Horrible Sound bar with no Remote
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this sound bar as a gift a couple of months ago. Yesterday I tried to set it up with our SONY Bravia TV. This sound bar is a piece of junk. First. it requires an HDMI port on your TV with ARC. No other cable options to connect it to the TV. If your TV does not have an ARC HDMI, it must have an optical digital port which fortunately my TV does. In order to connect the bar to your TV, you must first download an iPhone APP and create an account, etc. The SONOS app is just horrible - extremely confusing and does not make any sense. Also, the company is tracking your activity because the only way to use the bar is via the app. The worst part of this sound bar is that it does not come with a remote - there is just no remote. If you want to change the bar volume, the only way is to use your iphone - what a stupid idea. The app has an option to pair your TV remote with it - but that does not work. I spent hours with a technician to set up the bar and no luck.

We're very sorry you don't like our app. We should mention that the reason our soundbars don't come with remotes is because who wants another remote laying around when you can just use the remote that came with your tv? You can pair that remote you already have with our soundbar. Which is another reason for the app.

Good not great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is a nice little sound bar. I now have it in my Kitchen on a small tv. I tried using it with just the speaker alone for the TV and then switched to surround. Dedicated two Sonos speakers for the surround . Not worth it for kitchen area. Also for the price I would spend extra to get more sound. Unfortunately the Sonos 5 is only connectable through the app or WIFI. It might get more sound if I had it up off the counter top. Still trying to decide if I should keep it or return. I think if one wanted to add a Sub it would be fine. That’s 600$!

This particular one was recommended by 2 different employees. It sounded good and crisp in the store with a decent amount of base for what it is. Unfortunately, in an actual room with lots of sound dampening furniture and other soft noises (furnace, fans, etc...), It's entirely to weak and the base flatlines. My couches are arranged between 6 and 12 ft from the sound bar in a sm/med room. I need to turn the volume 3/4 of the way to get it to where everyone can comfortably hear it. My tv's speakers are louder at 1/4 the volume. That's not good. As for the amazon Alexa feature, I have it hooked up over the tv's arc. The speaker will not resume tv audio after playing music without turning the tv off and on to reset it. Look this up online. This is a common complaint. If you want an actual soundbar for a tv from Sonos, get the Playbar. However, for the price of a Sonos with a sub, you can get a much better soundbar with atmos (the sound they use in theaters). I think for now though, I'm going back to my midrange soundbars until I can afford that.

I connect Alexa and it works for 5 minutes and then stops working. So I added the music apps right to sonos and everytime I try to play any music (Spotify, Amazon, iheart radio) I get an error message. On the off chance I get something to play, I am lucky to get through 1 song (maybe!) before it just stops playing. If this thing wasn't already mounted and connected to my TV it would be going right back to Best Buy...do yourself a favor and buy some basic sound bar for about 1/4 the price - you'll be much better off than fighting with this POS. I am pretty tech savvy but this thing has beaten me into submission - and I have a 1GB internet connection so connection and speed isn't an issue.

I wish I hadn't bought them.

Getting them back on line is turning out to be a nightmare. Nothing in there process works. I'll probably have to hire someone from Bestbuy to come out and fix it. It shouldn't be this hard. 2. These are the most inflexible speakers I've ever seen. For example, I can't connect them directly to a computer. If I had it to do over again, I would not buy Sonos speakers. This is a lot of money for a product that is this hard to interface with.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm fairly tech-savy and am very much an advocate of turning my house into a smart home. This is a great speaker for music, a very mediocre speaker if you're planning to use is in conjunction with your TV and with Alexa for smart home control. Even after calibrating via the Sonos app, TV audio is fairly poor quality on actually hearing dialog. The wireless Wifi connectivity is poor unless you're directly plugged into your router (every time you reset your router or it loses power, needs to go through the whole setup process again) I have 2 other Sonos 1 speakers that work very well and figured this would be a good edition to the family, but I wouldn't purchase again.

Good sound, terrible microphone for Alexa

If the bar is playing any audio you have a better chance of turning water to wine than getting to recognize Alexa commands. This is really disappointing as a long time Sonos customer, I was excited about this product. When I use any of my other Alexa products from Amazon the microphone instantly responds if music is playing etc but the Sonos only consistently responds if there no audio. I consistently have to use the Alexa app on my phone to send commands to the Sonos beam which really just defeats the purpose.

Fed up, returned after 2 weeks!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Sonos Beam & soundbar because it was beautifully designed, and because I needed a system that didn't have bluetooth capability. My upstairs neighbor in my apartment building kept bluetoothing into my LG soundbar while I was watching movies. Upon setting up the Sonos system, I immediately noticed the sound quality wasn't as good, the background music of a movie often drowned out the dialogue; and when using the speech enhancement option, the sound became shallow. I was almost willing to suck it up and make do, but then my soundbar started making a crackling sound during the dialogue bits. I called tech support numerous times, they kept running tests, and ultimately were no help. They kept saying that I had "wifi interference", which makes no sense because I had the soundbar and subwoofer plugged directly into my modem, I wasn't even using Wifi! If you want a soundbar & subwoofer of quality, that can handle the dynamic sound shifts of a movie or tv show, stick with a company whose main focus is cinema (samsung, lg, sony, etc).

Won't update, so can't use the wireless capabiliti

The soundbar wont update, keep getting an error. Tried sending in a diagnostic and that fails as well. Tried it on different devices, ethernet and wifi updating. 0 support online and the call wait line was 30+ min, unless it miraculously updates I'm most likely returning it.

Utterly disappointed

I have a Sonos one in my bedroom, and the ikea sonos versions in my office and kitchen to give an all round the house sound - I'd say 40% of the time when using everything together to play music it fails. App is terrible, and not too user friendly and recently sonos introduced 2 versions of the app where you have to choose the version depending on the age of your devices. Really disappointed that I invested so much in what I thought was reasonably high end home wide entertainment. Should have gone with bose.

As far as the app, the benefits of our products come from the fact that there are computers built into each one. This also means eventually the hardware gets outdated. (Imagine your phone from 2005 running the same software that was made for your most recent cell phone)
We did not discontinue these products, but promised bug fixes and stability updates to the older S1 products as they can no longer receive new updates. We would also encourage you to upgrade your S1 products with our 30% trade up program that we offer if you'd like. This is above industry standards and should get you everything you need for a great listening experience!

Does not work with Vizio

This appears to be a know problem, both parties blame it on the other one. Just saying, if you no there is an issue, Sonos should let buyers know. I have spend "hours" researching, buying, setting up, for nothing.

Intermittent sound problems

Instead, we get an intermittent garbled sound that is reminiscent of an old 16mm projector from my elementary school days. I've tried changing the HDMI cable the times, yet the problem persists. Will go back to Sony the next time.
