I'm sorry to hear that you've had such a frustrating experience with your Sonos Ray. Let's try to resolve the issues you're facing with a few troubleshooting steps. If these don't work, it may be worth considering contacting Sonos support for further assistance or a potential replacement.

Troubleshooting Steps for Sonos Ray Setup
      Check Connections

Ensure that all cables are securely connected, including the power cable and the connection to your TV.
Make sure your TV is set to use the correct audio output (optical or HDMI ARC) that the Sonos Ray is connected to.
      Use the Sonos App

Open the Sonos app on your smartphone or tablet.
Ensure the app is up-to-date by checking for updates in your app store.
Follow the in-app instructions for setting up a new device. This usually involves adding a new speaker to your system and following the prompts.
      Network and Wi-Fi

Ensure that your Sonos Ray is within range of your Wi-Fi network and that the network is functioning properly.
Try rebooting your router and ensuring that it supports 2.4 GHz, which Sonos products often require.
      Factory Reset

If you haven't tried this yet, performing a factory reset might help. To reset the Sonos Ray:
Unplug the power cord from the Sonos Ray.
Press and hold the Join button (∞) while plugging the power cord back in.
Continue holding the button until the light flashes orange and white.
      Compatibility Check

Ensure that your TV is compatible with the Sonos Ray. Some older TV models might have compatibility issues.
      If Troubleshooting Fails
If these steps don't resolve the issue, here are a few additional options:

Contact Sonos Support: Reach out to Sonos support for assistance. Provide them with detailed information about the steps you've taken so far.

I'm really sorry for the inconvenience you've faced. Your feedback is valuable, and I hope this helps you get your Sonos Ray working. john.milton

      Hello,

While most TVs are compatible with Sonos home theater speakers, some may need additional configuration or may not work with Sonos. Here are some basic requirements when using Sonos speakers with your TV.

If you do not see some of the ports of menu options mentioned below, consult your TV or external source device’s manual or manufacturer support for help.

      TV requirements
Ray, Playbar, and Playbase require a TV with a digital optical audio output.

      I hope this helps. john.milton

      Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Ray soundbar. Let's figure out why it's not connecting reliably and why you can't use your TV remote!

      Troubleshooting Steps:

      Connection Type:

Please confirm if you've connected the Ray to your TV using an optical cable. This is crucial for troubleshooting.
      App Setup:

Open the Sonos app and head to Settings -> System -> [Your Room Name] -> Home Theater -> Remote Control Setup.
Follow the on-screen prompts to configure your TV remote to control the Ray.
      TV Settings (optical connection):

Check your TV's audio settings and ensure "Audio Out" is set to "Optical" (or "Digital Out").
Enable "External Speakers" or similar options in your TV's sound settings.

      I hope this helps! john.milton

I’m truly sorry to hear about your frustrating experience with the Sonos Ray. Having to rely on an app that isn't functioning properly, especially for something as basic as adjusting the volume, is definitely not the experience we want for you.

      To address the issue:

Remote Control: The Sonos Ray is designed to work with your TV's remote control, so you shouldn’t need the app for volume control. If the remote isn’t paired correctly, try going into the Sonos app, navigating to “Settings” > “System” > “Remote Control Setup,” and follow the prompts to pair your TV remote.

App Crashing: If the app is crashing, try updating it to the latest version, as updates often fix bugs. If you’re already on the latest version, uninstalling and reinstalling the app can sometimes resolve these issues.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and appreciate your patience as we work through these technical issues. If these steps don’t resolve the problem, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our support team at support.sonos.com for further assistance. We want to ensure you have a seamless and enjoyable experience with your Sonos Ray. john.milton

      Hello MoribaC,

I am sorry to hear your setup and connection to your TV with Sonos Ray has been less than stellar. I recommend trying the following: 1. Check Connections: Ensure the optical cable is securely connected between the soundbar and the TV. The cable should be firmly plugged into both the TV's optical out port and the soundbar's optical in port. 2. Input Source: Make sure your TV is set to output audio through the optical port. This setting is usually found in the TV's audio settings menu. Sometimes it's labeled as "External Speakers" or "Optical Out." 3. Power Cycle: Turn off both the TV and the soundbar, unplug them from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, then plug them back in and power them on. 4. Audio Format: Ensure that the audio format output by the TV is compatible with the Sonos Ray. The Ray typically supports stereo and Dolby Digital, but not more advanced formats. 5. Sonos App: Open the Sonos app on your mobile device and check if it recognizes the Ray. You might need to reconfigure the setup in the app. 6. Firmware Update: Make sure both your TV and Sonos Ray have the latest firmware updates installed. Updates can resolve compatibility issues. 7. Cable Condition: Inspect the optical cable for any visible damage. If it looks worn or damaged, try using a different cable. 8. TV Settings: Check the TV's audio settings to ensure it is not set to a different audio output mode or format that might not be supported by the Sonos Ray. 9. Try a Different Port: If possible, connect the soundbar to a different optical port on the TV, or test the soundbar with a different TV to rule out issues with the "s optical output.

If these solutions still do not work for you I recommend contacting support at support.sonos.com for further assistance. I hope this helps and good luck with your device! john.milton
