Customers are saying

Customers admire the Roam Smart Portable Speaker's amazing sound quality, portability, and surprisingly big sound for its small size. Many appreciate its ease of setup and Bluetooth connectivity, along with its water resistance for use in various settings. However, some users point to inconsistent battery life and occasionally low volume as drawbacks. A few also mention challenges with charging and the power button.

    Great Sound, Poor battery life

As other people have already mentioned, the battery life is poor. My little Ontz speaker goes forever on a charge and will turn itself off after an extended period of non-use. It doesn't surprise me that the Roam uses more power since the sound is so much better. However, if you forget to turn it all the way off, it is likely it will be dead when you go to use it again in a day or two. This happens even if I only listened for an hour or two before letting it go into what appears to be a "stand-by" mode (I didn't turn it all the way off). Thus, if you plan to take backpacking or camping with no electricity to recharge, you may be disappointed. Otherwise is a great sounding speaker and except for the battery issue am happy with my purchase.

The roam has become my new puppy, it doesn't leave my side, and its always on. I own a bunch of other Sonos and this is the clearly the smallest and most convenient without sacrificing any quality. The Bluetooth play works really well and also sounds great. I haven't tested the soundproof features yet but I am excited to start bringing it out to pool days.

I purchased a Roam for music in my office, and at about 50% volume it’ll fill a small to medium sized room. The music is clear and concise, it sounds especially good with pop, rock, electronic music. The base, however, is definitely lacking with a single Roam. But, to test out the stereo capabilities, I got a second Roam. I noticed a huge difference. By itself a single Roam can only push so much volume, but 2 they become something very different. The base really opens up with a stereo pair, and you get clear sound at any volume. Decent with one, really great as a pair. Note you can’t pair with 2 over Bluetooth, wifi only.

Really 4 ¾, almost 5. The sound quality is amazing for such a small speaker. Almost comparable to the Sonos One(s) that I have set up as a stereo pair. When the Roam is added in with the One(s), they all sound really great together. Only shortcoming I see is the battery. When the Roam sits idle for a few days (week) and I go to play something on the deck on the weekend, the battery has completely drained just from being idle. I would expect the battery to hold a charge, even when idle for several days? Or perhaps the Roam could send a notification that battery life less than 10%? Is that too much to expect? If you are after sound quality, which is the most important, you won’t be disappointed. Just keep the charger handy.

Portability at a good price is what you get. It reliably connects to my Apple devices much better than a Bluetooth speaker. I finally got the charging stand too just because we couldn’t keep track of the included charging cable. Small enough to pack on vacation too. Works seamlessly with other Sonos devices in our house.

Awesome little portable speaker. It's not as powerful as the Move but it's so easy to transport. I like the ability to incorporate this into my Sonos home system, but also use it as a bluetooth device when I'm away from the house. I wish the button had a bit more of a responsive feel to it, but I have no real complaints about this speaker.

Very good sound, but sometimes gets disconnected using bluetooth. When I use Alexa, it responds so loud that it is annoying even when the volume is low. Still needs some improvements.

Great speaker when you are on the go, but extra useful since its another Sonos speaker on your system at home. Before this all my bluetooth speakers would go unused for long periods if I wasn't out and about. This is useful if you are home or away!

While most of the other Sonos products are pretty good, this one fails to meet expectations. The first time i used it on a bike ride the volume shot down to zero and continues to exibit this problem. Also the power button sucks and is not easily manipulated. The sonos roam seems to always power up when charging as well even after powering off which is super annoying. You can't adjust the bass and treble on bluetooth either which sucks to. Sound is sub par for the price as well. I hope sonos is able to remedy these problems with software updates. For now I'm stuck with it unfortunately.

The Sonos Roam is an excellent-sounding speaker, and it’s even better in a pair like I have! Just remember that it’s still a small speaker, so there is a limit on how much bass it can produce. For me, the fact that It can join a wifi network and work as an AirPlay speaker when I’m at home and become a Bluetooth speaker when I leave is the killer feature for me. Other observations: —You can only stereo pair on wifi, not on Bluetooth. (Though Sonos might be able to add this feature later, they haven’t promised it.) —Since a pair of Roams coats about the same as a Sonos Move, for the money I’d recommend the Roams if you prefer stereo separation or the Move if you prefer bass. People say the Move sounds like a Sonos One, and the Roam pair I have is great but still doesn’t stack up. —The wifi range is excellent, but on my Eero mesh network, the Roams don’t hop access points as fast as I’d like, If I take them from one end of the house to the other, they’ll often still be weakly connected to the faraway access point and the audio will cut out. It can be fixed by power cycling the speakers, but that’s still an annoyance.
