Customers commend the Move Smart Portable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Speaker's superb sound quality, particularly its amazing bass and impressive volume. Its portability and long battery life are also frequently praised, making it a convenient and versatile option. However, some customers find the speaker's weight and size to be drawbacks, and a few mention that the price point may be relatively high. The speaker's ease of setup is also a positive aspect noted by some users.

A Must Have Smart Home & Portable Speaker
|

Smart Home Speakers and Portable Speakers are something that have become such an easy way to help you at home or enjoy music. There are so many options for both styles of speakers that it can be hard to narrow it all down. Thankfully, Sonos has combined these two speakers in magnificent fashion with the Sonos Move! Here is what I think...
SET-UP:
- Taking the Move out of the box your first impression is this thing is heavy duty. It's big but compact, heavy but easy to carry, and just overall feels very high quality. In the box you have the Move, charging base, and a nice Sonos brand clothing carrying bag for the Move.
- An initial thought is I really like the charging base for this. It's very simple and nice because it makes the Move a permanent fixture in your house but you can just lift the Move on and off the base for portability. I also really like how forward thinking Sonos was to include a port for USB-C so you can more easily charge the Move on the go instead of the charging base. However, no USB-C cable is included with the package.
- Setting it Up for Music was very easy! Just set it on the power base, download the Sonos App, and complete set-up through the app. The Sonos app will hook you up to the WiFi, sign you into any music apps, and set up your speaker to Google Assistant / Alexa (I used Google). I can't say enough how you should absolutely set up Google Assistant / Alexa with the Move, it just adds a tremendous amount of value to an already exceptional speaker.
- The buttons on the Move are very subtle and simple by having controls for connectivity, power, microphone on/off, play/pause, and volume controls. All very slick and smooth but I do wish there was an easy way to tell battery life besides the Sonos App or asking Google what the battery level was.
FEATURE PERFORMANCE:
- Once set up, the Move works very smoothly. You can play music through the Sonos app, ask Google to play music for you, Apple Airplay, or since it’s a WiFi speaker - most music apps / phones will let you connect and play music through it regardless of using the Sonos app which is nice. Of course you can also use Bluetooth when you are off Wifi which is very easy to use as expected.
- It's important to note that Sonos speakers uses "Trueplay" which is where it uses the microphones in your phone to set up the acoustics in a room. The Sonos Move uses the microphones on top of the speaker itself to automatically perform Trueplay whenever you move the speaker and set it back down. This is a huge benefit and makes using a Sonos so much more easy.
- Sonos really nailed the Portability side of the Move. The battery life is great at 10 hours and it's very durable and ready for the elements which is great so you can bring it by any lake/pool, or out in the rain, or even outside in hot days or cold nights. You can't completely submerge it in water but that's not something I need from this speaker anyways. Regardless, it is a huge plus for a portable speaker to know it's not always going to be in dry normal conditions.
SOUND QUALITY & SMART HOME
- The Sound on the Sonos Move is by far the best sound quality I have ever experienced on a Portable Battery Powered Speaker or on a Google Assistant Speaker. The sound is so crisp and clear but the lows and bass are so powerful that you don't understand how they could do all that in a relatively small package. Also the sound quality is so great because it can really fill a space without having to turn it up even that high.
- My only complaint with this Speakers sound is that the Move really has one forward firing speaker. So it's apparent that you get the best sound when you are facing the front side of the speaker compare to the back or even sides. I will say this isn't an issue when it's stationary in your home and the sound quality is so high that it still makes a room sound great, but it just would have been nice if they had more of a 360 degree effect for outdoor situations like other portable speakers do.
- As far as Google Home integration, it's like you are using a Google Home as it will do almost everything that a normal Google Home will do (there are a few minor settings that actual Google Homes have that the Move doesn't but it's a non-issue for me). The Microphone button on top also works as a Toggle button to turn on/off the Mic in case you don't want it listening which is a nice feature to have
BOTTOM-LINE:
- If you are a Smart Home User that loves music at home and on the go, this is an absolute must have. The sound quality alone beats out any Smart Home Speaker I have heard of while still remaining relatively small and out of the way. Even with being such a great sounding smart home speaker, you can literally take this on the go whether it's around the house or backyard which will still stay connected to WiFi, or brave the elements on the go since its super durable and can connect with Bluetooth. I really think the Sonos Move is a homerun and you will be very satisfied!

Sonos Incredible Audio with Bluetooth Connectivity

I have been a user of Sonos speakers for a few years now and I have always been very impressed with the quality of the sound that Sonos speakers have become known for. One thing though has been lacking until now. Bluetooth support. Sonos Move is the portable speaker that intends to close this feature gap that so many users have been looking for Sonos to provide. Sonos Move is a portable speaker with a discrete and innovative charging base, that allows for up to 10 hours of wonderful audio. In addition to bringing Bluetooth to Sonos, the Sonos Move can be used on Wi-Fi when available, even pairing two Sonos Move speakers to provide stereo audio. Sonos Move is also designed to go where you go and do so without you needing to worry about the weather or dust particles getting in the way of your fun. Take it to the beach with an IP56 rating for weather resistance and protection from dust particles. The Sonos Move is a little larger and as a result, maybe heavier, than I expected although this is easily forgotten once you hear the powerful sound that it is capable of. I'm seriously considering getting another Sonos Move to pair for stereo although it would have been nice if this was supported when connecting via Bluetooth. Pairing two Sonos Move speakers is supported on Wi-Fi though.

The product itself is great, I love Sonos. However the “open box” system with Best Buy Must be broken. My Sonos came in dirty on the bottom like it had been outside in the grass and had a dent in the front side. “open box, excellent” must mean a completely different thing now a days. It was packages so poorly in its original Sonos box, able to move and slam around in the box like a cardboard piece was missing inside. This is probably where the damage came from. Not returning because I don’t want to wait for another system, but disappointed in BestBuys screening process of returned goods. Please do better.

Quite disappointed, the Move is advertised as heavy duty and being able to resist falling from a table; that convinced me to pay a few more $ over the Bose equivalent. Not sure if bad luck or what, it is a very heavy speaker and it fell from my hand when picking it up from a table, top panel is broken and unresponsive. Speaker works but buttons do not. Contacted their support and they do not offer repairs, and just offered a small discount on a replacement unit.
I was not expecting them to replaced for free but somehow stand on the “heavy duty” marketing around the speaker (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3fiSFjaKXcQ).
Sound is good.

Water, dust, and drop resistant
Supports Google Assistant and Alexa
Includes automatic Trueplay tuning

Volume buttons don’t light up
Midrange slightly weak
Tons of options get complicated with limited instructions
Battery indicator only shows up when the battery is low
For fans of Sonos that have been wanting a portable speaker, Sonos finally answered with the Move. The Move is a portable speaker offering a ton of features and is targeting higher end customers.
Design and Features
The design is understated. If you have seen other Sonos speakers and how the style is very simple, then you get the idea. The matte black color is a little different than the rest of the lineup. Early reports say they chose the particular shade of black to help keep the speaker cooler in the sun but it’s still black so only time will tell if this is true. It’s IP56 water and dust resistant for use outdoors. It has a downward firing tweeter, mid-range woofer, and far field microphones. It’s just a little under 10 inches tall and has capacitive microphone mute, play/pause, volume up, and volume down button on top. Inside the carrying handle, which is handy considering its weight, are a power button, Bluetooth/Wi-Fi button, and Join Button. Inside the front of the speaker grill is a power and battery indicator, which only seems to light up when the battery is low. You charge it via a charging cradle, but Sonos mercifully realized we don’t want to carry that on the go and included a USB-C charging port on the back as well. No need to bring another charger in your car. A nice touch is that the battery is replaceable. The specifications say it lasts for 900 charges or about 3 years. After that point, you can purchase a replacement and install it yourself. If you would like to have portable stereo sound, the Move can be paired with one more Move. It will not pair with any other Sonos speaker. It supports too many streaming services and protocols to list. More than likely it will support your favorites.
Performance and Usage
Sound quality can be very subjective, but it’s hard to argue with the fact that the Sonos Move sounds like a much larger speaker than it is. Depending on the room it is placed in, the amount of bass it can generate can be surprising. Even when compared to larger portable speakers, the sound output was not only louder, but more refined. The automatic Truetone is supposed to adjust the sound based on the area. Although it was difficult to recognize any difference with it on or off, the speaker was able maintain good quality sound even outdoors. Of course, there are limits to what you can do in such a small package. You aren’t going to be getting any hard-hitting bass and mid tones seem slightly muted but mid-bass and highs were good. Overall, the sound quality is quite pleasant for such a small package. People are often surprised when you show them that this little speaker is what they are listening to.
Although it was hard to tell how well the microphones worked for automatic Truetone, its safe to say they worked very well for the integrated assistant role. Google Assistant had no problems hearing commands clearly and responding correctly.
Overall, the Sonos Move is well thought out and feels like a quality product. Like every product, it still has room for improvement. The app feels overly simple to start where it doesn’t initially even help you set up your preferred assistant. Once you dig deeper, you will find many options broken down into confusing sections with options buried several layers deep within. There is the option to download the manual from the website, but it seems like some careful planning and renaming of options could do a lot to improve navigation. In other areas, it’s just assumed you know features and they don’t tell you about them while labeling buttons with non-standard graphics. For example, volume up and down or both a set of four squares. This means the two buttons look identical and unlike the mic and play/pause button, the volume buttons don’t light up. Something else you likely won’t realize unless you dig through the manual is swiping left or right between the volume buttons will skip forward or back a track. Once you know it, it’s not a big deal but a small adjustment to the graphics or even a single page graphic in the app could fix this.
Final Thoughts
Sonos has never been known to be a budget brand or the ultimate of high-end audio but rather somewhere in the middle. Of course, if you are a Sonos fan and want a portable speaker, the Move will provide the same type of experience you love. If you are in the market for a portable speaker and you value compact size with good sound and build quality, thoughtful features, and don’t mind spending a little extra for it then the Move is also worth checking out.

Bought open box excellent condition rated item but it's dented, scratched, and missing everything. The charger is $80. How anyone decided this was in excellent condition clearly shows they don't care and have bad QC. This is what best buy said excellent open box items are:

I purchased the Move about 3 weeks ago and have been very pleased thus far. The sound quality is excellent (maybe now quite as good as my high end wired speakers, but still pretty amazing). It is very portable - some reviewers have commented about it being a bit too heavy. While I agree that it might be a chore to take on a long hike, it is certainly no issue taking outside or to any room in the house The volume is impressive for such a small unit. The bass is good too - and not to overpowering like some portables that feel the need to go overboard with bass. Setting it up is very easy (I'm probably a bit older than most of the reviewers and even I had no problem). I recently switched streaming services from YouTube Premium to Apple Music; both work great with the Move although Alexa doesn't appear to be an Apple Music fan via this device causing me to use the Move app on my phone to pick which Apple Music station, album, or playlist that I want to stream
Overall, this is proving to be as good as I thought it would be from the reviews and from the recommendation of my friends. I look forward to getting more experience with it - and to taking it out by the pool when the weather warms up.

Sonos misses the mark with the portable speakers. I purchased about 8 months ago. The unit would no longer turn on. Took it to Best Buy they told me i had to just get a replacement under the warranty. The replacement cost me a extra $120 what a complete rip off. The home theater gamsvtgey are top notch, portable speakers need more development. Just get a JBL MUCH CHEAPER.

It’s disappointing to have charging issues after only six months, especially when the sound has been so impressive. You might want to try a different charging cable or power source to see if that helps. If the problem continues, contacting Sonos support would be a good next step, especially if your device is still under warranty. You can find help and more from support.sonos.com

I own several other Sonos devices as well as portable speakers that my kids always steal from me - so I was excited to get the Sonos Move. As expected, the device didn't disappoint and will be my go-to portable speaker.
Taking it out of the box, it came wrapped in a soft cloth bag and well packed. It consisted of the speaker itself and a charging/dock ring. I immediately placed it on the charging ring and began setup.
Setup didn't NOT go smoothly though. I constantly received errors in the setup process as the software tried to perform an update first thing. Eventually, I had to delete the Sonos app completely from my phone and reinstall it from the app store. Maybe the version I had was too old, and although frustrating, I eventually got it to work. That's the reason for 4 stars.
Once the new app was installed and everything was updated, it worked flawlessly. It easily maintains it's 10 hour play time and sounds full and rich. The Sonos Move has new features like:
- Auto-tune the sound to your room based on it's 4 microphones
- Bluetooth mode for when you are out of WiFi range to stream from
your phone (note that you lose smart-speaker functionality in
bluetooth mode)
- IP56 rating for dust and water
- USB-C port for charging on the go (without the ring)
- Suspend mode (to conserve battery for up to 120 hours)
- Smart assistant features via wifi (Amazon and Google)
Overall, I really like the speaker but it can be a little hard to carry as it takes a full hand and doesn't allow you to carry anything else.

AirPlay 2! Plays well with HomePod

Plays well with HomePods via AirPlay 2!
Already used it as a speaker for both my AppleTV and Apple Music; and it sounds amazing!! Arguably, I would say it sounds slightly better in the bass compared to HomePod. For me, that is huge to say because I’m a big Apple fan.
Of course the big advantage that this speaker has over a HomePod is the ability to be completely portable, and plays via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. It is very easy to switch between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Simply push the connectivity button on the back of the speaker, one time, and it will switch between each connectivity. No need to go into your Bluetooth or WiFi settings. Once you have it setup, it’s as easy as switching to your preferred connectivity.
When playing through Bluetooth, I do not notice any major difference in playability. Music sounds just as great on Bluetooth as it does on Wi-Fi. One advantage of playing on Wi-Fi might be the ability to listen to lossless music, since it requires more data to stream.
Turning ON and OFF as simple as well. It’s a simple click once and it’s either on or off. No nonsense of holding down the button just to turn off your speaker.
The controls on the top of the speaker are easy enough to pause, play, skip, go back, or even adjust the volume.
The one thing I find annoying is that it does require the app to download in order to initiate the use of the speaker. A few manufacturers are now doing this as a way to deter theft, as it requires you to register for a Sonos account and register the product. However, once the product is registered, all the features are enabled and ready for use. If you’re planning to connect to Wi-Fi, you will need to know your Wi-Fi password so that your speaker can connect to your router.
This speaker also has the ability to connect to an additional Sonos move to play in stereo when connected via Bluetooth. Of course, if you’re using Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2 will allow you to connect a limitless amount of AirPlay 2 compatible speakers.
I know the price is a little up there, but let me tell you, it is well worth it. I’m actually thinking of purchasing a second speaker even though this speaker was purchased as my wife’s birthday gift, since she teaches hula lol. It’s a double benefit. Additional home speaker and her music speaker when she needs to use it for hula practice.

We're truly sorry to hear that your Sonos Move has stopped taking a charge, especially after careful use both indoors and on your deck. The issue with the red indicator lights fading could point to a charging or battery-related problem.
Here are a few troubleshooting steps that may help resolve the issue:
Check the Charger: Ensure that the charging cable and base are working properly. Try using another USB-C charger that meets the specifications (USB-PD with a minimum of 18W) to see if that resolves the issue.
Clean the Charging Contacts: Dirt or debris on the charging contacts can sometimes interrupt the charging process. Gently clean the metal contacts on both the Move and the charging base using a dry cloth.
Perform a Soft Reset: Press and hold the power button on the back of the Sonos Move for at least 10 seconds, then release. The speaker should power off and reboot.
Test Direct Power Connection: If the red light continues to fade, try connecting the charger directly to the Move (without using the charging base) to see if it can charge via the cable alone.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, and the unit is still under warranty, we recommend contacting Sonos support at support.sonos.com for further assistance or a potential replacement.
We apologize for the inconvenience, and we're here to support you through the process.

Another Great Sonos Product

I'm an unapologetic Sonos fan - the Beam was my gateway product into the Sonos ecosystem. Now, my system consists of a Beam in the bedroom, theater room with a Sonos Arc, Sub, Play: One Surrounds, and a stereo pair of One's in my office.
But I've always had my eye on the Sonos Move since it was released. I love the sound quality and mobile app that Sonos provides, but the Move is unique in that it's Sonos's only wireless speaker. It has a built in battery and the ability to toggle between WiFi and Bluetooth, meaning you can take the Sonos Move wherever you want.
The Sonos Move is not waterproof - but it is splash resistant. I would recommend not making a habit of getting it wet, but like other Sonos speakers, it's strong enough to handle being around a shower in the bathroom, or a pool outside in terms of humidity.
I also chose the white because I think white looks better for portable components - while I use black for stationary ones like the Beam or the Arc.
Battery life is good - I've never had the battery run out while listening. I'm not too sure if using it over WiFi or Bluetooth burns battery life more. The Sonos Move also supports AirPlay 2, and you can also group this with other speakers in the Sonos app, so you can take the party with you all over your network.
I've also learned that Sonos plans to bring out a smaller version of the Move - which is cool, because the Move's only real drawback is it's size / weight. It's certainly heftier than other Bluetooth speakers, but there's also a concave handle in the back for easy carrying.

Long awaited battery powered great sounding speaker that is part of my ever growing Sonos ecosystem. Easy setup, great base, and substantial volume all a big plus. Only issue seems to be some limited range outdoors. Going to contact Sonos tech support to see if there’s anyway to improve it. I recently purchased the Sonos Move Smart Portable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Speaker, and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations on every front. This powerful speaker has become an integral part of my daily routine, providing an unmatched audio experience wherever I go.
First and foremost, the sound quality of the Sonos Move is truly exceptional. The speaker delivers rich, deep bass, crisp highs, and a well-balanced midrange that brings my music to life. Whether I'm playing energetic party tracks or mellow acoustic melodies, the speaker delivers an immersive and vibrant soundstage that never fails to impress.
What sets the Sonos Move apart from other portable speakers is its versatility. With both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, I can easily switch between streaming my favorite playlists directly from my smartphone or connecting to my home Wi-Fi network for seamless integration with other Sonos speakers in my house. The convenience of having both options at my disposal ensures that I can enjoy uninterrupted music wherever I am.
Another standout feature of the Sonos Move is its smart capabilities. Thanks to built-in Alexa and Google Assistant, I can control the speaker with simple voice commands. Whether I want to adjust the volume, skip tracks, or ask for the latest news updates, the Sonos Move responds promptly and accurately, making it a truly hands-free and user-friendly experience.
Durability is also a major plus point for this speaker. The Sonos Move's robust build quality and IP56 rating for water and dust resistance give me peace of mind, knowing that it can handle outdoor adventures, poolside parties, and even a bit of rough handling. I've taken it on camping trips, beach outings, and it has never let me down.
Lastly, the battery life of the Sonos Move is impressive.
