Surprisingly detailed sound for its size

I have Sonos One speakers throughout my home, and they are phenomenal. I wanted a small sound bar for a 42” LG TV, and decided to go with the Sonos Beam. For its size, the Beam has some serious chops. The soundstage isn’t as wide as its larger siblings (to be expected), but the overall sound is highly detailed and dialogue is crisp and clear. The most glaring shortcoming is its lack of bass. If you are looking for bass that shakes the room, there are dozens of cheaper options. But if you prefer that warm, balanced “Sonos sound” and just want a small sound bar for some extra oooomph, the Beam should be on your short list.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We would recommend first making sure the correct audio codec is being sent to the soundbar from the Tv. This is usually the issue if our home theater products don't sound very good. If it's still sounding "like a tin can" we would love to help get this situated. Feel free to head over to Sonos.com/support and reach out whichever way you prefer. john.milton

I've been a fan of Sonos for a long time, but i felt the soundbar was going to improve the sound of the tv; however, ylthere was not a significant difference.

My feedback on Sonos bars - both Ray and Beam

    Posted .

I love my Sonos bars - (BEAMS). they most certainly make a huge difference in the quality of the sound and also allow for adjusting the treble/base balance. However, I have had some issues which have resulted in frustration, what I believe to have been an unnecessary expenditure of time by your installers at substantial expense to me. 1. I was initially sold the Sonos Ray bars which did not work properly with my tvs - which are smart tvs. I had to continually go into settings to try to adjust the audio output to come from the sonos bar itself. Sometimes it worked - sometimes it didnt; when it did work - it often did not hold very long. I was told this is just how it has to work. Wifi provider routers do not necessarily split 2.4g and 5g so sonos bar (BEAM) does NOT operate properly - wifi providers apparently have the ability to adjust the delivery of wifi to split the signal but for example Spectrum won't. Options are that a cable is used connecting router to sonos bar - which establishes a 2.4g connection to the Sonos bar and all bars at the location. Works like a charm. Installers say that many clients don't wish to have wires exposed. This makes the job of the installers tedius and time consuimg and often frustrates everyone. If something is worked out - it often seems to be aok but actually does compromise optimal usage of sonos bar which will impact client satisfaction with bar. A nest system would apparently solve the problem as well but would be an additional expense. Sales people should know this in advance - inform customers so that they are prepared for work arounds that may be needed and techs can far more efficiently do their job and ensure customer satisfaction with both the installation and the product that was sold to them.

Excellent sound quality. My wife enjoyed the beam most while in the store. Pricey, but you get what you pay for with soundbars. Much better than others at this price point.

As mentioned in my other sonos speaker reviews, the product is a solid option but you pay a premium for the brand name and the closed system. As long as you are aware of that and are OK with a walled garden approach for you sound system I think you will be happy with the quality of the products and ease of use.

My wife and I bought this a few days ago. Its small in size but man does it pack a punch. Sound quality is nice. Its on the higher proce side for a sound bar. But its quailty does make up for it.

Best sound bar I have ever owned. The quality of sound, design, ease of setting up everything is top notch. I got a new LG 65 C1 and this one goes awesomely with that, especially the atmos sound is out of the world. A must buy if you are looking for that entry level home theatre experience.

    Occupies the Value Niche

I listened to the Arc, the Beam, and the Ray at the in-store display and tried both the Ray and the Beam, paired with 2 Sonos Ones, as home theater setups, before settling on the Beam. I have little doubt that the Arc would have provided even greater sound separation out in the world, but for my purposes, the Beam is just fine. While the Ray was a solid-sounding unit, the Beam produces a much more refined spectrum of highs and mids, and, paired with the Ones and a Gen 3 Sub, the home theater results are outstanding. Recognition, pairing, and tuning with the Sonos app was a breeze, and I find the footprint of the unit (a foot or so shorter than the Arc) to be a plus for my cabinet-mounted system. Most will be using the unit as part of a system (or should be, to discover what real home theater is about) so, unless money is no object, I see no real reason to jump up another $400. At the end of the day, I ask myself, why didn't I spring for such a truly superior home theater system a lot sooner?

Great sound and connects easily to my Sony Brava TV. It is also a nice size and does not take up a lot of space. It does not, however, have bluetooth. Sometimes I cast workouts from my app ob my phone and it can drain its battery.

Sound is as better than any other soundbar I've heard in this price range, hence the 5 stars. If I had to nitpick, the only thing I would adjust/improve is the ability and ease of linking streaming apps directly into the Sonos app.

With the Sonos Woofer you will get a wonder bass and complex HD sound. We had a Samsung sound bar on our last TV and Sonos far exceeds sound quality. It actually gives you a surround sound from a single bar.
