put this sub anywhere. Both subs were tested using the LFE input, and both set to about 2/3rds gain/volume on the sub itself. Both have practically identical power wattage outputs. I sampled different genres of music and certain high action parts of Top Gun and The Matrix. Now I have to figure out what to do with my old sub. Most likely I'll just run both of them. Best of both worlds. I highly recommend this powered subwoofer.

the good: Normally for this kind of review I’d make a bullet list of the good and bad qualities. Whenever I look at a products reviews, that’s the first thing I look at, to see what kinds of things people complain about and look for patterns and constant areas of complaints. I’m not going to do that with this review. The positives are more difficult to put into individual points, so I’ll just give you my impressions and hopefully it'll give you a better idea of how this sub performs. When I started listening to this sub with a critical ear, one thing stood out to me that I think might be throwing people off when they listen to it: it doesn’t sound like a stereotypical “subwoofer”. What I mean to say is, it’s not a melt your face off rattle the room boom boom type of sub. It’s much more nuanced than that. It’s not the best sub for every type of music, but what it does well it does *really* well. To me, it actually sounds more like a bass cabinet than a sub at times. Meaning if there’s a bass guitar playing in the music you’re listening to, the extension and quality of sound actually sounds more like an actual bass guitar than a sub. It’s a subtle distinction, but it’s there none the less. To say that I’m impressed with this little sub is an understatement. Proper placement and crossover settings aside, it pumps out clean, punchy, and accurate bass for all genres of music. the bad: - It’s not not in any way flashy or “look at me” in terms of design. Is that a negative? I suppose some might interpret it that way. Very plain and utilitarian design. Other than that, really no negatives for me, certainly not in the price range. misc: - While it’s punchy and powerful, it is what it is…meaning it’s a 10” sealed box. You get a little more volume and a little less accuracy typically in a sealed enclosure. They’ve done a good job of mitigating that here in my opinion, but physics unfortunately just won’t give you crazy low extension with a 10” sub. That being said, it does punch well outside its weight class in my opinion though. overall: I personally haven’t heard anything comparable in this price range. In fact, quite the opposite. At this price point mostly what you get is the big boomy inaccurate bass. Sonance has knocked it out of the park with this one. Easy 5 stars.

First off Sonance would never have been y first choice, but after hearing this sub I will be sure to not pass them by again. I replaced a Definitive ProSub1000 and am much happier with this little guy. The 1000 has two options for tuning the sub, volume and crossover. The Sonance adds phasing which really helped out in my home theater. This sub is priced the same and only has a third of the power of my 1000 but seemed to have a tighter bass hit and less rattle throughout the house. I hit it hard with music right off the bat, then played a few video games and right in to the non stop action of John Wick 3 and was never let down, was a perfect pairing with my Klipsch RF 7's. Spend some time fine tuning the sub to match with your room and your speakers and you should be super happy when the bass comes on.

    Good for small rooms

This is a very compact subwoofer. It is good for smaller rooms, like a bedroom or office. It doesn't have enough power to fill a larger room, and when pushed to high volumes its sonic limitations become clear. It plays fairly deep, I would estimate it has usable output down to about 35 Hz in a small room when properly placed. But at loud volumes first the bass becomes compressed, and then beyond that you can hear the woofer cone reach the limits of its physical travel. It's a step up in sound quality from other 10" subwoofers that cost less than $250. I can think of at least two other subwoofers in this same price class that can sonically outperform this one, however they are physically at least 4 times larger so won't really work in places where this one will. Another thing to consider with any subwoofer is that the sound from them is VERY dependent upon room placement and setup. Take your time adjusting the controls and finding a location that works the best. I use 2 subwoofers in my system because the size and shape of my room makes it impossible to get uniform bass response using only 1. With 1 subwoofer, there are areas of my room where the bass is overwhelming, and other areas where there is virtually no bass at all. Using 2 subwoofers allows me to arrange and adjust them to provide even bass response throughout most of the room. Plan to spend an hour or two or more tweaking for the best sound.

Great sub. Nice clean lows from a small sealed cabinet. I recently switched my main speakers from an older pair with 15" woofers to some Klipsch speakers with dual 8" woofers so I wasn't using a sub yet as I didn't think it was needed. But my bass was a little lacking as I soon found out when I added this bad boy. My living room is about 25' by 16' with vaulted ceiling and this sub fills it with clean low bass. Small cabinet fits in corner inconspicuously but sound is anything but. Has variable phase control, freq, volume, and ground lift switch. Small but heavy it does the trick. Reasonable price. I really like it.

From the outside, this looks like most any other subwoofer, but the advantage lies in the details. There are three major things you can customize. First, the relative volume of the speaker - nice, but not super important. Second, the phase response of the speaker - probably only true audiophiles would care or even be able to notice this one. Last and most important, the cutover frequency where the subwoofer takes over from your main speakers. This is where I really noticed the most difference. Depending on the size of the woofers in your front speakers, you will want the subwoofer to take over at a higher or lower frequency. Too high and it's interfering with your mains. Too low and there's a detectable gap between what your main speakers are handling and what your subwoofer is putting out. You can dial this one in just right so you can't tell where the subwoofer takes over from your main speakers, and it really puts out some thunderous low ends.

I currently have all Martin Logan speakers with an 8inch ported sub that I felt was a bit inadequate so I tried this Sonance. I was a little skeptical because this company typically makes installation type speakers. For a 10” this thing bangs. The bass is tight and clear and so far can’t hear any distortion. What I like is that it is very clean bass and doesn’t sound so rattling as my 8” ported. I wouldn’t say it’s like a 12” but for the price and quality it’s a win. So glad I got this for my system because it matches well with my electrostatic speakers. Great job Sonance!

Check out all the specs in the product description. I won't reiterate that here. As for the sub, it's a smaller compact sub and is front firing. It has a good response and some tuning ability. I tested with both LFE/Main configuration pairing up to Bi-AMP'd RTIA9 fronts. It was able to match up fairly well at crossover points and picked up with no gaps. It has the base settings for input/phase/crossover but all are on a rotary twist pot. And it's all a guesstimate so have that SPL meter to dial it in. At the price point, I would consider it a lower level sub in terms of features but it proves to be a solid amp with little clipping. So if you are rocking a mid to higher-end system you may find some slight issues otherwise it has a solid build structure and the normal function. Final Review - Good sub if on sale, otherwise at current 499 MSRP I would audition other subs in this category. Again solid amp just lacks tuning/features.

This is an amazing subwoofer that is worthy of the Magnolia certification. Featuring good tones without any distortion regardless of volume. The looks are typical of most subwoofers, your typical black box that you try to hide out of the way, but it is built solidly and I see no issues with durability. Overall a great subwoofer that I would recommend to anyone looking to upgrade their sound system.

Great small sub, it really punches better than 12" subs that have double the size cabinet. Case in point, my old powered subwoofer was a JBL ES-250, it sounds OK for its price point, but now this new sub was a couple hundred more than the larger JBL. Factoring in the inflation over last 10 years, this sub is an incredible bargain at the $399 price point! I would like to add two things: 1) product came with a grounded AEC power cord, very good for ensuring no audible ground humming when speakers idle. 2) shipping time was only 2 days, even though we were given a 9-day due date. Ordered on a Monday, came UPS to my door on Wednesday at 1:30 pm. Talk about instant gratification... In conclusion, this appears to be a discontinued model, I suggest buying two of your room is very large!
