Customers are saying
Customers admire the Roam Smart Portable Speaker's amazing sound quality, portability, and surprisingly big sound for its small size. Many appreciate its ease of setup and Bluetooth connectivity, along with its water resistance for use in various settings. However, some users point to inconsistent battery life and occasionally low volume as drawbacks. A few also mention challenges with charging and the power button.

My new Dream Machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Things sound different on the Sonos Roam. It’s the latest must-have Dream Machine. Don’t ordinarily listen to Rock? You will on the Roam. Don’t ordinarily listen to Smooth Jazz? You will on the Roam. Etc. The Sonos Roam is a wonderful convergence of technologies, and may in fact represent the final leap to Extraordinary. Instead of the need for two devices to play music (your phone and a separate speaker more than likely of dubious quality) the Sonos, by itself, does it all. Plus you can talk to it, using either Alexa or Google, which is very convenient when your hands are dirty or wet or you can’t reach it. Pros: Overall form factor: elegant. Appearance: elegant. Sound: elegant. Toggle between the eq settings and other screens for exquisite fine tuning of Treble and Bass, and Loudness. That way the sound is always superb and sumptuous. Has Wi-fi and Bluetooth and both work great. Wireless Charging. You don’t need to pay the hefty $50 to Sonos, I use a Yootech magnetic (wireless) charger that’s $18.99 that charges it from about 50% to 100% in 2 hours. This charger uses USB-C but comes with a little square AC adapter. It stops charging automatically and the Sonos Roam is warm, towards the bottom where the battery is, during charging but then cools down so this seems to be a good combination. I decided not to keep it on the charger. I think lithium batteries last longer when you let them drain between charges. The bass is precise and balanced (some reviewers say it’s “punchy” but that seems to suggest the opposite). Never “bassy” as with cheaper speakers – and some of the expensive ones too. The sound quality has a 3-D quality, and in a highly technical review elsewhere has been compared to speakers that cost over $1,000. The associated app, used primarily during setup but not really necessary otherwise, is sophisticated yet easy to use. Link to streaming music services like IHeart radio and Amazon music – there are about 50 or so others, which have built-in apps within the Sonos app, which you can use directly or you can copy your favorite radio stations or songs to the Sonos “my music” section so they’re all grouped in one place, which is very convenient I mean Sonos has thought of everything. This is for music aficionados. But it also gets loud. What I especially like, and which makes it my “Dream Machine,” is the 7 or so volume increments in the “whisper quiet” range. For many speakers even the quietest volume is too loud because sometimes I want the music to be subliminal. What I also like is there are no obnoxious “sound effects” when turning on and off. For some things a very quiet “note” will play but that is acceptable to me so probably you too. It seems there are at least 50 volume increments, so it’s almost like a regular radio where the volume control is continuous. Which is the norm for older radios so why should we lose that to the digital age? You can also say “Alexa, double the volume” or “raise volume to 30%” if you don’t want to push the volume up button repeatedly. You can speak in a normal or low-key voice so others in the house won’t be distracted. I’ve had a similar Bluetooth speaker, and with good sound (UE Boom 2), for about 2 years, which I will still use, that way the novelty of this Sonos Roam will last longer. I also bought an Amazon Echo 5 a few weeks earlier, which is another “smart speaker” but with a 5-inch screen. It seems I’ll be using all these things, each comprises my audio entertainment in a slightly different way.

Best Bluetooth Sonos Option Out There
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Solid sound quality, JBL might be a bit better, connectivity not an issue with existing SONOS system, also connected easily with non-SONOS device, nice compact design, very portable.

Pretty Good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the idea of this Sonos roam. But maybe I should have bought the move instead. I like the price, cheaper than the Sonos Move. Sound I wish it went up higher. My Altec Lansing portable speaker is louder. It’s nice for around the house and using bluetooth to connect my phone to the roam. Then I can pair the roam with any of my Sonos system. It feels kind of fragile for taking outside. I don’t want to scratch it. Also, the battery doesn’t last very long. And even when it’s off it seems to be on wasting the battery. When using with the golf cart I would rather get my more durable looking and louder sounding portable altec Lansing speaker for that. I do like this item and like that it works with the rest of my system. But I will not be buying another one. I do recommend Sonos in general and if you want to use in other rooms that don’t already have the Sonos then it’s nice that it can connect to your system. I do think I should have bought the Sonos Move instead.

Nice sound in a small package
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup for this speaker went off without a hitch. Very easy and smooth, anyone can do it. The physical design is pretty sleek, and I like having the option to be able to use it upright, or on its side. I have had no connectivity issues and I mainly use it in my bathroom, while my phone lies around either in my room or elsewhere in the house while I'm showering or doing my hair. It really does give off a high-quality, crisp sound that sounds great in there. I have a smart house and the feature I most enjoy is having it hooked up to my Google Assistant. 90% of my electronics work with Google and adding this speaker to the list is really a great bonus. Very lightweight seems durable and well-made that could survive the long haul.

Perfect speaker..seamless, small and great sound!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am Sonos fanboy and I am always trying out their newest products and I jumped on the Sonos Move and I was quick to jump on this speaker as well. It is tiny and has all the Sonos functionality and sound and has all the same controls as the Move, touch controls, etc and Alexa functionality as well. The only thing this is missing is a charging base which I was a little surprised at and would of preferred instead of a cord with USB which is a bit awkward. Other than that, great sound and a great design as with any Sonos product. I love it!

Sonos Roam delivers.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Solid little speaker. Makes a great gift ( to receive and to give). Will be buying more. Listen to mostly heavy music, speaker is close to phone so can't speak to bluetooth range. Connects pretty easily, no issues so far after a few months.

Very disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought 4 Roam speakers and a Sonos sound bar in September 2022. Great sound, loved the system. In November 2023, the battery in one of the Roam speakers died. Would not take a charge & would not even play when plugged into a charger. I do understand that it was 2 months past the 1 year warranty, neither Sonos or Best Buy would help me out . The best Sonos would do is give me a 30% coupon off a new one, which would actually still cost more than I found them for online (they were discounted for the holidays). So apparently, this Roam battery issue is pretty common (Google "Roam battery issue").
