Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Play:5 Wireless Speaker's superb sound quality, ease of use, and strong bass. Many also appreciate its straightforward setup and attractive design, although some find the price to be high. A few users noted the speaker's weight and some compatibility issues with certain devices. Overall, the positive feedback on audio performance outweighs the negative comments regarding cost and compatibility.

    Terrible WIFI software

I had initially bought a pair of Sonos 1, which worked fine as surround speakers with a TV set. Based on that experience, I bought a pair of Sonos Play 5 to use mainly for playing music from my Iphone. Unfortunately, they do not work well with my music library and the Iphone. The WIFI connection drops regularly, and despite trying different WIFI channels, the Sonos do not play without interruption. This is obviously a known issue as it is not covered by the Sonos warranty which mentioned explicitly it does not guarantee it will work with WIFI. I wish this would have been mentioned when I purchased this product. Perhaps Sonos in time will be able to fix this software issue.

    Do not buy Sonos

For the better part of a year Sonos has known about the problems with streaming from your phone and done nothing to rectify the issues. They sell these products and claim that you can play music straight from your phone and still take phone calls and use your phone as you normally would. This IS NOT the case. Music will constantly skip your songs while playing from your phone. There is no fix for this and Sonos will just offer excuses when you contact support. Sonos speakers are VERY EXPENSIVE and DO NOT OPERATE the way that they claim they will. Don’t get suckered into these products and flush money down the toilet. DO NOT BUY SONOS!!!!

What you buy is not what you get

My Play:5 is now a brick with no remedy from Sonos support. It worked immediately after I bought it, but a subsequent "update" removed support for configuring the system from Windows and Mac OS X. I repeat, you *cannot configure the Sonos from these platforms*. Since these are the platforms I have access to, I now own a $500 paperweight. Support has been useless after five rounds of back and forth. Avoid this product - they may choose to invalidate *your* platform next, and you will have no recourse.

    Technical Blackmail Ahead

As a Sonos speaker owner I can no longer, in good conscience, endorse the purchase of any Sonos products. They are obsoleting speaker products purchased as recently as 2015 as of May 2020. Buyer beware.

Thank you for the feedback and for being a loyal Sonos owner! It is important to note that we are not making any of our products obsolete with the end of software updates in May. We are ending software updates for our oldest players which includes Connect and Connect:Amp manufactured through 2015. In order to determine if you have an impacted player you can log onto your Sonos account at sonos.com, select My Account > System Check and be told exactly what players are considered legacy.

If you have any legacy products on your system, your experience with Sonos will not be impacted initially in May. In fact, we do not expect any immediate impact from ending software updates. We do want to be clear that the functionality of features and services, particularly music services and voice partners, may change as technology evolves over time.

You can find the full list of impacted products and a deeper explanation of this change on the Sonos blog at https://blog.sonos.com/en/end-of-software-updates-for-legacy-products/! john.milton

    Lousy for college

Don't buy this to use at college as it won't connect to college wifi. Unless you are an expert with router don't try to hook it up to college to a router in a dorm as it won't work especially if it was hooked up before at home.
