One of my favorite Sonos speaker because of its versatility. I use it at my desk working from home, as a shower speaker, in the backyard, and when I travel. For its size the sound is great. Loved it so much that I eventually bought a second Roam to pair as a stereo.

The sound quality of this small speaker is amazing. I was also impressed with the functions. However, it was unacceptable for it to arrive like this. It looks like the top is coming off.

Sonos Roams are one of the best mobile speakers I’ve ever purchased! The sounds quality is fantastic! The interaction between two in stereo mode is what I like about them the most! I really like how they work with my Apple Music the most! Great price and great quality!

Speaker Software Bricked - DO NOT BUY GEN 1 ROAM.

Worst Speaker Ever. I bought becasue of airplay 2. It worked for 1 week. Then I started noticing issues like I went camping and it turned itself on the drive to the campsite and was dead when I went to turn it on. Lost all connection in the sonos app. Reset three times went through all troubleshooting steps with support. Product is bricked. They mentioned that there is a high amount of issues with this product. It took us 45 minutes to get it to turn on from a "Sleep Mode" the speaker goes into when completely dead. Apparently it does not accept charge when at super low levels while in this mode.... My return period with best buy ended 3 days ago. Ha, Looks like im stuck with a brand new broken sonos speaker. I guess this is what I as a consumer get for buying Gen1.

Sonos Quality while on the Roam

Sonos Roam is the speaker that I had been waiting to add to my Sonos System. I have several Sonos components at home including the Sonos One, Sonos Port, Sonos Beam and Sonos Move. The Sonos Roam takes the sound quality that you have come to expect from Sonos and packs it into an amazingly small package. It is almost (not quite) small enough to fit into your pocket and definitely fits nicely into a backpack for carrying with you almost anywhere. Just like other Sonos speakers you download the Sonos S2 app, from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, and setup the speaker within the app. As soon as I had powered on the Sonos Roam speaker and opened the app, the Sonos Roam had been discovered and the app was prompting me to setup the speaker. As expected from Sonos, the setup process was extremely simple and the app walks you through each step. While at home you'll likely use the Sonos Roam like any other Sonos speaker, connected to your home WiFi and controlled from the Sonos app. As soon as you're away from home that's where the simplicity of Bluetooth comes into play, simply connect to the speaker via Bluetooth from any compatible device. As for the sound quality. It's what you have come to expect from Sonos, a truly impressive sound quality that can be optimized for any room or location using the Trueplay calibration. I'll hopefully be taking the a commercial flight overseas soon and the Sonos Roam will definitely be with me. When you're going to roam, make sure you have your Sonos Roam with you!

So disappointed. We have a SONOS system at home and I wanted to have a portable speaker to take with me, so having a device that would work with my current system and travel was a dream. Until reality set in. -the product keeps turning itself on, especially if I use the included case. Which results in it is either out of power or playing randomly. The button needs to be changed to a slide type or to be moved to another location on the device -the controls cannot be seen with my eyes. I need to take a photo of it, blow it up and then use the buttons for up or down volume. I guess eventually I would learn, but geez… -it will not play with my Sonos amp, although it has it as one of the source choices -Bluetooth works but you need to physically connect it each time vs. having the speaker as a choice when launching music Sadly, its going back.

A Compact Powerhouse of Sound: Sonos Roam Review

Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the Sonos Roam Smart Portable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Speaker in its sleek black variant, and it's safe to say that I was thoroughly impressed. As a tech enthusiast and music lover, I had high expectations, and the Sonos Roam exceeded them in every way. Design & Build Quality (5/5): The Sonos Roam's design is a testament to both elegance and practicality. Its compact form factor and lightweight construction make it incredibly portable, perfect for taking on the go. The minimalist black finish gives it a timeless aesthetic that blends seamlessly with any decor. The build quality is outstanding, and it feels robust enough to withstand the rigors of outdoor adventures. Audio Performance (5/5): What truly sets the Sonos Roam apart is its exceptional audio performance. Despite its small size, this speaker packs a powerful punch. The sound quality is rich, clear, and well-balanced across the entire spectrum. Whether you're listening to your favorite tunes, streaming podcasts, or watching movies, the Roam delivers impressive sound with deep bass, detailed mids, and crisp highs. It's equally impressive at lower volumes for background music or at higher volumes for a room-filling experience. Connectivity & Voice Assistants (5/5): The Roam offers versatile connectivity options. You can easily switch between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modes, ensuring seamless playback regardless of your device or network. The inclusion of both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant adds another layer of convenience. Voice commands work flawlessly, allowing you to control your music, check the weather, or even set reminders without lifting a finger. Battery Life (5/5): Sonos has struck a great balance here. The Roam boasts an impressive battery life that can last through extended listening sessions, making it suitable for all-day use. When not in use, it enters a power-saving mode, ensuring it's ready to go when you are. The included USB-C charging cable makes recharging quick and hassle-free. Water and Dust Resistance (5/5): The IP67 rating means the Roam can withstand immersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes, making it a fantastic companion for poolside parties or outdoor adventures. It's also resistant to dust and dirt, further enhancing its durability. Sonos App Integration (5/5): The Sonos app continues to be a user-friendly and feature-rich platform for controlling your Sonos devices. It's effortless to set up the Roam, group it with other Sonos speakers, and fine-tune the audio settings to your liking. In conclusion, the Sonos Roam Smart Portable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Speaker in black exceeded my expectations in every aspect. Its impressive audio quality, versatile connectivity options, voice assistant integration, and rugged build make it a fantastic choice for both indoor and outdoor use. If you're in the market for a portable speaker that delivers exceptional sound and smart functionality, the Sonos Roam should be at the top of your list. It's a premium speaker that justifies every penny spent.

I got two of this because I thought they would be a good complement for my Sonos ARC. They’re small but that’s OK. The truth is I spend around 30 minutes of my life everyday trying to get them “online”. The battery is supposed to last for 10 hrs, never seen that, they are constantly out of battery. They are constantly offline. I have to reset them almost on a daily basis. Often times one of them is online and works perfect but the other isn’t even if they are close enough to the router. When I take them out of my house it’s almost impossible to connect via Bluetooth. And of course the battery last nothing, even if you turn them off, by the time you try to turn them on again, they would be out of battery. The whole idea of the Sonos wifi connected system is great but it’s just an idea. In reality it’s a struggle.

Hi there. Here are a few tips to help preserve Roam's battery life: make sure you are powering down when not in use (hold power button full 5 seconds), disable any voice assistants when not plugged in, and ensure that you are charging with a 7.5W or higher charger. If you have tried these methods and are still experiencing issues, please reach out to our support team to see how we can help: support.sonos.com. john.milton

The sounds quality is what you expect from a Sonos product. If you haven't experienced that, then the sound is excellent. The problems I have with the Roam are: if I'm watching a show, for example, the sound will just cut out when another episode plays. It's happened if I switched from a show to music, or video on YouTube. The only fix is to turn off the Bluetooth and turn it back on. The power button has a terrible feel - like it's hard to press or stuck. And because the Roam sometimes doesn't make a connection sound or the light doesn't light up you may think the power button isn't working. I've found that if I double-press the power button it will turn on but I still have to manually connect via BT otherwise I'll be waiting some time for a connection. I took it with me on a trip and the Sonos app is useless because it needs to be on the home network to even see the battery percentage of the the Roam. The physical design and sound quality is really good but only when it actually works.

If you’re here to know if the sound is worth the price without taking the features and the Sonos ecosystem into account the answer is: No. But if you’re considering the Roam you have an understanding and appreciation of Sonos and it’s products, and as part of their ecosystem and it’s features is it worth it? The answer is Yes. Pros: It’s full featured considering it’s a small speaker. -Sonos integration. -Smart assistants -AirPlay 2 -Waterproof (not resistant). -Active Sound calibration. -Loud for its size. Cons: -There’s one HUGE flaw, and it’s why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. If you’re in you’re way to a party, the beach, a hike or anywhere and you pick up a Roam on the way, you CANNOT use it right out of the box, not even for Bluetooth, needs to be configured with your system in the app first in your network. This could be probably fixed with software updates down the line, but for now, this speaker out of the box is useless without all the necessary things to set it up the first time, and that’s really upsetting for its price. -No 3.5 mm audio jack (I’m never going to use it or need it but I’m sure there’s people that still feels this is a dealbreaker still in 2021) -Power button is too stiff, lacks “clickyness”, if it wasn’t for the led lights at times you won’t know if your pushing hard enough until you see the indicator. -Sound quality shines at the mid-volume range, with all highs, mids and lows being clear, but the louder you push the volume (75%+), the lows start to fall off and even though the sounds is loud and clear, the trade off is almost not worth it, for music without a lot of lows this wouldn’t be a problem. This was tested with Loudness control Enabled. With all things considered, this is a great speaker for the right buyer, for me, the more than decent audio quality in combination of the features and Sonos integration make more than enough sense and make this a no brainer, and after using it and testing it, I’m happy with this purchase, and will keep this and continue to push it to its limits, will update this review in 6 months to see if it holds up after all.
