Received a play 3 for xmas last year and decided we liked it enough to get more. We purchased two play 1's and paired them and could not believe the stereo sound coming out of them. Sonos is working on voice activation and I hope they come up with a way to make some kind of device to allow the current series to be voice activated. HIGHLY Recommend this brand over Bose b/c of the wifi access and you do not need to Bluetooth them which can be a hassle if you still have a flip phone. App easy to use and allows for streaming on multiple stations in multiple rooms. Recommend upgrading your remote so you can use one remote for everything if you have not already and getting a playbar. Would recommend to anyone considering this type of audio device. Easy to install, use, and play.

I am a Sonos customer and I already own the Playbar and Sub. These little guys have become my surround speakers, and sometimes I group them as their own little player group, which is a function of the Sonos App on my iPad/iPhone/Mac. Here is what I think: The Good: >The sound from just the two (paired as a stereo pair using the Sonos app, is remarkable. >Great lows. >EASY to use with the Sonos App. >Easy to group with my existing Sonos components. >No moving thanks to the weight and the rubber bottom. >Option to turn off the LED for a more energy efficient experience. >Even when used without the Playbar but with the Sub, these guys make a significantly nice sound. Could be better: >Sonos devices do lose their grouping sometimes and you have to reprogram the whole system, which takes about 15-20 minutes. >No direct input for playing from another system, which means you have to play via their app, and sometimes their app and iTunes don't cooperate. I would absolutely buy these speakers again, and I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone shopping for consumer sound gear.

    Great Wireless Speaker for Home

Great sounding speaker for the size. Gets pretty loud and fills up a small to medium size room well. I have five Play1s in my house and 1 Play5. I was going back and forth between wireless speakers and bluetooth speakers for my new home. I liked the cordless freedom of bluetooth speakers but didn't want to have to turn on/off the speakers every time I started and stopped listening to music. I was also tempted by the flexibility of bluetooth speakers, being able to move them and take them anywhere if I wanted. However, at the end of day, I was buying the speakers for home use and my main goals were music playback throughout the house, sound quality, convenience, and stability. That's where the Sonos Ecosystem shines. You can easily group and ungroup your Sonos speakers to play the same music throughout the house or separate music from each speaker (I primarily use Spotify Premium to stream music), the speakers sound great for the size (I recommend two Play1s in a Stereo Pair if possible, but they sound very good by themselves as well), I don't have to fiddle with power switches every time I want to listen to music (majority of the time), and I haven't had any issues with music dropping or trouble streaming (in comparison, bluetooth range is very limiting and connection would go in and out often when moving throughout the house). The Sonos iOS app works pretty well, but I do have some annoyances. For example, I often switch rooms and want to move the music I'm listening to into the current room while stopping it in the other room; you have to open up the app, select the room dropdown, hit Group, choose the new room, then hit Done. While this can be done pretty easily, it becomes a bit cumbersome when you switch rooms frequently. Spotify Connect through the Spotify app has/had a great functionality where I could just hit the play/pause button on a speaker and it would switch the music over to that speaker/room. This worked great as I could just hit the button when I walked into a room. Unfortunately since then, I've had issues with the Spotify app and it constantly switches speakers and restarts songs. Hopefully they fix this soon with an app update. Until then, I've gone back to using the Sonos App, but like I mentioned, it's a bit cumbersome with how I like to manage music playback. Amazon Echo support is supposed to be coming out this year which could make things a lot easier if you have bought into the smart home route. Cons: -Need Wifi network - having a bluetooth option like the Bose Soundtouch would be nice -Portability not the best - somewhat heavy, has to be plugged in and needs wifi -Hardware buttons on speaker are very limited in functionality - imo they can incorporate more functionality with a future software update -Price - quite a bit more expensive than some bluetooth options, what you are really paying for is the Sonos Ecosystem and experience Overall I'm very satisfied with the Play1 speaker. I have one in my Master bedroom, one in my kitchen, one in my bathroom, two in a stereo pair in my office, and one Play5 in my family room. The Play5 hands down sounds much better (richer/fuller). However, for the price and size the Play1s are great for most applications and smaller/mid-sized rooms.

Amazing sound, simple app, but setup challenges

First and most important, this little Play:1 sounds amazing regardless of its size. Mids are sweet and clear. What surprised me was the quality of the bass. Sub-bass is of course light, but that's expected from smaller drivers. App is easy to use and integrates well with Apple iTunes as weel as Amazon Echo Dot. Challenge for me was during setup it recognized my nearest WiFi 2.4 GHz network, but just wouldn't sync up. After a time on the web, I went into my router admin and saw that I had turned Wireless G off since all of my other devices worked with N or above. took too long to get there, hence only 4 stars. The setup wizard should somehow better deal with this (maybe recognize the network is not confiured for G?).

    Sonos - Streaming Music Dream

I have invested heavily in Sonos speakers, with 8 Play 1's throughout my home as well as a Play Sub in my lower level living room (grouped with a pair of Play 1's). These speakers are scattered in the house to provide music through the entire house. Sonos require only a power wire, as they connect via wi-fi. I have a Sonos Boost to create in independent network, with the hope of minimizing any interference with my other devices (I've had zero issues to date). The Sonos app works great and allows you to select either a streaming service or your music library to play to a specific speaker (or a group of speakers, or all speakers). The sound quality is solid and with the addition of "True Play," I feel that sound quality continues to get better with software updates. I have tweaked the EQ to bring them to life, by bumping bass by 4 and treble by 6. These little speakers pack a punch. Bass is decent, and the highs are great. Although the speakers are small in size, they weigh a fair amount. These "feel" like quality speakers, and the build is great. The sound is wonderful. I'm no audiophile as most of my library of 35k tracks are between 128-320kbs, but I am impressed by the convenience and will continue to buy these. They rarely are on sale, but have found Sonos runs promotions near Black Friday and Year-End. I'd like to add a couple Play 5s and a Playbar when I invest in a new TV.

The Sonos Play 1 is the best wireless speaker that money can buy. Tight bass and clear highs in a compact package. Very simple setup and great control via the Sonos app.

I bought a pair of the play 1's to have stereo in another room, but I have been using 1 in two different rooms. Even running them as mono they produce a room filling sound, and if I decide that I would like stereo, I just go to the master bedroom and unplug the play 1 and move it to the living room, tell the sonos system that I want to play stereo. Go out and touch the volume up button on the left speaker, and just that simple I have stereo. Although the Play 3 & 5 had a larger richer sound in the store these play 1's would great, combined with the connect amp in the basement I can fill the house with sound.

Outstanding product - I replaced a 30 pin speaker dock in our kitchen with a stereo pair of these. Easier to use and more convenient than physically docking, and more reliable than the AirPlay receiver I previously tried. Within a few weeks, I've added more Play:1's, a Play:5 and a Connect:Amp with some outdoor speakers on the patio. Sonos is now my alarm clock and I've replaced a white noise app with a local media playlist on my NAS. More importantly, when I get home from work, my wife has music playing throughout the house - the system is intuitive enough that my wife doesn't think it's too much hassle to bother with.

These speakers work really well, sound great and are easy to set up and pair. We've taken them outside by the pool and they produce great sound over the waterfalls in the pool. The only downside is I wish I could play my audio book through it. It only plays things that will sync through the Sonos app. Other than that they are awesome!
