Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the excellent sound quality, ease of use, and Dolby Atmos capabilities of the 1155W 7.2-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver. Many also appreciate the receiver's power and straightforward setup process. While some users noted the unit can get warm during operation and that the menu system could be improved, the positive feedback on sound and ease of use outweighs these concerns for most buyers. The price point is also frequently cited as a positive aspect.

I had a Denon that started having issues after less than 6 months of use. I decided to upgrade to this Sony and was blown away by how 'fuller' it sounded with the same set of speakers (Jamo). I like the on screen menus. It's easier to navigate than having to look at the one line display on the receiver and keep fumbling with buttons. It is Airplay and Google cast compatible, which is handy. There are presents for movies and music and they seem to work well. It is multi-zone capable, but I don't use that feature. Also, I think you can either use multi zone or Atmos height. If this is important to you, please check the manual before you buy.

I purchased this receiver as an upgrade to my home theater. I had the Sony-770 that did not offer Dolby atmos. This receiver does the job well. The Wi-Fi capabilities it overs is an added perk. It is also easy to setup.

The Good, sound is incredible, crisp, and accurate. The Bad, if you don't have a degree in musical accoustics you are not going to enjoy setting up this unit. The auto calibration might as well not exist because its horrible. I guess due to the processor is it painfully slow to navigate, sometimes taking more than a minute to populate on the tv screen. I have a 5.2 system, and I struggled for the longest time to get the front 2 tower speakers and the 2 subwoofers to play at the same time. The Ugly, bluetooth struggles to stay connected, the tv has to be on, input has to be coming from the receiver, AND the bluetooth screen has to be showing on the tv or bluetooth won't play. So you can't just walk in and pair to it like a bluetooth speaker. Receiver will also not play bluetooth if anything is playing on the tv unless the hdmi AND optical cable are unplugged. FM tuner on my $20 portable cd player with no antenna is better than on this receiver. And finally the worst of allI mentioned a little in the bad section. If you have your front 2 speakers set as large tower speakers the subwoofers will not play. The receiver sends all the bass to the tower speakers, no matter where you set crossover. The only way to get the receiver to send signal to the subwoofers is to set the large, most likely expensive, tower speakers as small bookshelf speakers in the settings. This will send the highs to the towers and lows to the subwoofers. Basically meaning that your house rattling tower speakers play the birds chirping and not the explosions.

Replaced the 65" bedroom Sony LED (2015 model) with the X90J. Great picture, fabulous remote, but had some issues with running it off of my Pioneer Elite LX101 HT receiver. The Pioneer did not have eArc capability and my research led me to believe that this might play a role in my issues. Replaced the Pioneer with this Sony. Know it is an older model but it has won many awards, the specs seemed terrific and it had eArc. So got it (very hard to find now) and put it in the system. Audio dropouts are gone completely. Works great with the Sony TV remote. Atmos sounds great. Very pleased.
