Extremely poor sub bass, poor mid bass - and if you turn volume up it’ll produce decent bass, but also very thunky sounding. Honestly sounds like a $100 sub at best.

Great bass for a home movie theater setup

The Sonance sub is a great add on to any home theater or sound set up you have. Set up is easy and the real time consuming part came more from sound output adjustments. This sub should please just about most people out there with ample sound and bass that's clear, clean and packs a punch. The Sonance 10" sub is your pretty standard run of the mill cabinet style sub that you would expect to see in your higher end tiers. The build quality is sleek and simple and yet still maintains that subtle classy look. Set up is pretty easy and is done through your receiver via the subs line input audio jacks. If your like me and already have an audio 7.1 set up then this should take a matter of minutes. On the back of the sub you will find your power buttons, status light, volume, crossover, and phase controls. The part that took the longest for me was making sure i got the proper sounds coming out of the subs since i lacked the proper audio equipment to do so. I don't want to waste time with specs as you can easily read them off the website. What i do wanna do though is waste no time in jump right in to the audio quality. This sub is being used in conjunction with my Yamaha set up that i already have. The main use of my sounds is for movies and gaming. There are two big things i personally look for in my subs and that is bass quality and consistency. The sound quality is phenomenal and put my other sub to shame. While watching Annabelle it gave me that moving theater feel and the bass was so crisp and clean that it never took away from my other audio sounds i.e. my mids and highs. The bass has such a good punch that every scare scene was felt and made all my friends and family jump. Taking it to the next level i really wanted to see what this could do in the way of gaming. One thing i want to add on a side note is that while gaming, one of the biggest issues i have had in the past is my subs not being able to keep up with the rapid gunfire from such games as Call of Duty or The Division. My subs would always seem to distort as they struggled to keep up and at times would even seem to glitch out and output straight bass with no consistency to what was going on in the game. This was not the case with the Sonance. The bass was very fluid and consistent while being easily felt through the floor boards. Though my wife didn't like the punch it packed i felt it helped with immersion. As explosions took place there were a couple times i felt my self ducking from the impact as the bass hit putting me there in the game. Quality never once dropped out nor over took any other sound. Everything seemed to work flawlessly to the point to where i found myself gaming longer than i normally do just as a result of the sheer immersion factor. Over all when it comes to subs for home audio its pretty cut and dry. Does the bass hit with consistency? Are there audio out adjustable? And is the audio quality clean and crisp? Yes, yes and yes. This is a great add on to any set up for a small to mid size home and i find it really hard to be disappointed with this sub. For me this fits the bill perfectly

    Powerful Compact Sub

I can’t really think of any downsides of this product. It’s compact, has a removable grille, removable feet, and all the inputs and control knobs I’d expect for a quality subwoofer. Sound quality is superb. I have it paired to a Sonos amp and mid-range bookshelf speakers. While the bookshelf speakers have some pretty decent sized woofers, adding this guy to the mix immediately made a difference. You’re getting a good sized 10” woofer that can handle 275W of continuous power. That’s more than my amp can push to the speakers so I had to play a few good bass heavy samples (always fun with a new sub) to get the volume and crossover set so that the bass the sub produced was not too overpowering and meshed well with the rest of the system. Kudos to the owner’s manual, it’s well written and explains how to properly adjust the sub with the volume, crossover, and phase shift if you’re unfamiliar with setup. It even explains how its placement relative to walls will affect the sound. Sonance typically sells to professional installers, and not to end users directly. These guys put their reputation on the line every time they recommend and install a product, so even if you’ve never of Sonance you can rest assured this is a trustworthy brand. Of course, when it comes to sound components, the sky is the limit. For example, my home theater room has a much larger and more expensive sub but it would not fit in most living rooms and definitely overpower most setups. So no, this is not the absolute best sub money can buy, but in this price range it is really good, and better than the more well-known brand’s 10” subs that I’ve owned in the past. Overall, I’m very happy with it for my Sonos based listening room!

Sonance - Magnolia 10" 275W Powered Subwoofer - Black I’m not going to go over all the specs of this unit. You can easily look them up to get a full set of specs. It took me less than 10 minutes to set this subwoofer up to suit my needs. I set it up using an audio subwoofer test disk and my ears. I know from past experience that using the automatic setup on my AVR will not get the sound I like. I’m sure it’s fine for over performance, but I like a little more punch to my music and movies. I replaced 2 mid end, name brand, powered subwoofers with this 1 unit. I am very impressed. The reason I had 2 other units was because by the time I got the punch I wanted out of 1 it was past it’s working limit. So I bought another one and could then turn the output down to not exceed it’s limits and still get the punch I wanted. This unit had no issue replacing both of the other units and still has plenty of room to push even further. The specs say it is tuned down to 27Hz. My test disk starts at 10Hz and works it way up 1 Hz at a time, staying on each frequency about 5 seconds. They are not misleading you about the tuned frequency. It reproduced sound all the way down to 10Hz, but at 27Hz everything in the house rattled. The amount or raw bass this unit provided at 27Hz was beyond impressive. It is smaller in size than my other units, but outputs at least twice the bass. All specs are available for this unit online so going over each switch and knob is pointless. I have to add that they did forget 1 thing in the specs. It does have auto standby/on. At the first sign of the AVR being turned on the power light turns from red to blue. After the AVR is turned off it takes 30 minutes for the unit to return to standby. I thought 30 minutes was a bit much but I can see that listening at very low volumes they wanted the unit to stay on for the occasional bass punch. This unit preforms better than units priced $100.00 more. My bottom line is, buy it. For a normal size living room, watching movies and listening to music, this is all the subwoofer you will need. Don’t be like me and have to by 2 slightly cheaper ones just to get close. I absolutely didn’t save any money buying 2 subwoofers. I should have just spent the extra money and bought this one. I am now in serious consideration of moving my other 2 subwoofers to my shop and leaving this unit in my living room. It will make the wife happier because it’s smaller and has a cleaner look. If your movie room is dark all the time you might want to put a small piece of black tape over the power light. It is very bright in the dark, shining off the wall.
