Customers are saying

Customers admire the Ace Wireless Over-the-Ear Headphones with Active Noise Cancellation for their fantastic sound quality and comfortable design. Many appreciate the long battery life, lightweight feel, and effective active noise cancellation. However, some customers feel the bass is lacking and the headphones can get a little warm with use, while others suggest improvements to the app.

Verdict. The Sonos Ace are very comfortable and deliver exceptional sound. Active Noise Cancellation is excellent, and overall controls are easy and intuitive. They are quite beautiful esthetically too. Unfortunately, the app disappoints. Initial impressions. Everything about this product feels premium… the felt cover that envelops the case, the soft touch of the case, and the finish and materials on the headphones. I love the magnetic cable organizer; that’s a really nice idea to grab what you need easily, then reorganize the cables without space constraints, and then stick the organizer back in the interior of the case. I really appreciate the USB-C cable to 3.5mm connector. The package also comes with a USB-C charging cable and a quick reference guide. Setup. I was able to set these up without the Sonos App, but was also prompted to download the app for a better experience. No issues at all. The quick reference guide is great to learn the use of the buttons. The Sonos Ace can connect to two devices. Conditions. The Sonos Ace arrived just before I left for a work trip, so I got to try these in the environments I will typically use them, as well as at home with an Arc soundbar. Sound. The Sonos Ace delivers exceptional sound. The lows are excellent, with a sound boost option at low volume. Bass is clear and ample. Mids and highs are wonderful, clear, crisp, and balance. Take these headphones through any song they will meet your expectations. The first time I put them on, I lost an hour of just going through different songs and content. 5 out of 5 for music sound. ANC. I found ANC to be excellent. Of note, the passive noise cancellation is probably to best of any headphones I have ever used. Without ANC on, the headphones reduce a lot of ambient noise around. When ANC is on, almost everything else goes away. Walking through the airport and sitting on the plane, these headphones turns-down the world around. When playing music with ANC, the world disappears. 5 out of 5 for ANC. Controls. Given only three buttons, controls are intuitive and very well done. I love the multifunction media button, which slides up/down and can also be pressed to execute certain command. I also LOVE that the hear-through mode can be activated with a dedicated and easy to find button. Unfortunately, hear-through does not turn down or pause music or other content (more on that in the app section). While I have learned to love the earcup touch controls of some other brands, this is the best implementation of button controls (non-touch) that I have experienced. 4 out of 5 for controls. App. Some brands have figured out that the app can add significantly to the user experience, or be mostly irrelevant. I think I will probably never use the app for the Sonos Ace… There is just not much there. The equalizer is significantly limited (thankfully, sound is wonderful as is). It’s not possible to customize what happens when the hear-through mode is activated (turn-down or pause content). There is no location-based sound profile. This is where Sonos can make significant improvements. I rate the app a 2 of 5. Arc Sound Swap. Wow, this is a cool feature, and a great use case for us. We have an Arc Soundbar in the master bedroom because it provides great sound in an easy form factor. However, my wife likes to watch TV past my bedtime, and I sometimes want to watch TV before she wakes up. This often leads to some form of compromise of either barely hearing sound or not watching TV at all. With these headphones, I can swap sound at the push of one button! Both my wife and I can watch TV when it suits us. Most impressively, the Dolby Atmos is unreal… I have never experience spatial audio before and I am sold. I guess now, we need to keep the headphones in the master bedroom most of the time though. Comfort. I wore these headphones for three straight hours and was as comfortable as the best headphones I have worn. They feel great; not too tight on the head, but still providing a great seal around the ears. I think at times I felt my ears and top of my head (I don’t have hair) a bit warm, but not an issue. 5 out of 5 for comfort. Things I love: - Exceptional sound - Excellent ANC - Intuitive controls that work great - Easy paring and sound swap with Arc Soundbars - Amazing sound experience with Spatial Audio Dolby Atmos when paired with Arc - Very nice case, convenient accessories, and premium materials and finish - 30 hours of battery with ANC turned on! - Excellent phone call quality. Things I don’t love: - The app needs to add much more value - Hear-through really needs to be fixed… If I activate hear-through, it’s because I really need to hear what is going on. It’s not helpful if my music or podcast is still playing at full volume Conclusion. These are very very nice headphones. They are among the most beautiful headphones on the market. Sound is exceptional, with excellent ANC performance and passive noise cancellation. The app needs work; hopefully this will come in future updates. The Arc sound swap adds a unique feature that will definitely please people in the Sonos ecosystem and satisfy movie buffs. These are fairly expensive, but I think that many people will see the value based on their use cases. Overall, I rate these 4.5 out of 5, bumping to 5-Stars because 4 really doesn’t do them justice.

I am sorry about the less than stellar experience you are having with Sonos Ace. Here are some troubleshooting steps and tips to address the issues you're experiencing:

      **1. Connectivity Issues
Ensure Firmware is Up-to-Date: Check the Sonos app for any firmware updates for your headphones.
Bluetooth Pairing: Make sure Bluetooth is turned on and functioning correctly on your device. Try unpairing and re-pairing the headphones.
Reset the Headphones: Perform a factory reset on the headphones. Consult the user manual or Sonos support for the specific reset procedure.
      **2. Dolby Atmos Compatibility
Check Device Compatibility: Ensure that the device you’re connecting to supports Dolby Atmos and is configured correctly.
Update Device Firmware: Make sure that the device (e.g., TV, streaming box) firmware is up-to-date.
      **3. Battery Life Issues
Charge Fully: Ensure the headphones are fully charged using the provided cable.
Battery Health: If the battery life continues to be a problem, check for any firmware updates or contact Sonos support.
      **4. General Troubleshooting
App Configuration: Verify that you have the latest version of the Sonos app. Uninstall and reinstall the app if needed.
Contact Support: If these steps don’t resolve the issues, reach out to Sonos customer support at support.sonos.com for assistance. Document the issues you’re facing to provide detailed information.

For persistent problems or if the product does not meet your expectations, consider discussing options with Sonos support, including potential replacements or repairs.

      I hope you find a solution! john.milton

Too pricy for what it is. Expencted a lot as it was an offering from Sonos but the sound quality and the anc was disappointing. I have tried the Bose QC ultra, Sony xm4 and Sony xm4 and I chose the 4+ year old Sony xm4 over this.

I am probably most upset that these do not pair with all of the rest of the Sonos speakers. I aimed to utilize these in my movie room. In order to use these u do have to have a sonos soundbar and then youd be able to switch audio between soundbar and headphones. I spent time troubleshooting jusy to find out later that in order to use these i need to run an hdmi cord from the soundbar to the projector. I assumed and hoped for better for 4-500 bucks.

Very nice build quality, but the sound is weak with little punch to it. The noise cancellation lets in voices, A/C, and fan much more than Bose and Sony. Also, the wear detection hardly works when I remove my headphones from my head.

Overall these headphones are high quality noise canceling headphones with a couple extra Sonos integration features via the app and integration with the Arc soundbar. I have several Sonos products in the house including sound bars. They consistently work well and have good sound with minimal fuss. These headphones are no different but they fall a bit short of feeling fully “Sonos”. Unboxing and initial impressions The headphones come well packaged in almost all cardboard recyclable packaging. A soft zippered case is included and the ear cups rotate sideways to fit nicely in. The build quality is well made but not as high as AirPods Max, but still certainly well made. They feel comfortable on the head and well balanced. They feel light weight. App and connectivity I found the headphones easy to set up with the Sonos iOS app. On your phone though, they use bluetooth like Bose or Sony headphones. They don’t use Sonos usual apple Airplay for Wifi Streaming. In practice that doesn’t matter much but it makes them feel like a more separate product. Some people may prefer this anyway - just something to keep in mind. The app was recently redesigned. There seems to be some fuss about it online, but I don’t have any issue with the new app. Sound quality. These headphones have a good sound but will not wow an audiophile. The sound is clear with good bass and vocals, but the sound is lacking some detail. I’d put the overall sound quality lower than Apple AirPods Max and very slightly worse than bose quiet comforts, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. They are well catered to movie watching and general music listening and are not fatiguing to listen to at all. Of course, the sound can be tweaked a bit with the App EQ settings. Noise Canceling/Aware mode The noise canceling and Aware mode are quite good. I was impressed with how well both of them worked. It is certainly up there with the best of the competition. Arc sound swap I tried out the sound swap feature with the Sonos Arc. It worked perfectly with no issue. It works via the app or the button on the Ace headphones. This is probably the killer feature of these headphones for those who want it. Now you can easily play whatever audio is playing on the Arc via the headphones with a simple button push. I can see this feature being extremely useful for some people. Other Usability Considerations Battery life appears to be quite good. Sonos advertises 30 hours and although I wasn’t able to test it precisely, I see no reason to doubt their claims. Conclusion I would recommend these headphones to a person who would benefit from the Arc sound swap feature, especially if you do not already own a pair of over the ear noise canceling headphones. The sound may not impress an audiophile but many people will find the sound pleasing and clear with good vocals and bass. I’d also recommend them to a person who wants something that works with the Sonos App and Ecosystem, even if it’s not using Airplay or wifi streaming. If you already own a pair of noise canceling over the ear headphones and are mainly interested in the highest audio quality, you won’t be missing much with these.

I might have gotten a defective piece for that reason I returned. I found the sound little hallow and not to the likes of Bose QC or Sony XM5. One push switch to connect to your existing sound system felt magical

It's disappointing when a product doesn't meet expectations, especially when comparing to other high-quality brands like Bose or Sony. The one-push switch feature to connect to your existing sound system is indeed convenient, but the overall experience should be satisfying. We here at Sonos hope your next audio experience is much more enjoyable. john.milton
