Be prepared to not have it work if no Internet

I have several issues with Sonos and this Soundbar in general. 1. If you don't have Internet access this will not play sound from your television to the Beam even though it's directly connected to the ARC port via HDMI. This stupid philosophy everyone has now of tying everything to the Internet to function is terrible for the consumer. They should have a way to use it locally if your Internet is down. 2. You cannot put this on a guest network to use as a VLAN from your main network. 3. The sound really isn't all that people keep saying. I don't feel it lives up to all of the the hype. The same goes for the rest of the Sonos lineup. It all over priced garbage. I can't really express the level of frustration I have with this junk. This is a buyers remorse purchase I wish I never made. I'll never ever buy another or recommend a Sonos product to anyone.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback on your Sonos experience! The Sonos Beam should play sound from the television regardless of its current WiFi connection as long as it has been set up appropriately (which does require an internet connection). The content playing from the television to the Beam is direct and should not be impacted by your WiFi network going down or otherwise being unavailable. Unfortunately, the Sonos system does not currently support living on a Guest network but consider the request filed as a feature request! One way to improve the sound quality of any Sonos player is to perform the Trueplay tuning during set up. The Trueplay software is designed to take your unique room into account and generally improves the overall sound quality! Our customer experience team can help you with all three of the issues you are having with your Beam so please contact them through e-mail, social media or over the phone! All contact information can be found at sonos.com/support! john.milton

I purchased three Beam-Soundbars for three different rooms. Seems to perform better in the smaller room.

Major drag having to set up and then it’s AN APP on your phone . So for nearly 700 they couldn’t supply a REMOTE !! It kinda sucks having to open an app on my phone to manage the speaker . If I’m not there no one can use it. Everyone has to set up the app then everyone has to re- Pair to the device .

You can use the Sonos app to control the Beam. However, the Beam has an infrared receiver on the front and will learn your television remote commands as well! The set up process walks through how to teach the Beam your specific remote. If the remote won't pair with your television (or cable box, etc) remote contact Customer Experience for assistance but if it is an infrared remote the Beam should seamlessly learn that remote.

You can also use voice commands or the buttons on the top of the Beam to do everything from begin music playback to skipping tracks. The Sonos app is the most complete way to control the system but there are several other ways to enjoy your content as well! john.milton

I honestly feel the system sounded much better in the store than when I hear it at home. Not as full. Or clear. For the cost I’m just not sure I’d do it again. The setup was easy and Alexa is great. Maybe that’s what I paid for. Also when I tried to get back in my web account it wiped out all of my previous warranties. Not sure why they do that. So, overall, wanted to love it, but it’s just a date.

    Disconnects 99% of the time

Bought from Best Buy and loved it while it worked, which was only 10% of the time. Most of the time it kept disconnecting from my TV. I have read all the forums on what to do and nothing worked. I even removed all other gears plugged into my TV (Receiver, PS4, Cable, etc.) and it still would not work. The only way to make it work again was to unplug it, turn off the power on both TV and Sonos, and then plug them all again. However, after I turn off TV then the sonos would disconnect again. After 15 days (Best Buy return period), I returned it. I would like to hear from Sonos what they thing about these issues. I have owned and used dozens of other audio and video gear in the past decade and never have I encountered something soooo unreliable like this one. I

Thanks for your feedback and sorry for you experience with the Beam! It sounds like you are encountering an issue with how the television manages ARC handshakes across your equipment. Every television manufacturer handles this a little differently but our customer experience team handles these type of concerns very well. Additionally, the Beam includes an adapter in the box that allows you to turn the HDMI ARC connection to a digital optical connection in cases where the television does not have HDMI ARC support either through a software conflict or a hardware limitation. john.milton
