Way more complicated than it needs to be

I wanted to love this and thought I would but I ended up returning it. I'll explain why but first let me list the pros. The sound is good for its size. It's nice that it's water proof. It's easy to old and feels good in your hand. The design looks great. Now the cons. The on-off button is really difficult to master. That sounds crazy but it's true. Sometimes you press it and nothing happens. If you hold it for different lengths of time different things happen (full power off, connect to bluetooth...) but I couldn't find a clear explanation anywhere of this. You'd think an on-off switch would be simpler. I also found that if I didn't full power off (which requires holding the on-off switch for five seconds) the battery would drain completely overnight. So every time I turned it off I had to hold the switch for five seconds, which was annoying. But the biggest problem I had was with connectivity. I'm in an admittedly unusual circumstance in that we set our wi-fi to automatically disconnect at night to keep our kids from spending all of their time online. That meant that each day I'd have to go through a complex process to reconnect the Roam to our network. I tried to set the speaker to be blue-tooth only but that's not possible. It needs to be connected to wi-fi first before you can connect it to bluetooth. And while the sound is good for it's size, it's smaller than it needs to be. I wanted to upgrade from a Bose SoundLink Mini II, which came out way back in 2016. The SoundLink Mini II is slightly bigger but I actually think it sounds noticeably better than the Roam. So in short, I think if you're a Sonos person and plugged in to their system and want to add something portable, maybe this would be good for you. But if you're primarily focused on listening over bluetooth I think there are a lot of options that are better.

The sound is amazing. I bought a pair and I will be returning them however. The battery life is terrible. If I charge them to 100% and don’t use them for a day when I go to use them the battery is at 76%. If I use them for 20 minutes, the battery drops to 55%. There is no way you can play them for 10 hours like it claims. Totally defeats the purpose of being a portable speaker. Also, I have to set them up to stereo pair every time. Once I set it, it should stay paired. I literally have to pick the left and right one each time. This is my first experience with Sonos and I’m pretty bummed. If I wanted to have it plugged in all the time, I’d have bought a Sonia one. The sound quality was great, but for the battery life these are over priced by $100.

Roam Around & Hear Excellent Sound

It's not often that a product surprises me but the Sonos Roam is such a product. I unpacked it and hit the power switch. It immediately discovered my Sonos network, and a notification popped up on my phone asking if I wanted to add the Roam to my network. A couple taps later and it was ready to go. Couldn't have been easier to set up, took less than 2 minutes. It was 51% charged out of the box. I plugged it in and an hour later it was fully charged. One last comment. The Roam is smaller than a bottle of water, yet somehow they get excellent sound quality out if it. Pros: Easy setup Great sound Great battery life.

When you walk into a Best Buy store you’re always greeted & treated with a friendly smile. That is what we’re accustomed to and that’s what we experienced at the Ridgedale store. It really helps make a purchase. I intended to get a Sonos move and left the store with one. Our salesperson talked about the product very well, made a lot of comparisons and we got to listen to the sound quality. I like that It’s a compact, high quality sound system and we truly enjoy using it!

The Perfect Addition to The Sonos Family

Sonos has created quality speakers for home setups, but didn't dive into the portable speaker marketplace until now. Although they introduced the Sonos Move, it didn't compete with other truly portable speakers because of its size, weight, and price. The Sonos Roam has perfectly executed both portability and sound quality, all while integrating seamless functionality. Switching music from one speaker to another is quick and effortless, and grouping multiple speakers for synchronized play is equally seamless. The sleek design, IP67 rating, smart assistant integration, and user-friendly controls are just cherries on top of an already sweet product. This should definitely be a heavy consideration when looking for your next perfect speaker.

The speaker is pretty good. The unit I got did not have the removable base, which would have been better to get. The battery life isn’t great, but it’s ok. If you have a Sonos it’s a budget option. Get the removable base and consider upsizing if you want 4 hours or more of music time.

We have a Sonos sound bar and the sound quality is still excellent! The battery life lasts all day. The app is pretty simple and you can connect it right to spotify, iheartradio and prime music accounts. Once one is playing you can close the app on your phone and play/pause right from the Roam. If you have other Sonos devices you can sync and play though all or switch seamlessly. The only issues have been listening to music stored locally on my phone is kind of clunky, the app will load a playlist but doesn't shuffle very well and playing through the samsing music app causes it to only play one song then stops. The other issue is if you have a high quality .flac file, such as from bandcamp, it may be unable to play it, which is surprising. Pro's Sound quality Battery life Simple app Streaming music Works with other Sonos devices Con's Shuffling playlists Incompatible with some .flac files

Sonos Roam - Bluetooth Speaker GAMECHANGER!

First Best Buy review on the Sonos Roam speaker. This has been highly anticipated over the past month. After going through the many reviews from 3rd parties who have gotten their hands on the speaker, it is expected to blow all other speakers of this size out of the water. A feature I'm looking forward to the most is the ability to operate on your network, then instantly transfer to bluetooth when you leave the network area. Brilliant! Cannot wait to get my hands on the speaker today! Of course two of them were ordered to pair up in stereo mode. Check out online reviews and order yours right away!

The Sonos roam gets so much right. The sound is balanced with a decent amount of bass. The vocals are crisp and the volume is perfect for a small area, even outdoors. The build quality is excellent and the battery life is more than enough. The one issue i have is the interface, it can be tricky switching from Wifi to bluetooth mode. I wish there was a dedicated button for this, additionally the on off button would benefit from a similar design change. Outside of that, i feel the size and performance are fantastic. This slips into my backpack and i forget its there. Solid purchase

The best use case is for current Sonos owners who want a small speaker to move around the house with. It sounds good next to other speakers and when you balance the volume you can sort of get a stereo effect if you have rooms with other speakers present. I use this mostly in my bedroom and office where each have a single One. This adds to the sound in those rooms. I also use it in the shower, which has made the ritual of showering much more enjoyable and relaxing. Out of home, I use headphones, and it's winter where I am, so I haven't had any outdoor gatherings to "DJ", so not sure about the out-of-home / social experience of using this yet. I do not recommend this if you do not already have, or plan to have additional Sonos speakers at home. the value prop and performance is weak and overpriced as a single speaker. Pros: - size and weight, very portable. lighter and smaller than my JBL - Integration w/ my existing Sonos system - sound quality is pretty good all things considered. it sounds clear and crisp, and the fact that it is weak in the low end isn't bothersome. as long as your expectations are in the right place, you won't be disappointed by how it sounds overall. Cons: Controls, pairing, overall usability, and functionality - Many times activating this speaker with music already playing will crash the system. For example, I have a One playing music, I hold the play button on the Roam and sometimes it works, but other times, it kills all the music and unlinks the other speakers that may be playing at the same time. Then I have to get into the app, reselect the music, and wait for it to pick up. its just not as smooth as the wired speakers. - BATTERY LIFE IS THE PITS. making it not a good speaker to take out on a trip. Bluetooth battery MIGHT be better, but I haven't been able to quantify the difference between the two - wouldn't take it to the beach, the pool, the patio, etc. it's not loud enough by itself and I'd only get 1-2 hours on the battery. - volume when paired with other speakers in home: when you adjust the volume on the speaker, it adjusts for each speaker that is playing. not a bad thing, but there are many times where the other speakers are fine and just this one needs to be adjusted. You have to go into the app to adjust this. - takes too long to get up and running. With the JBL's you play something on your phone, turn on the speaker and it pairs and plays almost immediately. with this, I have to go through MANY more steps AFTER picking music because of fumbling with the Sonos app in addition to fumbling with Sonos/Apple - So far I have been unsuccessful with getting the voice controls to work. one day I may figure this out.

I use these in my 2 bathrooms and they are surprisingly loud for how small they are. Sound quality is good but its definitely a step down from any other sonos speakers... but then again the price reflects that so i am happy with my purchase, no other sonos speakers can fit in my bathroom conveniently so these complete my setup of a speaker in every room.

Probably the best in its class

For its size, this is probably the best bluetooth/WiFi speaker on the market. Having voice enabled Alexa/Google is what separates this from everything else. As far as sound, it is really good. You're not going to hear super deep bass because speakers this small can only produce so much (physics), so larger speakers will be able to produce lower frequencies. I haven't compared it side-by-side to a Bose MiniLink II, but would think the Bose would be the best to compare it to as far as sound goes (minilink doesn't have voice assistant). I have an older Klipsch Gig and the Klipsch sounded fairly similar - the Gig has two small tweeters so can produce more accurate stereo, whereas the Roam has only one. However the balance is really good and it can get really loud. It's rated at 10 hours battery life - make sure when turning off you hold the button long enough to hear a deep tone and see the lights turn off. If you let go too quickly, it will make a tone but go in "standby" mode and will drain about 15% overnight after a full charge. If fully turned off it will maintain the last % charge. Another feature that separates this from others is you can buy two to pair them up, for stereo, adding more bass (fuller sound) and even more separation/clarity.

This isn’t your standard travel, outdoor, or reckless Bluetooth speaker. However, for mobility around the house or taking to similar settings (you’ll have to change the WiFi setting), it’s amazing. Very few speakers out there that use air play, and that alone is enough to buy Sonos. Battery is solid, but Sonos app, software and updates need a lot of work.

Great little speaker. Though a little more expensive than I'd normally pay for something that makes my music louder, it's a powerful little speaker. Very clean audio quality from near-silent to full blast. Charges quick, easy to set up and use. My only complaint is it's tiny mesh holes can are hard to clean. But I suppose you'd see that with any similar products.
