Customers admire the Roam Smart Portable Speaker's amazing sound quality, portability, and surprisingly big sound for its small size. Many appreciate its ease of setup and Bluetooth connectivity, along with its water resistance for use in various settings. Sonos brand worth the price?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have a $69 speaker and it was just as good as this $169 speaker. Little smaller than most speakers but you’re paying for the size factor and marketing.

NOT a good speaker for road warriors
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound is 5 star quality and this would be a five star product if it worked half the time. The bluetooth functionality is mostly a lie. While it supports bluetooth, it has to connect to a wifi network first; not just any wifi network, YOUR wifi network. When it decides it needs to resync to wifi, you can’t use the bluetooth functionality until you reconnect it to YOUR wifi network, then switch it to bluetooth. So, basically, if you’re on the road a lot and can’t be home all the time to connect to your wifi network, the speaker is absolutely worthless. That’s why, even though I love the sound quality, I have to rate this a 1 star, because I can’t use it most of the time so there’s no sound to be heard. Manually switching it to Bluetooth makes no difference. When it decided it wants to reconnect, you HAVE to do it on your wifi network first.

Posted .Hi, and thank you for your review! We are very sorry you don't love your Roam. You are correct. The Roam does have to be synced to your wifi (Sonos system) first to do updates, after that you should be able to listen on bluetooth whenever you'd like. No "need" to be back on wifi. We would love to help make sure there's not problem with your Roam. If you go to sonos.com/support you can reach out whichever way you prefer.

Great speaker but Bluetooth pairing is not easy
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works great. Use all over the place. My one negative comment is that pairing with phone via bluetooth is not very intuitive and the documentation is not very helpful. Once you get that work it's great. WiFi setup was very easy though.

Do Not Buy
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Sonos product is worse than Sonos One! Spent hours on phone with Sonos tech support. first time they had me send diagnostics report code and offered no advice, I thought they would call later and tell me how to fix, was not the case. Since then I've tried fixing it with them over phone with no luck. My volume turns down on its own randomly and the battery seems to die when left sitting with speaker off for a few days. Tried to return to best buy, Can't bc i have had it for over two weeks. Tried returning it to Sonos, Can't bc i bought it from best buy. SO...there is only one option left I guess, Spend more hours on phone with tech support? Unless you want to do this don't buy this Speaker!

OK speaker

Not impressed. Okay
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have three other Sonos devices including a Move speaker. The Roam leaves a lot to be desired. It is not very loud and it sounds like it’s pushing the limit when it comes to sound quality. I was very disappointed and I have decided to return it and will consider spending a couple hundred dollars more for another Move.

NOT recommending this product wholeheartedly
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The connection to Airplay and Bluetooth was terrible from Day 1 I got it. Millions of tech support calls couldn’t solve the problem. It would randomly disconnect. And everytine I try to use it I need to restart everything. It is painful and definitely not worth the money

A go anywhere speaker for the Sonos ecosystem
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PROS - Great battery life - Simultaneous Wi-Fi/Bluetooth integration - Wireless charging - IP67 water and dust resistant - Alexa and Google integration CONS - Bass response could be better SUMMARY The Sonos Roam improves upon all the features of Move while introducing a more portable form factor with versatile integration and wonderful sound. DESIGN The design of the Roam follows the clean aesthetic that Sonos has polished over years. The front of the speakers is covered in thousands of precision drilled holes with status and charging lights hidden discretely inside. The shape is a gently curved triangle shape which means it easy to grab and go. On the back side one can find the USB C port and power button while the music controls and mic button are on the top. The Sonos Roam is designed for both vertical and horizontal so the bottom is rubberized and there are four feet for horizontal placement. The Roam, as the name implies, is built for life on the go. The Roam is drop proof and IP67 dust & water resistant. I've only had one drop and the Roam survived without issues. Additionally I've used the Roam in the shower and around the house with no issues. I have no doubt that the Sonos Roam will serve well regardless of the environmental conditions it's subjected to. FEATURES The Roam has both Wi-Fi to integrate with your existing Sonos system and Bluetooth to pair with your phone on the go. The big difference from the Move is the ability for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to be used simultaneously. For the first time you can pair your phone to the speaker over Bluetooth and then pass that audio throughout the whole house. Another new feature for the Roam is the introduction of the Swap feature. One can simply bring the Roam into proximity with another speaker (that is microphone equipped) and hold the power button. The nearest speaker hears the Roam playing and the audio magically switches to that room (or group of rooms). In regards to power and play time the Roam gets a solid 10 hours. You can charge either via the included USB-C cable or an optional Qi wireless charging dock or any other dock that you have laying around. A feature that isn't new but has been included with all new product releases by Sonos is Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integration. Sonos is one of the few smart speaker manufacturers that give you the option to choose between one or the other. When the Roam is connected over Wi-Fi the voice assistant capability is enabled - with this you control media play and ask for a particular song or radio to play. This is by far one of the main reasons why I love the Roam and other Sonos products. SOUND For size of the Roam it produces serious sound at roughly 7 inches tall and 2.5 inches wide. The quality of the audio that this speaker produces comes at no surprise give Sonos's history of stellar products. The speaker has refined high frequencies and balanced mid-frequencies. I was a little disappointed with the bass the speaker produced, but again for the form factor the soundstage is wide and impressive. One of impressive features of the Roam is its ability to adapt its sound to the environment that it's in. Using the built-in microphones it's able to adapt based on how it's oriented and when it's placed next to walls and different surfaces that may affect the sound. The result is great sound regardless of whether it's in the shower, outside, or in the corner of a room.

||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This speaker started a fast blaring machine gun sound that went on for hours. Doesn't work
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing sucks!!! I have 2 sonos ones and they are amazing. I wanted to get this one to take outside so I could hear the music inside and out. It pretty much won't charge. It's been plugged in for a straight week and only made it from 19% to 62%. You have to keep reconnecting it. It says that it's playing but it's not. I read a lot of other reviews with battery problems as well. They only give you a 2 week return period which isn't long enough to realize something doesn't work right. I would have returned it and got a different Sonos speaker.

Posted .Hi, and thank you for taking the time to review Roam. Roam needs a 7.5w charger to charge it adequately. Also, make sure to hold the power button down for 5 seconds to turn Roam off completely when not using it.

Difficult to set-up
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We bought this to use as a Bluetooth portable speaker on vacations, at the beach, pool, etc. They claimed it was easy to set up - not true. We could not get the first one to work so we went to Best Buy and their representative couldn't do it either. He decided it was faulty merchandise and replaced the original with a new one. When that came it also wasn't able to be set up, so back to Best Buy and the Geek Squad. End result - same inability to set up. The rep decided it was meant to be used in a network of other Sonos speakers and recommended we buy a different brand. We bought a JBL portable Bluetooth and it was easy to set up and has great sound. So we're very satisfied with JBL, but would not recommend buying a Sonos portable unless you already have a Sonos system in place. Disappointing, but ended well.

Posted .Hi, and thank you for the review. The Roam must be set up on wifi (not necessarily a Sonos system) before it's put on bluetooth. The reason is that Roam like all of our products have a computer that gets better over time with updates, and we must ensure Roam is on the proper update before using even on bluetooth. Other bluetooth speakers, you get what you get the day you purchase them and that's it. The benefit is that it can be used as bluetooth speaker out of the box. The downside to the Roam, is that it must be set up on wifi first, but after that, it will get better and better over the years you're using it.
