That said, this follow-on Sony 1155 Watt receiver is improving features like serving up automatic surround sound. This used to be a bit more challenging, but now you attaché a special cable positioned at the ear level where you sit. It results in adjustments to individual speaker volumes to account for speaker locations.

That receiver served me well, and still works great. This new one takes it to the next level. It matches my surround system, and plays so clean. Better dynamics, and even better sound. If you're in the need for an upgrade, THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST OPTION. Also, make sure to download the SongPal app. It is the companion app to this receiver.

This wasn’t clear in instructions. Also, not clear on the music options which should be used and they seem to need to be reset every time the unit is turned on. And can not do it in one step on the remote supplied. Otherwise setup wasn’t too difficult and sound is great.

She’d bought an 85” Bravia 4K HDR tv and received aSony 4K HDR blueray player as a gift. I set her system up and put an HDR movie and the picture quality was not as expected. I deduced the cause was her receiver. So I gifted her this one. Put the same movie and wow what a difference. Great sound, image and integration of the whole system with all the Sony components.

This is my first AVR unit. Difficult to setup

Setting up the unit to connect to my LG television was very difficult. This is my first ABR unit and I was not familiar with some of the terminology and diagrams used in the instructions.I’ve since learned that there is an online Sony help site. Hopefully more information on that site will help me completely set it up. I purchased the Atmos speakers. The sound is awesome!

I've had this Sony STR DN1080 receiver in my system for about a month now and every time I turn it on I'm flabbergasted by the quantity and quality of sound I'm getting from it! I've always had Pioneer Elite series receivers in the past, this receiver supplanted my Pioneer SC81, which is no slouch with its highly touted class D amplifier. First thing I noticed when I powered up the Sony for the first time was the sheer impact and power of amplification. I was surprised to find I don't have to turn up the volume half as much as I did with my Pioneer to get clear and accurate dialogue out of my front channel speaker. Last night I was watching "Django Unchained" and found myself mesmerized by the quality of the sound track coming through my speakers, much better than I ever remember through the Pioneer Elite! I found the initial set up very easy and intuitive as well. I have my set-top cable box running into the Sony receiver then into my Sony XBR65 930E, all via HDMI cable. My Sony tv remote easily linked to the Sony receiver and allows me to control everything through the tv remote. Although I haven't been able to get it to control my set-top box yet, even with the tv's IR blaster plugged in. Perhaps somebody out there can assist me with this? I must be missing a step in the set up? I used to think you had to spend at least a grand or two to get that solid "movie theater" experience in my home. This Sony receiver has me questioning all that, making me wonder if I've been duped all these years by all the marketing hype put out by these high-end manufacturers. All in all, I couldn't be more thrilled with my "thrifty" purchase and would recommend this receiver to anyone out there looking for a solid buy!

This was purchased to make the leap to a new Sony 4k setup. It is a bit slow to respond to commands if you use any remote other than the one supplied with the unit. The video sync feature is not as spot on as the older ES, however the features I like make this a nice upgrade even over an ES unit that cost four times as much ten years ago. It sounds terrific and plays well with all my modern gear that is 4K.
