Customers are saying

Customers admire the Roam Smart Portable Speaker's amazing sound quality, portability, and surprisingly big sound for its small size. Many appreciate its ease of setup and Bluetooth connectivity, along with its water resistance for use in various settings. However, some users point to inconsistent battery life and occasionally low volume as drawbacks. A few also mention challenges with charging and the power button.

I'm a Sonos fan. I've moved a lot and a few years ago after running speaker cables and HDMI cords all over, under, and around another new place I decided I'd had enough. I donated all of my old stereo equipment and dove fully into the Sonos experience. I haven't looked back. It all just works seamlessly, the app is great, and I don't have cord clutter or really have to think about it. I couldn't recommend Sonos as a whole more. Now 1 Beam for the TV and 4 Ones placed around the house, I decided to try out the new Roam. I bought it thinking I would give it a test try and return it if I didn't like it or think it was worth the price. Well, like all Sonos products you do probably pay a few dollars more. But to me it's worth it. The Roam has been great and it, like everything else with Sonos, just works flawlessly. I particularly love how it just automatically switches from bluetooth to wifi connection without freaking out. I've had 2 Klipsch bluetooth portable speakers for many years and the manual and noisy pairing method is just annoying. The Roam just works and sounds great in a smaller room. It's been great at the beach and at parks this summer. I couldn't be happier. I haven't bought the charging dock yet. I have a dedicated cord for it and have been able to consistently plug it in to keep it charged up.

This solves a problem for me in that I needed a small WiFi speaker where the S1 won’t fit. It’s a success in that regard. As for portability, battery stinks as others point out. It’s not even good for an afternoon, however, that’s not a problem for me as i can plug it in my backyard, which was the second app for it. Sound is superior to my UE and low end Bose A lot of bass for a tiny device. The setup is a bit obtuse as the app points you to press something or put your near phone near some NFC component that doesn’t seem to exist. By Sonos standards, the setup needs a lot more qa, however, after three tries it worked and It’s been fine, so long as it’s powered. Very expensive for what it is and unclear if it’s an e-spy or will stop listening with no assistants enabled.

Awesome little portable speaker. It's not as powerful as the Move but it's so easy to transport. I like the ability to incorporate this into my Sonos home system, but also use it as a bluetooth device when I'm away from the house. I wish the button had a bit more of a responsive feel to it, but I have no real complaints about this speaker.

Honestly I was pleasantly surprised by the sonos roam! It is my 2nd portable Bluetooth speaker and the sound quality that comes outta this thing just pumps! All the features work well! Set up is a breeze, Bluetooth is great! It is a little expensive but definitely holds up it’s worth! Highly recommend giving the sonos roam a try if you’re interested in a portable speaker!

We originally bought this speaker as a portable speaker to take camping and on other trips. However, the battery life is so bad on it that its basically pointless to take anywhere. It legitimately feels like we only get MAYBE 2 or 3 hours out of it before it dies. So it is now a home (quasi) portable speaker that we keep plugged in wherever we take it throughout the house so it doesn't die on us. Sound quality wise its just like all other Sonos products (which I have both the Sonos Beam and 2 of the satellite speakers). It sounds great and gets pretty loud. I recommend it but I wouldn't really call it all that portable due to battery issues. (It also can be a pain in the butt to connect to sometimes)

Very good sound, but sometimes gets disconnected using bluetooth. When I use Alexa, it responds so loud that it is annoying even when the volume is low. Still needs some improvements.

    Great Sound, Poor battery life

As other people have already mentioned, the battery life is poor. My little Ontz speaker goes forever on a charge and will turn itself off after an extended period of non-use. It doesn't surprise me that the Roam uses more power since the sound is so much better. However, if you forget to turn it all the way off, it is likely it will be dead when you go to use it again in a day or two. This happens even if I only listened for an hour or two before letting it go into what appears to be a "stand-by" mode (I didn't turn it all the way off). Thus, if you plan to take backpacking or camping with no electricity to recharge, you may be disappointed. Otherwise is a great sounding speaker and except for the battery issue am happy with my purchase.

I purchased this speaker after having an LG Bluetooth speaker that had decent sound. Was hoping for something with a more refined sound and a little smaller and therefore portable than the LG. The sonos roam is quite light and easy to transport around. Sound through the speaker js great. However if I listen to the speak two hours a week, it loses significant charge. I previously used the LG in the same fashion and charged only once a month. This is quite a disappointment as I have other Sonos products and expected more for this speaker. Additionally the sonos app can be cumbersome at times and hard to navigate.

I purchased a Roam for music in my office, and at about 50% volume it’ll fill a small to medium sized room. The music is clear and concise, it sounds especially good with pop, rock, electronic music. The base, however, is definitely lacking with a single Roam. But, to test out the stereo capabilities, I got a second Roam. I noticed a huge difference. By itself a single Roam can only push so much volume, but 2 they become something very different. The base really opens up with a stereo pair, and you get clear sound at any volume. Decent with one, really great as a pair. Note you can’t pair with 2 over Bluetooth, wifi only.

The roam has become my new puppy, it doesn't leave my side, and its always on. I own a bunch of other Sonos and this is the clearly the smallest and most convenient without sacrificing any quality. The Bluetooth play works really well and also sounds great. I haven't tested the soundproof features yet but I am excited to start bringing it out to pool days.

Really 4 ¾, almost 5. The sound quality is amazing for such a small speaker. Almost comparable to the Sonos One(s) that I have set up as a stereo pair. When the Roam is added in with the One(s), they all sound really great together. Only shortcoming I see is the battery. When the Roam sits idle for a few days (week) and I go to play something on the deck on the weekend, the battery has completely drained just from being idle. I would expect the battery to hold a charge, even when idle for several days? Or perhaps the Roam could send a notification that battery life less than 10%? Is that too much to expect? If you are after sound quality, which is the most important, you won’t be disappointed. Just keep the charger handy.
