Posted .Hi there,
I understand you were disappointed with the sound quality of the Ray and felt it didn't justify the price. It's important to us that you have a positive Sonos experience. Here's what we can do:
Troubleshooting:
Placement: Speaker placement can drastically affect sound. Is the Ray on a shelf or enclosed space? Experiment with placement for potential improvement.
Room Acoustics: Room size and materials impact sound. Could you describe your room's setup?
Sound Settings: Explore the EQ settings (bass, treble) in the Sonos app for adjustments to your liking.
Alternatives:
If you're seeking a more robust sound experience, we might discuss upgrading to the Beam or Arc for a noticeable difference.

Compact Soundbar packs a punch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sonos Ray is a great compact soundbar from Sonos. This is a great choice if you have a small A (<40 inches) TV. Although it is small it still has great sound. Mounting options from Sonos are limited to a wall bracket (not included) or putting on or in an entertainment center. You can mount it above or below a wall mounted TV directly from the TV mount with 3rd party soundbar mounts. It is odd that Sonos did not foresee this as this soundbar is particularly suited to mount right under or above a TV due to its compact size. Audio connection is limited to optical only. There is WiFi and Ethernet for network connection. The soundbar packs all of Sonos great execution of soundbars and speakers into a small form factor. The Sonos App is available for IOS and Android, it is well laid out and easy to use. Trueplay assisted set-up optimizes the sound for any space. You have to use an iPhone to do this so if you have android borrow an iPhone to do the Trueplay setup, it is well worth it. The soundbar can be controlled with Google assistant or Alexa via wifi. You can stream Sonos radio to the soundbar from your phone which is included, there is a premium pay service that allows a wider selection of music, skipping tracks and more. You can link you own streaming music apps to Sonus like Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, Audible, Deezer, Pandora, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, Google Play Music, YouTube Music, and others. The setup was a breeze with the Sonos app. The one snafu is volume control. I use a fire stick to stream and a Samsung TV. I could not get the volume control to work with content streaming from the firestick but it works fine with content streaming from the TV itself or live tv. This is more of a Samsung problem as the remote does not seem to put out the IR needed when streaming from the firestick. The volume can be controlled with the Sonos app in this situation. A third party remote may solve this problem. The volume control can also be set up with Alexa or Google assistant. As for sound Sonos audio experience makes this one of the best budget soundbars. The Ray had a well rounded sound after Trueplay tuning. The voice enhancement technology really makes speech easier to hear and understand. As a music speaker it is on par with the best stand alone speakers. The base will not shake the room like systems with a sub-woofer but it will do. You can add a Sonos subwoofer but they are as expensive as the soundbar itself. Hopefully Sonos will come out with a paired Subwoofer for this bar for those who want it. Sonos already sells traditional rear speakers to pair with the Ray to create a surround sound set up. This soundbar is a great match for a smaller TV/ Smart TV with optical audio output. It is also great for a gaming system. An HDMI CEC connection would have been a little easier for more complex setups. In the end this soundbar produces great sound in a compact form factor.

Fits my audio lifestyle now and later
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love Sonos products. You cannot go wrong with them. You put one anywhere, and you can expect great sound coming from it. This Sonos Ray however, is also great, but chooses its elements. First, setting up is easy. I opened the Sonos App, hardwired the product to a router (you can do it through wifi too—but it’s always easier for me to directly wire this one—recognition is faster and the speaker is not bulky to carry from my router to my bedroom anyway), and it is set up in a breeze. Mind you, I have other Sonos products already, so it was very simple add. I have this 60 inch TV in the master bedroom that needed a nicer soundbar. I connected it using an optical cable and sound is easily set up. Now I wanted to control the volume through the TV—my worry is, that TV was using a Roku remote. But guess what? In the Sonos app, I was able to connect the remote easily by pointing the remote to the soundbar as suggested. Super fast and easy. I was initially worried since it was connected through optical, versus HDMI, and that it uses a different remote—but totally no hassle at all--no compatibility issues or anything. Good job, Sonos software! Now, for the sound, connected to the TV: it was crisp and can be loud without breaking. The sound was overall complete. Vocals were clear, thumps were solid, and mid range was easily distinguishable without trying hard to really focus on the audio. HOWEVER, the sound lacked wideness for me. It is able to project itself from that TV, but I don’t think it can support a TV bigger than this 60 incher without any support. How I say this because I am used to bigger soundbars and home theater systems. Do not get me wrong-- for a bedroom TV, this one is perfect. Like I said, the sound is complete in one Sonos soundbar especially if you want simplicity in your set up. Especially that my lady does not want clutter in the bedroom, this is more than enough sound without having other components. For those who expect to have an insane home theater experience, I think there is an opportunity for the Sonos Ray to shine. The good thing about the Sonos system is, you can add speakers. And it is just not adding speakers, it can easily add more Sonos speakers to your system to match the experience you want. Now the good thing is, this is really good speaker quality—which means, if you want the full home theater ride, this can be an awesome center speaker. If you can add two Sonos Ones as surround and then a subwoofer, this will be a monster of a system. Again, good piece as a stand alone and can be greater if you want more. Going back to my bedroom—MUSIC—oh this is why I love Sonos. I streamed an R&B song and it is like butter. I don’t even know how to explain how good this speaker sounds for music. It just sounds so powerfully full without overwhelming the room. I guess for the price point, you get a really good music speaker and a versatile tv soundbar that you can upgrade if you want a much bigger experience. It is actually a really good value if you think about it. You get a Sonos soundbar for a decent price with so much headroom for future proofing. It actually flexes to your lifestyle. Good job, Sonos hardware. I applaud Sonos for creating a product that is very versatile. It is high quality, it is of reasonable value, and it does not discriminate. It fulfills what I need without imposing features I will not need. I highly recommend.

Sonos design and sound at an amazing value
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a big fan of the Sonos ecosystem, much for the same reason I love Apple products...their products are easy to setup, look great and work very well. I've had various Sonos speakers throughout the years and have loved each one, so I was excited to give their new Ray soundbar a try. Like all Sonos products, the Ray is well packaged, with clear instructions and minimal fluff. It comes with the power cable and an optical cable..there is no HDMI connection...more on that later. Like all Sonos products, there is no remote, you have to use the app or the control center on your iPhone. Setting up the device was simple. Plug in the power, connect the optical cable and follow the easy to run instructions on the app. Within a minute, my speaker was ready to use. I adjusted the EQ to my liking and began using it. It's important to note that this soundbar is meant to replace your TV's internal speakers, not another, more robust sound bar. It's best in a smaller room, like a bedroom or an office, not in the living room. While you can expand the system with a sub and surrounds, those cost more than the soundbar alone. This is not meant to be the center of a large home theater setup. The does sound great for it's size, much better than more expensive systems I've heard from other brands. I find that it sounds best for live sports, but TV and movies sound great too, just don't expect much oomph, there is not much bass. LIke all new Sonos products, the Ray is equipped with Airplay 2 which is my preferred method of output for playing my Apple Music collection. Music sounds good, comparable to a couple of Sonos One's. My only gripe is the lack of HDMI connection. Sonos seems to be a very forward thinking company and using older tech like an optical connection seems a little backwards. I already had an HDMI cable run through my wall, I wasn't too thrilled that I would need to run another cable. Fortunately for me, Apple TV runs the show for me and I was easily able to connect my TV audio to the Ray via Airplay 2. The sound is perfect and there is no lag at all. If you have an Apple TV, this is the way to go. I am super happy with this Ray and will probably get one for my parents bedroom as they have more and more trouble hearing the TV.

Great Price For Great Sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sonos has been on the high side when it comes to price, but with that comes great sound and quality. With this Ray soundbar, you are getting great sound and quality for a reasonable price. It is a mid-sized soundbar that is 22” long, 4” wide and 3” high, that has an Ethernet port, digital optical port and power supply port. This comes with the power cord and digital optical cord. If you are looking for an HDMI hook up, this is not the soundbar for you. The only way to hook this up for sound is with the optical cord. It states this is best for a television that is 55” or less. You will need to install the Sonos S2 app onto your iPhone to set up the soundbar. The Sonos S2 app has a nice feature for your iPhone in that once the soundbar is plugged in the app senses it, will register it and walk you through the setup process. When using this with your iPhone, you can use TruePlay which will automatically adjust the balance of the sound to the room you are in. This is a great feature and makes it much easier than trying to adjust the treble and bass yourself. There is no separate subwoofer with this sound bar, but considering this is geared to a smaller home or apartment environment, you really don’t need it. This will push out enough bass to meet your needs without driving the neighbors crazy. I love all my Sonos devices and this one is set at a very reasonable price and does not disappoint.
