great price, still great Sonos quality
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own 4 other play 3's at my home, and needed a smaller speaker for an open dining room area. I decided the play 3 would be too much for an open area like that. I decided to give the play 1 a shot with the mindset that I would have to return it due to bad sound from such a small sepeaker. I was amazed from the initial opening of the package by the weight of the speaker. It was impressively heavy, so I said it might have a fighting chance of staying. I plugged her in and easily connected (just like all Sonos speakers) it, and wow! I think the placement does a huge favor with this product as I placed it in a boxed corner and the sound was as bassey as the Play 3's I have. I actually had to make sound settings to get the best possible sound.

Great little speakers!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There's not much for me to say that hasn't already been said. I bought a 2nd Play 1 to sterro pair with a Play 1 I already had. I plan to add the Subwoofer to them in the future. While you can't really compare these to Martin Logan, Def Tech, or Klipsch, for their size and the fact that they're wireless, you can't beat their sound quality. Additionally, while they are a little pricey, when you include all the features and services available, they are actually a pretty good deal. I have been using various Sonos products for years. The only issue I have ever had was when I hooked them up via my wifi network. Sometimes different players or devices would disappear. Once I hardwired one device to my network and used Sonos' proprietary network, it has been rock solid. I highly recommend Sonos in general and Play 1s in specific.

Excellent Speaker
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sonos Play:1 speakers are an excellent choice for entry into the Sonos family. Setup is a breeze, the sound quality is excellent, and the for a small speaker the volume is impressive. I've since put this with another Play:1 and a Play:3 and the main level of my home is rockin'. The Play:1 is portable enough for me to bring into the lower level for workouts. The wireless is via wi-fi, so there is no Bluetooth issues. I can control what is playing from any of my devices, iPhone, iPad, Mac. I'm very pleased with this product, and would highly recommend.

You only thought you were an audiophile...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. You only thought you were an audiophile before you owned a sonos player/system. I find myself agreeing with one review I found online...that sonos speakers make you feel like, "yes, as a matter of fact, we could use a speaker in this closet!". Once you buy one, you will probably end up with many. I currently have 5 play 1, a connect and playbar. All are amazing!! Some things are not built in features (like the ability to play any app you want over the speakers--as in through bluetooth for example), but a simple bluetooth adapter plugged into the connect makes the whole world your musical stage. These players allow you to connect your music stored on your computer to any speaker in the house, allow you to access it remotely if you have it saved to a sharable folder. Really I can't say enough good things about sonos and the two negatives I have found so far, are far outweighed by the ability to listen to my old records through the system, listen to tapes, cds, digital music files, and loads of streaming radio apps. The controller is a simple app that works through a phone...really, other than the bluetooth problem, which I have rectified with a bose bluetooth adapter hooked to my connect, and the inability of it to play audio being played on your computer throughout the house on the sonos (which I have also rectified using the jamcast app downloaded to my computer), I have had only good experiences with my sonos's!! Have I said that I love this yet? Cuz I do!

Small, powerful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm using these as surround-sound speakers in a setup that includes a PlayBar and Sub. I didn't think they'd make much difference to the sound we were already getting in a weirdly shaped room, but they definitely have made an impact. Pros: Good surround sound, easy setup, small footprint. Cons: My dog now freaks out at every explosion and rainstorm on TV, even when I have it turned down.

Excellent choice for Sonos systems
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound - better than Play3 - in a moisture resistant small package. If I were building my Sonos system today, I'd us these everywhere instead of the larger and more than expensive units.

Excellent sound
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been looking for a wireless speaker that would let the nuances of music shine through. I’ve tried smaller Bluetooth speakers and a corded speaker, all of which left something to be desired. I received this Sonos for Christmas and I cannot recommend it enough. The music comes through crystal clear and I can hear the nuances of the music. It’s easy to pick out the individual instruments and catch the subtle background sounds. The sound just fills the room. The app is easy to use. I like this so much, I’m planning on getting another one for another room. I really like that I can have music on and still take a call on my cell phone without interrupting the music. I like the idea of being able to have different songs on in different rooms too, all from my phone.

Great speaker provides multi-zone capability
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really surprised by my Sonos Play 1 speaker. The sound quality is good and the speaker was easy to setup. The great thing with Sonos is that it can be used as a multi-zone system. You can set things up such that each speaker can play different music. We originally purchased one speaker, but have since added another along with a Sonos Connect so that we can use Sonos as a source for our receiver, which leads to one negative comment - the cost of the Connect devices; those are just too expensive. However, overall the system is pretty awesome and can be controlled from your phone and streamed from somewhere else, such as your own NAS (network attached storage) device.

Wow!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Spectacular sound in a small box. I will never go back to Bose again. Can't say enough good about the sound quality, the size, and the durability (we actually have them outside under a covered patio). Steep price, but really adds to our house.

Amazing Sound System
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased 3 Sonos speakers and went back the same day to purchase 3 more. We placed the small speaker under the deck next to the hot tub and the sound is amazing. They are easy to set up and small enough to fit anywhere. We highly recommend.

Easy to use, small, great sound quality for size
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start off by saying I have had my doubts about Sonos ever since they introduced their first network speaker. At the time, I thought that Bluetooth speakers would be the future as you could just take the speaker to any room you wanted. I didn't see the convenience in buying a speaker and having it sit there waiting for you to use it. But Sonos released speaker after speaker and update after update. Still, when the time came to buy a network speaker, I went with the Bose SoundTouch 10. It was the same price as the Play:1, sounds better, is about the same size, and Bose promised that they would add more music services (I use Google Music All Access and Apple Music) to their SoundTouch speakers. Fast forward a year later and Bose added Amazon music and Deezer while Sonos added more than a dozen music services and continues to add more. I sold my SoundTouch and invested in the Sonos Play:1, I definitely won't be going back to Bose. The Play:1 is extremely easy to setup, all I had to do was plug the speaker in, download the Sonos app, push two buttons at the same time on the speaker, and I was all set to go. I ended up plugging the speaker directly into one of my Wi-Fi stations. I have Google Wi-Fi and didn't want to slow the network down by having a 2.4GHz 802.11g device on it. I really wish Sonos would update their speakers to at least 2.4GHz 802.11n. It's ridiculous that a network device, in 2017, doesn't have 2.4GHz 802.11n let alone 802.11ac. But this can be overcome by plugging the speaker directly into your Wi-Fi router. It will then broadcast a Sonos Boost signal that all other Sonos speakers can connect to without slowing down your main Wi-Fi. The lack of more advanced Wi-Fi is one reason why I took one star off of my rating. The other is audio quality. Don't get me wrong, the audio quality for this is pretty good. It really is a small speaker and can really crank things out. It's a lot better than the built-in speakers with Google Home or Amazon Echo units. But, when compared to the SoundTouch 10, it lacks bass and the highs can be a bit harsh at times. But those are my only complaints. Sonos makes things dead simple with their app and there are tons of services they work with. I was able to add my Google Music and Apple Music accounts without issues. My wife was even able to add her Google Music and Apple Music accounts so that we can switch between the two from within the Sonos app. It's a great feature and means that you aren't tied to one account per service (especially since my wife and I listen to different music). The Sonos Play:1 is a great introduction to network speakers. It's dead simple to setup, offers good (but not great) room filling sound quality for its size, and odds are high it will work with your music service. I recommend either plugging at least one of these into your Wi-Fi router (especially if you have Google Wi-Fi as there are known issues when having Sonos speakers wirelessly connect to Google's mesh network) or buying a Sonos Boost accessory. Doing so will give you a large Sonos network all throughout your house allowing you to connect multiple speakers. I currently have three Play:1 speakers and a Playbase all connected together. I can play the same thing (even TV audio) across all of them or play different content on each one. Sonos did a great job making diminutive hardware that blends in (unless you get the white speaker). This is an easy recommendation for anyone who either wants to expand their Sonos network but doesn't need a larger speaker or they want to buy their first network speaker. Just be warned: these are addictive. It's easy to buy one after the other filling your whole house with audio.

Great Pair
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, do not expect the Play:1 to have comparable sound quality to it's larger (and pricier) brethren. It's not a fair comparison and you will be disappointed. Second, if you're an audiophile, the Play:1 will not meet your expectations so don't expect them to be something they can't. That said, I got a pair of Play:1 speakers for my living room. It's a large room but the pair easily carry the room for what I want and need. The mid and high ranges are really good and although they are small, they have decent enough bass for general listening levels, but with higher volumes the bass gets mushy. This is fine for me since my rocking out is now limited to my car, by myself... The sound is surprisingly good for a small unit, even with more complex and subtle material. I would expect a single Play:1 would be decent in a smaller room but think for a larger room, you should consider a pair or if you need better sound quality go up to a Play:5. Even though I find the units to be attractive, they do keep a low profile and are very inconspicuous in the room. The set up is typically easy, two minutes to fully paired and playing. It helps that my bridge and application were already set up, but add three minutes if this is your first Sonos component. The applications still leave a lot to be desired, but once you're used to the quirks and numerous clicks required to actually play music, you probably won't object so much, the versatility and convenience will more than make up for it. Sonos is a great system and the Play:1 is a great addition to the model line. I have a Play:5, Play:3 and now a pair of Play:1s, and I love them.

Great speaker!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Went to visit a family member who had a whole house system and we loved it. Bought the play 1 for Christmas and we use it all the time. Love to stream music from our PCs. Little pricey so we will build up to a whole house system.

entry level Sonos
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a Boost, a Connect & two Play:1 speakers a few weeks ago. Setup was dead simple (a couple of minutes per device) and Sonos performance has been excellent. I've extended the usefulness of my old school stereo equipment. I'm still tweaking Play:1 speaker placement but sound is great for such small speakers. My house is not wireless-friendly, but I've experienced no drop outs to date. Boost is hard-wired to a switch on ground floor in center of house, Connect and speakers are at far ends, through thick stone walls. Local NAS-based music and internet radio stream flawlessly - however be aware BBC has changed streaming format and currently is buggy (see Sonos support pages). We plan to add to this system incrementally. So far, a great purchase - listening to MORE music.
