Clear, clean sound enhancement when combined with new Samsung OLED TV. Size is not overly large and complements TV well.

You Need Optical, There's No HDMI

The most important thing buyers should be aware of is that this does not have HDMI, only optical. The TV or PC to which you will be connecting must have optical. There's no HDMI option. Did I mention that there's no HDMI option? Did I mention that you must have optical? I'm guessing Sonos did this to keep the price down, but at what cost? There will surely be buyers who will not realize this at the time of purchase and will be sorely disappointed when they open the box and realize this. I'm not sure how much said cost savings is to Sonos, but it can't be worth the pain points of reviews knocking a star or two off an otherwise great sounding soundbar. Anyway, moving on, the Ray integrates well into a pre-existing S2 system without any hiccups. It sounds great (as all my Sonos products do) and has most of the features (though, again, things like Atmos are lacking at this lower price point). I think it would be perfect for the target audience, ie, smaller TVs in smaller rooms or gamers connecting to their PCs.

This device is amazing. It's is an easy set up an easy walk-through tutorial on how to use the product. The quality of the sound bar is unmatched to its competitors. I would recommend this product for anybody who is looking to have premium quality sound within their private home if you were also considering buying other products from this brand to make it more an immersive experience I can tell you that it is worth the price other products from this brand to make it more an immersive experience I can tell you that it is worth the price

I really was hoping to like this soundbar better than I did but too many things hold it back. First is the no HDMI. In the last 6 years of buying soundbars I haven't had a single one that didn't have an HDMI connection. Coming from a higher end vendor you really wouldn't expect them to not add support and go with a lower bandwidth input. Sure it's only stereo and that extra bandwidth would go to waste, but CEC controls wouldn't and the need of another remote. Forget about using an app to control sound, that's way more cumbersome than feeling buttons on a remote. Another is the need for an account to set up the device. I'm really getting tired of every device requiring you reveal who, what, where you are any time you want to do simple tasks. Higher end shouldn't have rely on data mining since they're already charging premium on the device itself. As for sound, it's a bit bassy and boxy at default settings. Lowering the bass and pushing treble up a bit balances out to a more natural sound. The downside is that you lose the bass - a sub would be able to pick up the slack. At this setting it's very pleasing, though. I don't like that there's no fine tuning the sound any further than simple bass/treble sliders. There's also no bluetooth. If you want to play music through these speakers it's wifi only. It's not a bad thing but not having to allow it network or internet access would be a big plus since it's just a speaker that has no need at all to connect to my network and especially not outside of my local network. It's a decent soundbar, but nothing I would ever buy for my main set up. It's good enough for my daughter's room or maybe as a standalone music speaker. Too many limitations make it not really shine like I had hoped it would.

Thank you for your review. Ray is designed for smaller TV rooms and for secondary TVs in a bedroom or office. Optical really shines in these situations because it's nearly ubiquitous on all TVs in the past 15 years, and it's fairly plug-and-play. Given its use of Optical, Ray can use any IR remote to control the soundbar's volume, which covers cable boxes, streaming device remotes, and most TVs. If a TV remote outputs RF or Bluetooth, some manufactures offer the ability to turn on IR functionality within the TV settings. All Sonos products require a network connection and setting up a Sonos account as the entire Sonos ecosystem is a network connected one. As for the sound quality, we appreciate your feedback. The Sonos Ray does have the option for Trueplay which is an advanced tuning software built in to the iOS app (for iPhone and iPad), this tuning can be done just once and tune the speaker for the exact location it is placed. Thank you again for your review. john.milton

The sound quality is poor and very underwhelming. We have had other soundbars and external sound equipment that has cost much less and provided a much better experience. Most likely going to return this product.

Great gaming/small TV option - MUST HAVE OPTICAL

This is a very purpose driven device and for what it's designed for it works beautifully. It's basically an nicely priced introduction into the Sonos ecosystem because you really need to use the Sonos app to do anything beyond have it provide a better sound response than the given TV or PC. The sizing is absolute ideal though. It easily fits under my 27" monitor and perfectly accompanies a 40" to 55" TV without overwhelming the TV space. Since you're using optical, there's no ARC (HDMI) connection so you have to program your regular remote with an IR to control it but honestly I just use the Sonos app. The use of the Sonos app is where it really shines because that's how you can stream music and incorporate it into a larger ecosystem. Overall the sound is super crisp and this soundbar SHINES when it comes to understanding what's being spoken on movies and such. Usually with these smaller systems there's no balancing so words get muffled into the surrounding sound making it harder to understand what's going on. Definitely not a problem with this soundbar as I was easily able to make out conversation despite scenes that included explosions and other major audio effects. It's a definite step up from your built-in sound from the TV but would absolutely benefit from the Sonos sub (and hopefully forthcoming mini sub) to add some bass to movies. For gaming I love the thing as trying to position standard soundbars is an exercise in futility and this one so perfectly slots in under the monitor.

I received this item for free from BestBuy and Sonos in exchange for my honest review of the item. I got this to replace a sound bar that I got about 6-7 years ago that worked fine but was starting to show its age. This Sonos sound bar was a breeze to set up, and I am super happy there’s not yet another remote control for me to have to keep track of, like my last one did. With this Sonos, I set it up with my iPhone and then set up my Apple TV 4K remote to be able to control the volume of the sound bar, and I was able to do it in less than 5 minutes from the start of the app download to the time I could use the remote, it was that quick! The sound quality is great, and I could tell it was an upgraded sound from my last sound bar as soon as I turned it on - the sound is crisp and level, there’s no major fluctuations like I was starting to hear with the old one. I need to play around more with the balance settings, though, because while I love bass, especially for music, when it is just dialogue it can be a bit too much and hard to understand. I haven’t gotten to try it out yet, but I’m also really excited about the Airplay option without going through my Apple TV!

The Sonos Ray sound bar is an excellent sounding product. It is a great option for those who are in smaller spaces or just want great sound at a great price. While you won’t get any pounding bass from this sound bar, you will still get quality sound that will fill a small to medium sized room. Set up is easy, user friendly and I didn’t have any issues with the process. You will have to connect via the included optical cable as there is no HDMI input, unfortunately. There also isn’t a 3.5 mm output jack either which is a big bummer. I was hoping to be able to hook this up to my gaming monitor but no luck. Additionally, there is no Bluetooth connectivity. The point of this product is to deliver awesome sound at an affordable price and it does both well. It is so nice to not have to use the cheap speakers that come with most televisions today. The Sonos Ray really enhances the overall experience of watching movies or gaming and I’m very pleased with it so far! If you’re looking for an excellent, high quality and affordable sound bar you will not be disappointed with the Sonos Ray.

Good speaker. Quality of the sound compared to the other Sonos bars, I expected it to be better, but the quality for its value is great. Recomended for a small bedroom for not a demand of performance.
