Customers are saying

Customers admire the Roam Smart Portable Speaker's amazing sound quality, portability, and surprisingly big sound for its small size. Many appreciate its ease of setup and Bluetooth connectivity, along with its water resistance for use in various settings. However, some users point to inconsistent battery life and occasionally low volume as drawbacks. A few also mention challenges with charging and the power button.

The best use case is for current Sonos owners who want a small speaker to move around the house with. It sounds good next to other speakers and when you balance the volume you can sort of get a stereo effect if you have rooms with other speakers present. I use this mostly in my bedroom and office where each have a single One. This adds to the sound in those rooms. I also use it in the shower, which has made the ritual of showering much more enjoyable and relaxing. Out of home, I use headphones, and it's winter where I am, so I haven't had any outdoor gatherings to "DJ", so not sure about the out-of-home / social experience of using this yet. I do not recommend this if you do not already have, or plan to have additional Sonos speakers at home. the value prop and performance is weak and overpriced as a single speaker. Pros: - size and weight, very portable. lighter and smaller than my JBL - Integration w/ my existing Sonos system - sound quality is pretty good all things considered. it sounds clear and crisp, and the fact that it is weak in the low end isn't bothersome. as long as your expectations are in the right place, you won't be disappointed by how it sounds overall. Cons: Controls, pairing, overall usability, and functionality - Many times activating this speaker with music already playing will crash the system. For example, I have a One playing music, I hold the play button on the Roam and sometimes it works, but other times, it kills all the music and unlinks the other speakers that may be playing at the same time. Then I have to get into the app, reselect the music, and wait for it to pick up. its just not as smooth as the wired speakers. - BATTERY LIFE IS THE PITS. making it not a good speaker to take out on a trip. Bluetooth battery MIGHT be better, but I haven't been able to quantify the difference between the two - wouldn't take it to the beach, the pool, the patio, etc. it's not loud enough by itself and I'd only get 1-2 hours on the battery. - volume when paired with other speakers in home: when you adjust the volume on the speaker, it adjusts for each speaker that is playing. not a bad thing, but there are many times where the other speakers are fine and just this one needs to be adjusted. You have to go into the app to adjust this. - takes too long to get up and running. With the JBL's you play something on your phone, turn on the speaker and it pairs and plays almost immediately. with this, I have to go through MANY more steps AFTER picking music because of fumbling with the Sonos app in addition to fumbling with Sonos/Apple - So far I have been unsuccessful with getting the voice controls to work. one day I may figure this out.

Great speaker. I have multiple Sonos products and have always been impressed with the quality. Therefore, I thought that having the flexibility of being able to pair it with other Sonos speakers I currently have at home and the ability to take it with me while traveling and use Bluetooth would be a great idea. I am very pleased with the purchase.

The Sonos Roam is the best Music and Alexa travel companion. We were always missing playing good sounding music and engaging with Alexa while we were traveling and staying in a hotel. The Sonos Roam does it all and conveniently fits in an overnight bag.

Probably the best in its class

For its size, this is probably the best bluetooth/WiFi speaker on the market. Having voice enabled Alexa/Google is what separates this from everything else. As far as sound, it is really good. You're not going to hear super deep bass because speakers this small can only produce so much (physics), so larger speakers will be able to produce lower frequencies. I haven't compared it side-by-side to a Bose MiniLink II, but would think the Bose would be the best to compare it to as far as sound goes (minilink doesn't have voice assistant). I have an older Klipsch Gig and the Klipsch sounded fairly similar - the Gig has two small tweeters so can produce more accurate stereo, whereas the Roam has only one. However the balance is really good and it can get really loud. It's rated at 10 hours battery life - make sure when turning off you hold the button long enough to hear a deep tone and see the lights turn off. If you let go too quickly, it will make a tone but go in "standby" mode and will drain about 15% overnight after a full charge. If fully turned off it will maintain the last % charge. Another feature that separates this from others is you can buy two to pair them up, for stereo, adding more bass (fuller sound) and even more separation/clarity.

This item works into the Sonos system, and I use it everyday. It is water and stain resistant, and supposedly has smart charging circuitry to combat battery degradation. I am very please with the sound also. Full sound even though it is small.

Hands down the best portable speaker. Sounds awesome across all frequencies. bass is not overpowering letting the med and higher ranges shine through. And best of all it’s WiFi!!!, you don’t have to deal w all the limitations of Bluetooth

I've been looking at a portable smart speaker that can connect to WiFi as well. There's few portable speakers that also work as smart devices, and this is a great speaker. Surprisingly loud and easy to use. Bluetooth is obviously available too if need be. Overall, highly recommend if you're looking for a small yet loud speaker.

I like the portability of the speaker. The battery life could be better. But mostly I’m gonna keep it in the bathroom plugged in. I definitely like that you can group the Sonos speakers with the sound bar while you’re watching the game throughout the house.

The battery life on the Sonos speaker does not last as long as I was hoping it would. For that reason, I would test out other speakers. Other than that great volume and bass.

Overall, it’s a very good speaker bought it for the beach. It did great on vacation. The only downside is that you need Internet and the Sonos ecosystem to connect it and go through all the set up Process. Just make sure all of your Sonos are on the same Wi-Fi network.

While it clearly sounds like a small portable speaker it can deftly fill up a small room or area better than an other speaker of its size I've heard. It has plenty of power, though it's a little weak on the bass side. Keep in mind this is a mono speaker. If you want stereo you'll need two. If you have two you can sync them together. I was hesitant to buy because of the price, but it's hard to find an inexpensive Airplay 2 speaker, so I bit. No regrets a month later. You can get bluetooth-only portable speakers for about 2/3rds less but, at least indoors, they won't sound as good as the Roam does, so priorities, I guess. On WiFi the speaker works with other Sonos speakers or Apple's Airplay 2. It can also stream from Bluetooth sources. The Sonos App is easy to use and is compatilbe with most major streaming services. I can't comment on battery life as I mostly have it plugged it, though Sonos says to expect about 10 hours. It comes with a USB-C cable, but you'll have to supply your own power adapter. You can also charge it with a basic Qi wireless pad -- no need to buy Sonos' stylish matching, but expensive one.

Good Bluetooth/Wi-Fi speaker. Could use a little more bass but it still sounds great. Easy to sync into your Sonos system. Wish the charging base was included like it is for the Move.

Great little speaker. Sterling performance in a compact package. Full charge lasts a day on the beach or by the pool. Easy and light enough to pack for a vacation. Sonos software isn't glitchy and works like a champ. Like it enough to buy another today to pair up for stereo sound by the pool.

Overall, very pleased with the speaker so far but it isn't perfect by any means. The sound is pretty impressive for such a small device; however, it is a bit bass heavy but I get that you do that for times it is going to be outside. The overall sound is very warm. The features are great, having both WIFI and Bluetooth as options and each have worked great. Now the issue, this thing won't stay asleep even after being put in sleep mode. At this time I am having to turn off the device when not in use otherwise you will tear through the battery very quickly. Not a huge thing but also not something you should be having to do all the time.

Loving this speaker . Been taking it out to the pool . Nice to be able to ask Alexa the time & also turn volume up or down. Love the hands free. Also is working great with my other Sonos speakers. Such great sound for such a small speaker . Quality speaker with decent bass.

Great Product and sound for its size. In comparison to similar sized products in the same price range (e.g., Bose) the sound top notch - rich but not boomy, with clear vocals that never got tinny. We used it right away in a fair-sized room (~450 sq ft) and it filled the space nicely without being driven too hard.

Used this a few times now (some indoor and some outdoor). The speaker is small and fairly light and so it's super easy to carry around and to take anywhere. The sound quality is very impressive for its size and does an amazing job of adjusting its acoustics to your surroundings. The speaker setup is super easy (especially if you're already a part of the Sonos ecosystem) and pairing the speaker to Bluetooth is fairly easy. The only issue is that it's not that powerful and so for a large outdoor area, the Roam will only cover a modest area with sound (e.g., used the Roam at a hot tub in a general hotel pool area, and the Roam covered the hot tub area but not much farther than that, which worked for us, but if you're looking for something more, then you'll need to get a 2nd Roam or a different speaker). Indoors, the Roam should do well enough in a small bedroom or bathroom. I'm trying careful to not drop or scratch it, so no comment on its durability.
