The Sonos Roam is a compact yet powerful portable speaker. Its sleek design and durable build make it ideal for on-the-go use. The sound quality is impressive, delivering a rich and balanced audio experience. The ability to connect seamlessly with other Sonos devices adds versatility to your audio setup. While the battery life could be longer, the quick charging feature helps mitigate this concern. Sometimes it can lose connection and need to be reset. Overall, the Sonos Roam is a solid choice for those seeking a portable speaker with excellent sound quality and the convenience of the Sonos ecosystem.

Great Sound - Somewhat Frustrating Setup

So far so good. A couple of things to be aware of. If you have older Sonos products and are using the S1 app, you have to jump through a few hoops to get Roma up and running. You have to completely remove your old system, create the new one and then re-create your old one. That's the bad. Now the good. The features are what you come to expect from Sonos. Once setup playing music was super easy and what I was used to. The sounds quality is good for such a small speaker. I used to use a JBL Flip4 and this has much better sound. I have mostly been using it on my network but connected Bluetooth to see how that works (not obvious how to connect - hold the back button until the light turns blue). Once connected worked great as I would expect a Bluetooth speaker to work. I almost returned it after my frustration with trying to get it to work with my old system but I am glad I did not. I would recommend this for anyone who has an existing Sonos system. I am not sure it is worth the extra cost VS other speakers if you are not already in the Sonos ecosystem.

Great sound in a small package! If you're looking for a very portable speaker that will produce clean and crisp room-filling sound, then the Roam should be first on your list to look at. Sonos has great products and for being their first in the ultra portable market, it is certainly impressive. the design is sleek and simple. it is waterproof, which makes it the perfect pool or beach companion. Very excited to have this speaker to travel with and to take with me on the patio at home.

WAY better than the Bose Soundlink Revolve

Best portable speaker hands down. I’ve had the Bose Soundlink Revolve for a few months but a day with this has shown me that the Bose is not even in the same league. At home it’s a full on Sonos speaker that lives on my wireless charger. But then I can just grab it and take it to the park as well. My only wish was that they would have a sku that fits between the Roam and the Move (both in terms of size and price). That would be the one I’d buy if it existed.

I adore this speaker, I mostly use it in the shower or take it with me on small trips. The speaker is what you'd expect from Sonos, great quality sound. I know some people complain about the speaker doesn't get loud enough, and I do agree the speaker isn't as loud as a UE mega boom or there speakers in its category but its great for smaller spaces such as at a desk, bathroom, at a picnic. A big sell for me is being able to play it at the same time as my other Sonos speakers so I can play a song through the beam, move, and now this through out the house. If you dont own any other Sonos products and are looking to get into the ecosystem this is a great starting point. If you're look for a loud bluetooth speaker that is loud with long battery life Id probably look at the other options instead

5W Power Brick WONT Charge Speakers

I really like the actual speaker - sounds great & I like that it can be used in the shower & by the pool. I have a pair and setting up stereo is pretty easy and they sound even better together. However, as someone who is pretty tech savvy, to spend hours trying to figure out WHY my speakers aren't charging (with old 5W iPhone bricks - ones that most people will have) is kind of ridiculous. SOLUTION; maybe Sonos can either include the necessary power brick required to charge the speaker or inform customers before they buy. Never in my life have I received a product that is not fully functional out of the box, especially at this price. Actually quite mind boggling. Fortunately I had a couple of spare 12W iPad bricks that seem to be charging the speakers.

I really like the form factor and portability. Battery life is good and the Wireless charging is a plus. I just purchased one so cannot test the pairing. Music sounds great. Some podcasts need to have the bass lowered and the highs enhanced to hear voice cleanly. Will look to try speech enhancement next.

Speaker sounds great! Size is great too! All is great for about a 9 months. This was my 2nd one and I really liked the ability to use multiple for true stereo experience. However, just out of warranty and the unit would no longer charge. Tried different charger and charging brick. Nothing worked. Sonos would only only push their monthly subscription plan to extend the warranty. The monthly fee seems excessive given the higher price for their products. Sounds great but buyer beware it may not live beyond the warranty.

We’ve been traveling with the Oontz 3 Ultra for a few years now and always thought it sounded great. We use it in hotel rooms and cruise ship cabins. We have SONOS throughout the house and were hopeful for a small improvement in our travel listening when the Roam was announced. We are quite amazed at how much clear sound with punchy, rattle-free bass this thing puts out. And it’s even smaller than the Oontz and has the same weight. I don’t know how SONOS pulled this off, but the Roam fills a medium size room with very rich sound. The only minor drawbacks are the price and that the control buttons are black against black. But the buttons are logically placed and I quickly learned where they are. The price is steep but still a good value for such quality sound and portability. Definitely 5 stars.

I do not own any other Sonos products, so I use Airplay and play music simultaneously to my Homepod Mini and this devide, but when I move room to room I cannot move the Homepod, so this is the perfect solution! I can leave it in the bathroom or bedroom and play music all around the house. The setup process is pretty smooth and once it works, it just works! Highly recommended to anyone needing a portable Airplay speaker. Bluetooth is also convenient for when I leave home. The battery lasts long enough for the convenience in home, but not when I am away from a charger for many hours at a time.

I did my research on portable speakers in the $100-200 range and tried three of the most highly recommended. This one (Sonos Roam) outshines them all from a sound perspective, especially with the Sonos Trueplay™ feature. (Trueplay™ auto-tunes this speaker per the room acoustics it's in). This is feature NOT available in the Roam SL though. Granted, it's tough to get premiere sound for a speaker this size, but I am really impressed with the sound quality for a speaker like this.

Very high quality sound! The wifi connectivity is very handy as you can connect to the speaker as soon as you get home automatically. My only two caveats that warrant 4 instead of 5 stars are 1) the battery life is not amazing and it drains relatively fast if WiFi is enabled, and 2) the maximum volume could also be a little louder. However this is a very tiny, lightweight, and amazingly portable speaker producing very crisp sound sound!

Great, portable sound in the dry and in the wet

I had been looking for a great sounding speaker that is also portable for some time now and I always had my eye on the Sonos - Roam, which is consistently ranked very high, or highest, in third party reviews of portable, waterproof speakers. I have not been disappointed. The high sound is clear and for it’s size the speaker does some seriously rich low-end base. Maybe the biggest surprise is how I use it in the shower. Since I never had a waterproof speaker before it never occurred to me how much I would enjoy using it in the shower and bath. It reminds a lot of the waterproof radios we used to hang in our showers in the 80s. The Roam works flawlessly in wet conditions and the bathroom acoustics make it sound even better. Finally, I highly recommend buying a third party case (rubber skeleton type—see pic) with a eyelet for a carabiner which allows you to hang the speaker from bags, poles, hooks, etc

The speaker has good sound. Basic setup is fairly easy. However, if you have multiple Sonos devices, setting up group play is more complex. Now my gripe. The speaker is well over cost of other speaker on the market. You would think fir 169.00 they would include power brick. I have iOS ind the power brick does not charge the phone. I am thinking about returning just on principle. Over priced and does not even include what is needed to make speaker operational.

Love this speaker. Great entry level for audiophiles. If you are in the Sonos ecosystem, you will be thrilled to take this speaker on the go with you, or just as an extra where the standard speakers don't normally go. Bluetooth or wifi. It's a fine default speaker for a small or medium space. Sounds great: good highs, warm mids, and solid bass. Best portable speaker I've heard at this price point. Battery life is fine, but not the best. You get what you pay for, and it's worth it.

I wanted to love this and thought I would but I ended up returning it. I'll explain why but first let me list the pros. The sound is good for its size. It's nice that it's water proof. It's easy to old and feels good in your hand. The design looks great. Now the cons. The on-off button is really difficult to master. That sounds crazy but it's true. Sometimes you press it and nothing happens. If you hold it for different lengths of time different things happen (full power off, connect to bluetooth...) but I couldn't find a clear explanation anywhere of this. You'd think an on-off switch would be simpler. I also found that if I didn't full power off (which requires holding the on-off switch for five seconds) the battery would drain completely overnight. So every time I turned it off I had to hold the switch for five seconds, which was annoying. But the biggest problem I had was with connectivity. I'm in an admittedly unusual circumstance in that we set our wi-fi to automatically disconnect at night to keep our kids from spending all of their time online. That meant that each day I'd have to go through a complex process to reconnect the Roam to our network. I tried to set the speaker to be blue-tooth only but that's not possible. It needs to be connected to wi-fi first before you can connect it to bluetooth. And while the sound is good for it's size, it's smaller than it needs to be. I wanted to upgrade from a Bose SoundLink Mini II, which came out way back in 2016. The SoundLink Mini II is slightly bigger but I actually think it sounds noticeably better than the Roam. So in short, I think if you're a Sonos person and plugged in to their system and want to add something portable, maybe this would be good for you. But if you're primarily focused on listening over bluetooth I think there are a lot of options that are better.

The sound is amazing. I bought a pair and I will be returning them however. The battery life is terrible. If I charge them to 100% and don’t use them for a day when I go to use them the battery is at 76%. If I use them for 20 minutes, the battery drops to 55%. There is no way you can play them for 10 hours like it claims. Totally defeats the purpose of being a portable speaker. Also, I have to set them up to stereo pair every time. Once I set it, it should stay paired. I literally have to pick the left and right one each time. This is my first experience with Sonos and I’m pretty bummed. If I wanted to have it plugged in all the time, I’d have bought a Sonia one. The sound quality was great, but for the battery life these are over priced by $100.

The speaker is pretty good. The unit I got did not have the removable base, which would have been better to get. The battery life isn’t great, but it’s ok. If you have a Sonos it’s a budget option. Get the removable base and consider upsizing if you want 4 hours or more of music time.
