I should have trusted the other review that reports sound being muffled as this is exactly the feeling. The 150$ Sonos One produce a better sound. I do not have the woofer but that is nothing to do with the sound quality. Very disappointed.

This product is to improve TV sound and that it does...but for the high price expected more. I don’t think it is any better or worse than the similar Bose product. If I had to do it over again I would go with the soundbar and get the complete system.

This is a great piece of equipment, however it does not begin to sound like the one in the store. It turns out you need a $600 Sub-Woofer and (2 )300 rear speakers to make it sound really good. I did not know I needed to spend another $1,000 on top of the $700 plus!

Very nice unit. It is not loud enough for me. It does pair very well with other Sonos. This is a very limited use speaker. It works with your TV quite well, but that is all it works well with. You cannot connect with a bluetooth device ie, Amazon Echo or Dot.

I rarely ever write reviews for items I purchase, but I felt inclined to because of how much I paid for this one. For the first two months the soundbase sounded wonderful. I could barely use it at half volume because they we so loud so normally I’d have the volume around 30-40%. While watching a movie one day I noticed it sounded a little distorted. I turned it up a little more and the sound just got worse. I don’t know if this is an isolated situation, but I feel conned out of my money.

The Playbase should sound just as good two months (and beyond) in as it did when you first set it up! Please contact our customer support either by phone, through e-mail, or on social media (all contact information can be found at sonos.com/support) and we will get to the bottom of the change in sound! john.milton

Major Audio Sync Issue with LG OLED TV

I purchased the sonos playbase along with a LG OLED TV B7...was really excited about how this overall upgrade was going to make my living room amazing. After watching the NCAA tournament and some other sporting events...which is mostly all I watch...I was really pleased. Now watching the masters there are more face to face interviews. And the lag in Audio Lip Sync is HORRIBLE. I've tried everything in the settings...then started googling the issue...and wouldn't you know it...everybody has it. And there hasn't been any fix...and people started reporting the issue over a year ago with the Playbar...obviously it carried over to the Playbase. How in the world would a company that charges as much for their product as Sonos let this issue go unresolved??? Very disappointing. And now that I'm focused on the audio lag it is exponentially worse once you are focused on it. Horrible Experience and feeling stuck with a poor product.

Do not buy this product. Read customer threads as my problem is common with Sonos products. Worked great for a while and now I can barely hear it at 100%. Sonos support can’t fix it and wouldn’t give me a straight answer. Look it up online. Tons of people have the same issue. Stay away from Sonos. $760 down the drain. Unbelievable that they can’t find a fix for this problem with so many people having the same issue. Looks great but terrible tech and support. Wanted to warn others before wasting their hard earned money. Massive disappointment and Best Buy should not be selling this to people.

All Sonos speakers must have a constant connection via wired internet to the Sonos Server. Sonos speaker WILL NOT CONNECT to via a hotspot, so you cannot use the system on a houseboat or RV. I learned this the hard way, after buying a sub, play base and 2 SL’s AND spending 2+ hours on phone with customer support.

    First Sonos Purchase

I was in the market to purchase a soundbar for my new 55" Samsung KS8000 that I purchased a few months ago. The sound of my TV was ok, but with such a beautiful picture, I wanted the right sound to match it. I started doing extensive research, reading reviews, looking at videos, etc. The Sonos company came up as a brand that is dedicated to hifi sound, so I started to compare their soundbar system vs other competitors at the same price point of $699. The only 3 that stuck out were the Bose SoundTouch 300, Sonos Playbar, and the new Sonos Playbase. At most Best Buy stores they have all of the 3 I mentioned on display. At first, I was really impressed with the Bose SoundTouch 300 without the Bose Sub, it sounded crisp and made you feel part of the movie. Then on to the Sonos Playbase, it was good but not as impressive as the Bose, I thought the Bose was a better sounding system in store. I don't like to just buy stuff on the spot, so I went back to do further research on the Bose and how well it works with my current TV and there were alot of complaints on their consumer boards. One thing to consider is that the systems set up in store are not calibrated to the room in your house where you will be setting it up. I was not looking for a surround system just for the loudness of it, but for the quality of the sound and Sonos just kept coming up as one of the best in the market. I finally pulled the trigger and purchased the Sonos Playbase at Best Buy last week. The set up at home was very simple, including the Calibration which they call True Play. The sound is very nice, the dialouge is clear and the detail is really good. Even though it has a built in sub woofer the bass is not room shaking but nice enough to make you feel those action scenes in movies, that is why they sell a seperate Sub for another $699. I cranked it up to the loudest setting and the system still is able to perform well with no distortions. I really like the Sonos app and the ability to stream music wirelessly with no interruptions. Many people will complain that Sonos does not support anything but Dolby Digital 5.1, but that is the most used surround sound for any streaming service currently. If you have alot invested in physical media, then this is not the system for you becuase you will not get DTS X or Dolby ATMOS supported and this will be impossible to update in order to receive this type of audio signal. Since I no longer own any DVD, Bluray, or HD Bluray's, Dolby 5.1 is sufficient for me for streaming purposes. I will be saving up to make this a truly 5.1 system by purchasing a pair of Sonos Play 1 and the Sonos Sub in the future. I chose the Playbase vs the Playbar because of the form factor, it is slimmer, I do not have my TV hung on the wall, it comes with a small sub built in, and it took Sonos almost 3 years of research to put this product out (unlike other companies who refresh their products every year or so and make you feel like you bought a prototype when the new one comes out). Hope this review helps out those considering buying the Sonos Playbase, to help you with further research look at the Sonos release video of the Playbase, it is about an hour or so long but with helpful information.

The system works well when plugged directly to its source via optical cable. Good luck switching to Apple TV or another WiFi sound option. Good concept but very frustrating from a functional standpoint.

It's an expensive piece of home theatre equipment that they say sounds as good as Bose. It does not! Plus it will not work with your TV remote like it's supposed to so you have to control the volume with your phone and that's a hassle Soni just don't use it anymore.

I had the Sonos Playbase for a little over a year (just beyond the manufacturer warranty). The Playbase worked great until the wi-fi card went out. After that, it didn’t work. Thankfully, I purchased a 2 yr Geek Squad warranty from BB. I was able to swap it and given a gift card for the remaining balance from the price difference. If you conduct an online search, you’ll see that the wi-fi card problem is a known issue.
