Very Nice Sound Overall
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying that I am an avid Sonos member since inception with 12 Sonos products in my home so adding this speaker was quite easy. Plug it in, press the power button and my system recognized it immediately to set up. This process took all of about 60 seconds. Please note that this product only works on the newer Sonos S2 app and will not be recognized by the older Sonos S1 app. For those of you not familiar with these two apps, Sonos’s newest products will only work on the S2 app and some of their older speakers only work on the S1 app. Not too surprising, this angered many original Sonos product users as it essentially “bricked” the old devices. Yes, there is a way to do a split system using both apps but that kind of defeats the purpose of an “easy” ecosystem. Anyway – just a warning in case you have older Sonos products. The speaker is quite small in a good way and I was pleasantly surprised by the output it produced. No, it will not blow you away with sound but this speaker is not meant for that purpose. It will fit quite nicely in my home office to provide quality sound. You can adjust the bass and sound within the app to your liking and I found that after I did this, it sounded wonderful. The Roam is portable and unplugging it and taking it to my garage worked flawlessly (still on wifi). I then tested it off Wifi as a Bluetooth speaker only which worked fine and sounded the same. Please keep in mind, per the Sonos website, that you cannot have two Roams in a stereo pair via Bluetooth – only on Wifi. And nicely, it held it’s charge for 9 hours in my test. All in all I am pleasantly surprised by the sound this little speaker can produce and I would recommend this for small spaces and for those that need portability.

Posted .Hi, and thank you for your review! We're very sorry that you experienced these issues. The Roam requires a minimum 7.5W charger to charge it. It's very possible that you were no using a power brick that is 7.5W.

Won't Stay Connected

Sonos Roam Disappointing

The Roam did not meet the expectations of a Sonos product. The best run time (listening time ) was 2 hours then it needed charging, this was very disappointing to me as I have other Sonos products in our home. I call Sonos about the problem, I was told to reduce the volume to gain more listening time. Not at all happy with this product Roam and would no recommend it to anyone. I do believe however Sono makes great products but the Roam not so much.

I thought I would be able to use it with my Bluetooth phone but you can't boot it up without first activating it with WiFi on a SONOS system and you simply can't do that. Very confusing, short sited and just plain silly. Had to return it without ever hearing it. Come on SONOS you can do better!

Posted .Hi, and thank you very much for taking the time to review the Sonos Roam! We announced last year that all of our new products going forward will only work on our S2 platform. This includes Arc, Five, SubG3 and Roam, all future products. Every new product going forward will only work with S2. As far as the wifi set up, we understand that most bluetooth speakers can conveniently be taken out of the box without wifi. However, the main thing to consider here is that those speakers don't have computers built into them like our products which make them better over time! That's why other bluetooth speakers don't receive software updates. Because they can't. The Sonos Roam has to be set up on wifi to receive the lates software update to ensure it's working properly. This may be an inconvenience at first set up, but over time these software updates more than compensate for that experience and our products getting better over time is a huge reason customers love our products so much!

Disappointing Sonos Roam

I decided to switch from a Bose so I could pair it with my other Sonos speakers. Which have all worked great. The roam continuely drains battery at a high speed, it definitely does not last the length that Sonos advertises. It also has pairing issues. I am happy with my other Sonos speakers but very disappointed in the Roam.

Charge the speaker fully and played for 7 hrs straight, lasted longer than my Bose Revolt 2
